Yea, well I'm working on that.
We spent most of the weekend working on cleaning out and organizing the garage (which is still a wreck a year after we moved in). DH was hanging shelves and some cabinets we got at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
So DD and I were painting the walls. I roller brushed most of them and DD was cutting in the corners and edges where the roller couldn't reach.
The 10 ft walls.
The ceiling and the corners where DD (who is still shorter than I am for the moment) couldn't reach needed to be cut in as well.
So I got 30 3 ft up on a ladder, hands shaking, legs wobbly, back as tense as a drum and cut in the ceiling.
Apparently my face was whiter than normal because DD offered to go up on the ladder and finish the ceiling for me.
Dammit!
No way in hell was I going to send a 12yo to do a job I was too afraid to do.
Three. Stupid. Feet.
I felt like I could puke at any moment. I got about half of the ceiling cut in before DH came over to give me a hug, noticed how much I was shaking (literally), took my paintbrush away, and told me to go take a break. He ended up finishing up the rest of the ceiling for me.
While we got a lot done, we could've been further along if DH didn't have to finish painting for me. I can't hang cabinets but, damn, you'd like I could at least handle a paint brush.
I guess it's a good thing I don't have to wash windows for a living.
Been trying to overcome this fear my whole life. And really, it's not a totally irrational fear - bad things can happen to you if you fall from a high place.

The only fears I have are fears of strokes or senility. I used to be scared of spiders, and my mother took me to a witch doctor in Russia. She lived in a spooky little hut in the woods, like Baba Yaga. She'd mumble incantations and spit holy water in my face. It was quite traumatic. Now I'm scared of witch doctors.

The only fears I have are fears of strokes Golf is a very serious game to many, but you still have to remember, it is only a game.

As a small kid, I was mesmerized watching melted snow water trickle underneath the sparkling frozen ice on the side of the road during the spring thaw. Not much going on there if you think about it but it was pretty and fascinating watching the trickle of water wend its way underneath the ice.

I actually work on Michigan Avenue, I walk to the stop on Wacker. Love the energy. Prices are crazy expensive which is why I brown bag it most of the time. I mean seriously, $4 for 12 oz. of soup? I can make a whole batch of veggie soup for that much. It's cool to be able to walk to the farmer's markets and festivals during the summer. Chicago architecture is awesome. I work in a historic building and can see several others from different windows on my floor. The walk to the train station gets a bit - wearing (when I don't take the bus). No matter what route I take there is no less than a dozen panhandlers I pass asking for money. Every day. I've seen the guy buying 5ths at the CVS one day, back out with a sign "Hungry need food" the next. I don't like to dismiss them, but know in most cases cash does more harm than good. Don't have an answer here. I live and work downtown. I'm pretty sure I know that panhandler. Along with about a dozen others. Some of them talk to me-as in, Hi, how are you, have a nice day. Not, can you spare some change. It definitely is weary-ing. And $4 for soup is nothing-there is a new salad place that just opened near my work. The cheapest TAKEOUT salad? $10 (plus our awesome 9.25% tax!). And people wonder why I bring my lunch so often!! And people wonder why I don't want to move back to Illinois. It is not cheaper. Just different... and I haven't been there in 30 years.
Illinois - higher sales tax, including Chicago, which I visit more than I visit NYC. (That bridge & tunnel thing. ) Rent is essentially identical to where I am in CNJ now. Like Illinois, I could pay more by being in the nice areas, closer to the city, or I can commute more and move out to the boonies.

I think the spiders are trying to befriend me. One of those little hard-shelled spiders, which I call hoppy spiders, keeps showing up on my bed by my pillow. I have a minor fear of spiders from the year they were everywhere while growing up. I'd walk under a doorway, and one would drop on my shoulder... or head ...
It was an infestation. Only happened the one year. But I still remember!

Bad things can happen if you fall from a low place as well. My XFIL, fell from a chair because he was standing on it in socked feet versus shoes, and fell. FXed something.

For a small fee, I will catch your snakes and spiders, get up on roofs and ladders, and dive into the water if you dropped something. I'll even take your place if you have to go sky-diving. You pay the transportation. Such a deal!!
