A get-to-know-your-neighbour "quiz" to get the memory juices flowing and shake off the Monday blahs: - Name a song (title, and artist if applicable) that you didn't mind or even liked at one time, but have since come to detest. What happened?
- Name a song that most people love (to the best of your knowledge) but that you can't stand. Why you can't stand it?
- Name a song that you find extremely offensive. Why do you find it offensive?
- Name a song with lyrics where you'd tell the singer to 'get over it', 'get over yourself', 'get a life', or 'go screw yourself'. Which of the four admonitions would it be?
- Name a song that your spouse or significant other adores but you detest. Does your spouse/SO know?
- Name a song by one of your favourite singers/bands that's so bad, you question why/how they could have possibly produced it. Do other fans share your assessment?
Good luck, music fans. I'll eventually move this to the Music sub-board, but hopefully it will enjoy a bit more exposure here.

I HATE that fucking song. It creeps out of the woodwork in countless movies just to annoy the hell out of me.
I have always hated it. I'm pretty sure I always will.
It makes me stabby.

#1: I detest the song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. I loved it at first. It was catchy and it made me smile. Now...due to over-saturation...I want to slap him everytime I hear it again.

Tiny Tim: Tiptoe Through The Tulips. Odd enough at first to catch the attention of goofy high schoolers (me among others) Upon much replaying I soon found it disgusting and worse, they began to air it on Laugh In. You could not get away from it!!

A get-to-know-your-neighbour "quiz" to get the memory juices flowing and shake off the Monday blahs: 1.Name a song (title, and artist if applicable) that you didn't mind or even liked at one time, but have since come to detest. What happened? Gangnam Style - love the song then read some really nasty things the artist said and sang about the USA. Don't dis my homeland bro. He's dead to me.2.Name a song that most people love (to the best of your knowledge) but that you can't stand. Why you can't stand it? Sound of music - Do, Rae, Mi song. I just want to stick a knife in my ears when it comes on. It's sooo chipper and inane. Blech.3.Name a song that you find extremely offensive. Why do you find it offensive? Cop Killer. Reasons should be obvious.4.Name a song with lyrics where you'd tell the singer to 'get over it', 'get over yourself', 'get a life', or 'go screw yourself'. Which of the four admonitions would it be? Pretty much every break up song written by Taylor Swift. I never get why artists have to write about how the other person screwed up. So yea, get over it.5.Name a song that your spouse or significant other adores but you detest. Does your spouse/SO know? Billy Joel songs. DH worships him as a creative genius but I don't get into him as much. No, DH doesn't know, but it does make for some painful road trips (driver gets to choose the music).6.Name a song by one of your favourite singers/bands that's so bad, you question why/how they could have possibly produced it. Do other fans share your assessment? Nope, all my favorite bands are so awesome they could never produce anything bad. In fact, I have such good taste in music I don't think any fan could disagree with me .

1. Name a song (title, and artist if applicable) that you didn't mind or even liked at one time, but have since come to detest. What happened? will have to think more on this, and edit. 2. Name a song that most people love (to the best of your knowledge) but that you can't stand. Why you can't stand it? anything by James Taylor. I seem to be the only person in Massachusetts that cannot stand this hometown guy's voice. 3. Name a song that you find extremely offensive. Why do you find it offensive? most of the crap I hear on pop radio is pretty offensive, in that they want to be considered musicians. pick up an instrument, learn to play it, and then we'll talk. past that, I'm with The Captain on Cop Killer 4. Name a song with lyrics where you'd tell the singer to 'get over it', 'get over yourself', 'get a life', or 'go screw yourself'. Which of the four admonitions would it be? I'll stay with The Captain and the TS breakup songs. most of the stuff I listen to isn't well known haha. 5. Name a song that your spouse or significant other adores but you detest. Does your spouse/SO know? no SO, so I'm getting off easy on this one. 6. Name a song by one of your favourite singers/bands that's so bad, you question why/how they could have possibly produced it. Do other fans share your assessment? going to plead the 5th here.

My personal hit list: - Name a song (title, and artist if applicable) that you didn't mind or even liked at one time, but have since come to detest. What happened?
"Can You Feel the Love Tonight" (both Elton John and Disney versions) - Not a bad song, but had to listen to it so many times while sister + friends were practicing for the middle school lip sync competition that it now makes my ears bleed.
- Name a song that most people love (to the best of your knowledge) but that you can't stand. Why you can't stand it?
"Girl on Fire" by Alicia Keys - Kill it kill it kill it kill it kill it ...
- Name a song that you find extremely offensive. Why do you find it offensive?
Nothing stands out.
- Name a song with lyrics where you'd tell the singer to 'get over it', 'get over yourself', 'get a life', or 'go screw yourself'. Which of the four admonitions would it be?
"Too Much Love Will Kill You" by Queen - All of the above.
- Name a song that your spouse or significant other adores but you detest. Does your spouse/SO know?
Mrs. Virgil loves "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler. I can't stand it. She's aware.
- Name a song by one of your favourite singers/bands that's so bad, you question why/how they could have possibly produced it. Do other fans share your assessment?
I like many of Will Smith's "hit" singles, but others are extraordinarily bad ("Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" comes to mind as a preeminent example.)

