Hi, I normally hang out on YM, but I was hoping to get a little advice here. I've got a lot on my plate now, so I will try to keep this brief. I went back to university to get a degree in finance. Back in January, I took the Bloomberg Assessment test (because it was free, so why not). I scored in the 99th percentile, so I received an invitation to take part in an investing contest. Even though I'm completely preoccupied with other more personal matters at the moment (i.e., my mother being in the hospital), I decided to join the contest in the hopes of learning a little more.
My problem is, that I'm normally a long-term index investor, so a 6 month investing challenge is unlike anything I normally even think about. I invested $1200 of the $10,000 allotted carelessly, just to get on the board, and I did little to no research. The 2 stocks involved are doing poorly. (glad it wasn't real $$!) I am under no delusion that I will beat out students that live for this stuff, but I don't want to make my college to look bad.
DH (who likes to dabble in investing) mentioned finding a screen for volume and rising stock price. Do you concur, or have other ideas?
