mpl--we were talking 30 yrs from now Ok Phil I finally did it. my projections have always been done at 8% returns (i figure its better to be pessimistic and enjoy the later benefits) I finally ran it out to age 65. WITHOUT changing my contribution % of income but with income increasing 2% year starting in 2010 (its done much better than that) I get to 5mil at age 65/66 For the record I make less than carletal. (more or near same as carl by himself) and put in A LOT lower percentage so sure carl could get to his 5mil--actually fairly easily if he stays the course of putting in 25% he doesn't need to ever change the 25% investment just the base amount the 25% comes from!

mpl--we were talking 30 yrs from now firecalc adjusts to future dollars. So, the 35K is more like 80K in 30 years.

I like to project for 'nominal', that way I'm certain to get a surprise in one direction or the other - lol. Example - when we put man on the Moon, if we had use all pessimistic calculations (we used 'nominal') we could not have gotten there, too heavy. But when using 'nominal' for 1000s of parameters, the variances averaged to near-zero. Same with diversified investments.
