I had to go to Amazon to read about it. I clearly missing how a child's desire to better his future is corrupting her child. I'm sure there's more to the book than that. My 8th grade honors English teacher told us we should read The Stand by Stephen King. That's what I read in 9th grade. My parents had long given up on censoring our reading. I got it from dad's bookshelf. you can find the Spark notes on Google

I tried to read Into The Water last night. I quit torturing myself and even clicked to return it to the library early. It was just too jumbled and I couldn't draw the relations between the sections. I didn't have this much trouble with The Girl on the Train. On vacation I read Gerald's Game by Stephen King. I finished re-reading the third Harry Potter. DH bought me the set of all movies and I'm trying to read the books again before we watch each movie. And unrelated to what I'm reading but looking for recommendations. My cousin is looking for longer/beginning chapter books for her son. Any ideas oped? I've been searching Amazon but no idea.

He doesn't have many yet. She asked for longer books or a beginning chapter book. I'm sure most of his books now are shorter. He's finishing kindergarten next month but just turned 7. She's creating a reading nook for her sons so I'm trying to get some books for that.

We have loved these series - Mercy Watson, Narwhal, Princess in Black (she's really a superhero), Dory Fantasmagory, anything by Mo Willems, Nate the Great, and Ivy and Bean (more girly).

Fall and Rise: The Story of 9/11 arrived yesterday, it was just released on Tuesday. the author is a former Boston Globe Spotlight reporter. there was an excerpt from the book in the Sunday magazine a couple weeks back and I pre-ordered a copy before I even finished the issue.

Inheritance - Dani Shapiro
The author accidentally finds out from one of the DNA tests that her father is not her bio dad. Interesting book about how she eventually deals with it.

Rereading Aru Shah and the end of time so I can remember the plot. The second book came out and I purchased both.
After that it'll be The Luminous Dead. I was intrigued enough by the description on the library website that I bought it too.

Reading Sometimes I Lie. It's middle of the road. I don't find the writing good but it's not offensive and the premise intrigues me. I'm halfway through already because I just want to know how it ends!

All of my library loans for kindle books came through at one time it seemed like. I've finished Nine Perfect Strangers and The Other Woman: A Novel.
I'm working on Look Alive Twenty-Five. The Stephanie Plum series is so predictable but I can't quit reading them. At least I now borrow it from the library instead of spending money.
I'm also reading The Surgeon. That got interrupted by all the library loans coming through.

There is an app called Libby that our library uses and you can suspend your holds and keep moving up the list. I just reactivate them once I am closed to finishing a book and it usually doesn't take more than a day for them to be available.

yup, it's been sitting on my desk for over a week now. it's coming home with me on the train. ETA: I read a little more over lunch. definitely took a kick to the gut as the boarding process was described, including who sat where. terrorists and innocents alike. each passenger introduced had a few lines written about them, like one woman who was just starting to travel again for work after her first few months back from maternity leave. the author moved to the rest of her colleagues in the TJX group, including the SIL of my the Director of Engineering at my first job. I actually met her once, at a party he threw for some reason or another. she seemed like a nice lady. this was the woman whose husband was an air traffic controller at Boston Center, who had the misfortune of working that morning and being completely unable to prevent the death of his wife as he watched everything unfold. I had forgotten that particular detail as time's gone on. I suppose that's exactly what the book is meant to do - prevent the memories from fading, put personalities to the names we've read over the years. but damn. this book is not going to be an easy read, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to read it as quickly as I can just simply being unable to stop reading.

I just finished reading the biography of Alicia Markova. It dragged a bit, but there was a large part where they described Ballet Russe. They need someone for scenery and sets, grab Picasso, Coco Chanel for costumes. It was absolutely amazing.
I’m now reading about a Paris courtesan from the late 1890s, can’t remember the name though.
I read The Secret Garden by Kate Morton it was very nicely wrapped up, like the Lake House. I have that on my kindle to read on vacation. One week of no WiFi, should be interesting. Anyone gone cold turkey from being online for a week?

Tried to read Space Opera and ended up getting frustrated. Either I am tired or I am more dyslexic than I thought because the writing style of the author was REALLY hard for me to follow. I normally do not have this much trouble reading a book. I finished The Mysterious Case of the Exploding Teeth which is a book about all sorts of medical maladies thru history. That was a really interesting book. I never knew there were that many ways a man could screw up his junk doing stupid shit. I also read The Case for Swearing. Since I curse like a sailor this was of interest to me. It's a book that uses psycology, sociology and neurology to show that there is a benefit to swearing and in fact you are not an uncouth ignoramous when you use it. Still working on The Luminous Dead. I like it so far, it's a lot like The Martian in terms of the theme but I don't find myself as on edge about the outcome. Still worth purchasing and will likely read it again at some point. Reading Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets with Gwen. They did the first book in class and she wanted me to do the the rest. The goal was to read them all before PotterFaire in July but we are not going to get remotely close reading them out loud at night. I should be able to get thru the second and maybe into the third though.

I don't know if Overdrive lets you pause the hold? Maybe if I turned off auto check out I'd have more options?
I finished the Stephanie Plum book at lunch.
What Doesn't Kill Her Cape Charade Series is up next. It's been checked out to me but I still need to download it.

Overdrive has a "suspend hold" option. I can't get Libby on my Kindle so it's the one I use. I don't think I've ever needed to suspend one though, all mine take 90 years to arrive because so many people want them and I would never actually get the dang book.

Miss Fortune or the other non romance ones? She cracks me up. She also has other less lighthearted mysteries.

Elevation - Stephen King.
This was a strange book - that's all I can say.
