TheOtherMe, if the new Pastor asks you for more hours and/or more responsibilities, you could always ask for a raise (if you want to, of course!) I have always had the impression that you liked this job because it's not too demanding but it gives you some extra income. If it becomes more demanding, but pays more, you could either give it up, or decide to give up or reduce your hours at the tax job. Or maybe even decide to do both! Dunno, but I think it's definitely worth asking for more money before you make a decision. This tax season, the CPA firm made it very clear that I had to work full time and I did--when they had the work. CPA firm has already asked if I will prepare returns next year and I said yes. Yes, I will be sorry but I will make more money. I do like the church job. One of the reasons is that I've always been at the church by myself. Now the treasurer comes by on Thursday to sign checks. That isn't a bad thing, but he has messed up my routine of the order in which I do things. He shows up at 9 AM, which is my start time. Checks are not yet cut, mail isn't open, etc. If the new Pastor wants me to do more hours, they will have to make it worth my while. One of the thing would be to make me an employee instead of an independent contractor. From what I am told, the Pastor plans on being at the church. The church where he is now has a full office staff and a full time bookkeeper. If this church gets big enough, that is the job I would like.

Update:
A colleague from my main job was interested in the job I gave up. I gave her name to the woman who runs it and everybody is happy. I'll pass all my info / files on to my colleague.
In exchange (because I do feel guilty about giving up work), I decided to train for the next level at one of the other jobs, if it is offered next spring. It should be: they offer training for the first 3 levels every spring, but they only offer training for additional levels every other spring. I trained for the 4th level last spring, no additional training was offered this year.
If they offer training for the 5th level next year, I'll do it. A lot of people are trained for the first 3 levels, but much fewer for the additional levels. So it's probably a good investment of my time (training is free as long as I agree to work for them afterwards, the work itself is paid. Each additional level is 3 hours of training.)
ETA: I was irritated at them because they were VERY disorganized this year, and they didn't respect the availability I gave them AT ALL, despite my filling it out within hours in Jan. But I know they are growing, the current admin can't keep up, they have a new admin doing scheduling starting in Sept. The work is decently paid, and very local, so it makes more sense for me to stick with them.
I am still waiting to hear from my third side job to see how many days I'll be doing for them this year. I gave them about 75% availability.
But I'm very happy that next year (since I'll be doing more hours at my main job) I'll only have 2 side jobs instead of 3.
Thanks again for helping me figure things out! And doing the additional training seems like a good compromise, since it means investing more time / energy into a job I already do, and spreading myself around less.

So it looks like I traded off one side job for another ... I am having (minor) surgery on Mon. Last Thurs I had an appt with the anaesthetist. I liked her a lot but she started asking me lots of personal questions (nothing off base, but where did I work, do I have kids, how many, what do they do, etc.)
Long story short, at the end of the appt she told me she had taken private English lessons for a while, but her teacher recently retired and travels a lot and no longer has time, so could I please tutor her?!
I'm not sure the scheduling is going to work out long-term, but she was OK with that, so I said yes. We start next Thursday! She is only free on Thursday afternoons. I won't know what time I finish on Thursdays until mid-Sept. (I teach remedial English to incoming / foreign MSc students on Thursday afternoons, and I only know how many groups I have once they are tested in Sept.)
She also asked me to tutor her 8YO son, but I said no to that. I asked a friend whose 16YO son might do it, I'm still waiting for his answer. She lives about 15m from me, but she passes my corner on her way home from work, so for now we will meet at a local cafe when she gets off work.
But I thought that was pretty funny!
