Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors, so after finishing all of hers I've had to branch out a bit. Some books are new takes on her characters, there is a mystery series with Jane as a character, some are alternative histories of her life. I've read some books mentioned in Austen's works. I've gotten on a gothic kick and read Dracula, Frankenstein, and found at least one of the other stories written in that competition that spurred Mary Shelley to write Frankenstein; I think it was Vampyre, and was supposed to have influenced Dracula.
I prefer historical fiction to contemporary, but books like Dan Brown's are interesting for all the background. I think I want to learn something, not just read a story.
I have found some interesting books from the Librarian's List: Death Comes to Pemberly, Longbourn, Keturah and Lord Death. That last one is so beautifully written; it is something like a Grimm's fairytale (the older, darker ones), with death personified.
Someday I have to try at least one each of the "popular" authors, since so many patrons ask if I've read X's latest, or what they are like, or who else is similar. Just can't seem to find the time.
I also tend to read the free books on my kindle. Some are classics out of copyright, many are new. Some are worth exactly what I paid, but some are pretty good. Book one of a series is free to get you interested enough to buy the rest, etc. Some of those are things I'd never seek out, but pique my curiosity. One was an xrated spoof of Alice in Wonderland, and it was hilarious.

So, I put the others aside to read And the Mountains Echoed, which I was supposed to read for book club a long time ago! ... Was good. Made me cry, which I'm generally not into, but Khaled Hosseini always does... Anyway, worth the read.

I recently read and loved "You Before Me" by Jojo Moyes (Meghan listed it earlier). I'm looking forward to the film and think Christian Bale is an excellent choice to play Will.
Right now I'm re-reading Daphne Du Maurier's "Rebecca" and next up is "The Keeper of Lost Causes" by Jussi Adler-Olsen.
I'm also a huge Jane Austen fan.

I read The White Hotel by DM Thomas yesterday on my drive back from the Maritimes. I think I might need some therapy now going to be starting The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants again tonight. I need something much lighter than the last one. normally my tastes run toward James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, Tami Hoag, the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. totally agree with the comment about easy beach reading being necessary once in awhile too

These aren't the "latest," but someone had paperbacks for 10 cents each at a garage sale I stopped at on the way to the grocery on Saturday. I picked up three: The Face and The Eyes of Darkness by Dean Koontz plus Marley and Me. I never did read Marley and Me because I didn't like the movie, but I heard later that the book was pretty good.

Didn't read Marley, but loved Art of Racing In the Rain... Both are tear jerkers, but good reading.
