What Chance Of Being Involved In A terrorist attack?

I will open this up for discussion.  My opinion is "Slim To None".

Why are we so worried over a air craft flight danger, here in the U.S. When we are in far greater danger just leaving our homes or even in our homes?

Robbed, assault, home invasion,  Even getting shot by a police officer are far greater than a terrorist attack on an airplane.

Yet we tolerate the TSA,  WHY??

What would you replace them with? Part of the reason that risk is low is because of the TSA.

Ask the families and friends of the 2,977 victims who died that day what they think.

Actually it would. Those folks would have been flagged and probably be on the no fly list.

Personally I could care less because I don't fly- and I think it is really the responsibility of the airlines to handle their own security. Maybe they pay a fee- I really don't know. But if I do fly I will feel better knowing these people are there scrutinizing everyone and have armed air marshals on random flights.

The TSA- although reactionary- put the kibosh on another incident. Like it or not- the bad guys had to change tactics.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  But hey- maybe the GOP will repeal the TSA and just allow people to carry guns on flights

I'd say chances of another terrorist attack are pretty good.  I'm sure that there are many more attempts that  are thwarted than the one's we hear about and.  

I'm in favor of the TSA and I think we should let ICE get back to doing it's job.

I'm from the 'burbs of Boston.  I knew some of the people who died on 9/11.  I know many, many people who narrowly escaped death or maiming two years ago at the Boston Marathon bombing.  So many others were not as lucky.  

It hits really close to home.  So if I need to be x-rayed and and someone sees a shadow of my girly bits, so be it.  I've been patted down.  I'll take that any day if it keeps people safe.  

And the reason we're worried about air craft flight danger?  History.

Yep.  Because people have absolutely no concept of risk.  Terrorists attacks are scary, so we fear them more than dying in a more mundane way. Even though statistically the odds are enormously greater of dying in dozens of more likely scenarios than a terrorist attack.  There is also a false sense of control in many situations...I won't die in a car crash because I'm a good driver vs. a plane where I can't control what the pilot is doing.  So plane crashes are scarier even though you're far less likely to die that way.

As far as TSA,  It does some stuff to protect us, but it is mostly there for the illusion that we are safe & to give the illusion to terrorists that they will get caught.

Yet his comments were discovered before the aircraft departed. He was removed from the plane.

If you think the TSA is the only group watching passengers in real time, you are naive.

Perhaps you're unfamiliar with thwarted attacks? There have been at least 50, where the loss of life would have been great. Even here in Canada, we've had terrorists planning to blow up passenger trains. It's only through the vigilance of government entities that it didn't happen.

Me, too. I have the same bits as 3.5 billion other people. They're nothing special. Perhaps Oldcoyote is worried that some TSA agent will go home and defile himself at night, thinking of his wrinkly old bits.

Yea I heard that the were 50 aborted attacks,  Let's just say that the details were pretty skinnnnnnny,  

Meaning that you can make all kind of statements if you don't have to back them up.  Just kind of show how they are protecting us.   Sure! 

Of all of these were still (Of course) under investigation, so the details can not be released.

If you don't like dealing with the TSA, then either

1. don't fly commercial
2. Buy your own jet and park it in the general aviation area of your local airport
3. Climb over the airport's perimiter fence and walk to your flight
4. Walk or drive to your destination

TSA isn't going to go away any time soon. So you really need to figure out how you are going to get from Point A to Point B. Complaining about it time and again won't make it disappear.

If I question the action of the police,   Do you think I want no Police protection??

If I Complain about the EPA,  Do you think I want to remove all EPA controls??

My family lost a couple of friends and one child of a friend in the Oklahoma City bombing. That was a nice, home-grown terrorist. Yes, Old Coyote. Lives are lost to terrorists and those lives count - especially to their loved ones. The very nature of terrorism tells us anyone can be a victim at any time. You can't predict things like that.
