I really like space telescope pictures. I currently use them for a screen saver background, rotating to a different one every ten minutes. In more local news, our spring peepers are deafening right now with the warm spell. The naked lilies are up a couple of inches also. Spring begins... Ditto. Daffodils are about to bloom. You and me are getting some warm weather quickening the process. Rain though the next five days. After that, still pleasant temps. By the end of February, winter is over for me and most likely for you too. Miserable January though.

Well, I know something here is about to bloom, bud out, etc because the pollen is so thick you can see it in the air and my white car is yellow - but not complaining!!

Yes. I had my only flower a couple years ago but it was outside. They are not pretty and they smell bad. Flies liked it. Normally it just gets leaves and they look cool and so does the stem. I never take it out of the paper bag and plant it until March or later but it is growing already like crazy. I think I will have to get it in soil and water it and hope it does not flower in the house

Isn't the voodoo lily also known as the corpse flower because of the lovely aroma?

When I lived up in New Hampshire, the pine pollen was brutal.

I planted lily today. There are 2 of them really, big and little. I think/hope it's going to be leaf not flower. Tennesseer if you want to try a couple they have baby bulbs in the fall I could send you if you want some. They took a few years to bloom but the plant is really better than the flower

I wouldn't mind hiding and planting one in my insufferable neighbor's yard. He would so deserve it when it is in bloom. Maybe by their kitchen window.

Voodoo lily has a smelly flower. It is in the basement laundry room and still doesn't smell real bad until you get real close It is going to the garage. I think it will stay warm enough to stay alive but can't remember what it does after it flowers. I just want leaves.

Riding the (space shuttle) booster with enhanced sound. You might have to reset the video back to zero seconds.

Neat video. Description of video below:
"Water flowed during a test at Launch Complex 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. About 450,000 gallons of water flowed at high speed from a holding tank through new and modified piping and valves, the flame trench, flame deflector nozzles and mobile launcher interface risers during a wet flow test at Launch Complex 39B.
At peak flow, the water reached about 100 feet in the air above the pad surface. The test was a milestone to confirm and baseline the performance of the Ignition Overpressure/Sound Suppression system. During launch of NASA's Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft, the high-speed water flow will help protect the vehicle from the extreme acoustic and temperature environment during ignition and liftoff."

It's been a while since posting here. Nice shot of the night sky from La Silla Observatory in Chile.

Here Tenn is posting cool videos while I am contemplating the extreme wet outside. More moss than I have ever seen in my decade here, plus all the wonderful mold and weird seaweed like stuff growing in standing puddles around the complex asphalt. And interesting bugs. I will try to accomplish mostly inside things as I work on being well. I don't need my allergies to get worse nor discover yet another unique NJ bug I have never seen.

Thanks for posting the video. I saw a program about this some time ago on PBS. If they ever rerun the doc on Hummingbirds make a note to watch it if you haven't already. I love all things/shows nature related.

All our asclepias tuberosa (orange glory) lost all their leaves right at the time the monarchs would need to feed on them. Now we have new shoots coming up when it's too late. We had four weeks in July with no rain that could of possibly triggered it. We had a long dry spell too but I watered them now and then. Try growing tropical milkweed (asclepias curassavica). It is an annual where we live but once mature, it will bloom through the summer and well into the fall. I also collect the seeds when the pods are ripe and replant them in late spring the following year. They germinate almost to a fault. Additionally, it is said monarch caterpillars only eat the very top leaves of our perenial milkweeds (most tender) while the caterpillars will eat all the leaves, top to bottom (all tender) of the tropical milkweed. Plus it is the prettiest of the milkweeds in my opinion. You can order seeds on-line and they are inexpensive. You only have to buy seeds once. Strip the seeds before the white 'parachutes' begin flying them away.