What happened? Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead or Alive. It was overplayed EVERYWHERE.
- Name a song that most people love (to the best of your knowledge) but that you can't stand. Why you can't stand it? I don't know if everyone loves it, but I can't stand Crosby, Stills & Nash's Southern Cross. my step monster had that 1 song on both sides of a cassette. it's the soundtrack of a horrible childhood.
- Name a song that you find extremely offensive. Why do you find it offensive? I don't find music/songs offensive. Music is art & art is a personal preference/freedom thing to me. If I don't like it, I don't buy it.
- Name a song with lyrics where you'd tell the singer to 'get over it', 'get over yourself', 'get a life', or 'go screw yourself'. Which of the four admonitions would it be? Anything by Kanye West.
- Name a song that your spouse or significant other adores but you detest. Does your spouse/SO know? Anything by Toby Keith & yes hubby is aware. but I sat thru a Toby Keith concert and survived.
- Name a song by one of your favourite singers/bands that's so bad, you question why/how they could have possibly produced it. Do other fans share your assessment? Whoever allowed Sheryl Crow to destroy Dy'er M'ker by Zepplin and Sweet Child O'Mine by GnR should be shot.
Good luck, music fans. I'll eventually move this to the Music sub-board, but hopefully it will enjoy a bit more exposure here.

Hate, hate, hate All About the Bass by Meghan Trainor and Womanizer by Britney Spears.
There are many more, but those spring to mind first.

Beethoven's Ninth ....... Really liked it for a long time ..... then I was in a choir that sang it.
Beethoven was deaf and I think screeching sopranos was the only thing he could hear.

Fortunately haven't heard either in a long time, but absolutely cannot stand:
Don't Worry, Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin Kokomo by The Beach Boys
I can't even think about the six categories in the OP. These two monstrosities overwhelm all other thought. Horrible, horrible songs.

#2: Anything by Bob Dylan. Most people I talk to like to listen to his stuff. I just can't stand that voice of his. It hurts my teeth. He's a talented song writer, I guess, but he needs to let someone else sing them.

#3: I can't think of anything that really offends me. I heard some song by....Puddle of Mud (?) in a friend's car the other day. Most of the lyrics consist of "She fuckin' hates me." I swear once in awhile, but continuous and gratuitous use of the word "fuck" is offensive to me. So I guess maybe that one. I hate it that when I hear a person say the word a lot, my brain tells me that person doesn't have a lot of offer and I steer clear. Judgmental and probably not true most of the time but I can't help it.

I have dozens of songs that I hate that everyone seems to love (and artists too.)
On the top of that long list is probably the Titanic song - theme from the movie, heart will go on or whatever it was called (and most everything by Celine Dion.)
My husband loves the final countdown. What a terrible song. I actually have limited tolerance for all the tenors from those late 70's / early 80's bands.

#4: I'd have to agree with whoever said anything by Kanye West. #5: No SO, but my dog knows I'll turn off Taylor Swift and he seems to like her.
#6: "Girl Crush" by Little Big Town. One of my favorite country bands but have no idea where this came from. It sounds like a stalker song. Creepy.

I hate it that when I hear a person say the [F] word a lot, my brain tells me that person doesn't have a lot of offer and I steer clear. Judgmental and probably not true most of the time but I can't help it. I've found it to be quite true most of the time, depending on the topics under consideration. Foul language is a red flag for editorializing. A lot of foul language is a red flag that the speaker (writer) is emotional, uneducated, and/or has a poor command of the English language.

I hate it that when I hear a person say the [F] word a lot, ... I think this is the best use of the word in a song. I remember hearing it in high school and thinking it was dumb until the ending. Made me fall in love with Nilsson's song writing.

Part of that's certainly true for me. I don't swear very much but when I do, it's because I'm emotional - and that emotion is usually anger.

I used it once in a professional setting at a workshop when there was a need to get the group i was a junior member of moving. We were being observed by a workshop facilitator at the time since we weren't getting with the program. I used it, there was stunned silence for a second, then the group got to work. I looked at the facilitator, we both smiled, and she left.
