Are you home this weekend? sent from my electronic distraction

No, was home yesterday : did the lawn, yard work, planted some new trees and the guy started installing the backsplash. He should be done today. Home for 3 days back to back next week so looking forward to that. My house is still not showing up on Zillow and it is frustrating. Just want to see with the recent sales if it increased in value...

I have only been called for jury duty once-back around 1995.
While we waited for jury selection, there was one woman with a Tallulah Bankhead voice, accent, and a dry sense of humor, who kept us all entertained in how she could not be selected because she had paid for an ocean cruise which departed in two weeks.
She went on and on, fretting about being selected. While we had sympathy for her reason not to be selected, we continued to laugh at her delivery. All day, groups of potential jurors were called into the court room. At the end of the day, there were about thirty of us left to screen (or hopefully not screen).
Finally, around 6:15 p.m., the rest of us were called into the courtroom. The judge told us only two more jurors were needed and he determined they could be found by screening about ten more candidates. As whomever called out the last ten names, our Tullulah Bankhead's name was called. With her deep, accented voice, Tallulah let out a loud gasp, and said, "Oh God."
Those of us whose's names were not called started laughing. Not knowing why we were laughing, the judge smiled broadly knowing something was up with Tullulah. He started laughing too and then thanked and dismissed the rest of us.
I never found out if Tallulah served as a juror or made her cruise. But she was quite a character who entertained us all day.

First/Last time I got called for Jury Dury, got picked and the friggin trial lasted 3 weeks. It was a civil case but geeze!! I will say it was an eye opener though to me as how trials are run, etc. but this was back in 1970. I am glad I had the experience. I have a feeling young people today think the court room is gonna be like the stupid judge shows on TV today

The trial was mostly on. Finally the case went to the tired jury. While the jury was out deliberating, the two parties decided to settle out of court. I ìmagine that was one pissed off jury.

Well, in my trial there were 3 defendents (two drugstores and drug manufacturer) half way thru the drug stores were no longer defendents. (Jury sat in hallway for 1/2 day and then told only one defendant left - drug manufacturer) We never were told why the drugstores were dropped. I tried to find out if they maybe settled out of court but never did know the reason.

Try not to laugh at the judge who comes to give you the welcome speech and instructions. They always pick the dumbest one!

Only time I've been called to serve, I was escorted out as soon as I got into a jury room, right after the defense found out what I did for a living.
I was working for the courts at the time. It was a civil trial, and I worked on the criminal side, but I guess it did not matter. I was poison, I tell ya!
And when I say I was escorted out, I mean OUT of the freaking building! Under guard, no less!

I had all sorts of juicier alternatives in mind.

Thanks for the laughs. I had to turn my phone off for orientation and explanation of the 1st case. waiting to get called up to the courtroom, where I know I'll get tossed from the case. defendant is a pharma company (not mine) where my friend works, for a product that his department developed. oh, and the judge said this case is expected to go 3 weeks or so. phew! dodged that bullet, I think! sent from my electronic distraction

Where we used to live it was one day or one trial (if you were selected that day). Here you are on call for a month so you can't make plans until you call the night before to see if you have to go in. I never had to go in the month I was on call.

I've only been called once. It was for a federal case. I really wouldn't have minded serving but by the time the jury was to be chosen both my father and my husband were in the hospital in critical care. I called and was excused. Never been called again and I'm now old enough to be exempt.

One day, one trial here in MA too. last time I came, I got picked for a civil trial that went for 3 or 4 days. Opti, comps in that case would be competing listings that would be used as comps for appraisal once a sale is moving forward. sent from my electronic distraction

I never get called for jury duty.
I think people just know I'd be all Henry Fonda up in that bizniz.
And then, when they're all about convinced, I'd go Jack Klugman on their juristic behinds.

I've been called twice. The first time I was selected for a 6 man jury on a DUI case. It went two days and we convicted (PSA: Refusing the breathalyzer and the sobriety tests does not necessarily mean they have no evidence to convict). After we returned our verdict, and got our sentencing instructions, the DA and accused settled on a sentence, which seemed really odd to me that you could settle after the verdict. The second time, all the cases settled and we were dismissed after witnessing an eviction and two weddings. I thought it was pretty smart that the summons said 10am, instead of calling us in at 8 and making us wait until 10 or 10:30 to find out if all the cases were going to settle. We were in and out in less than an hour and didn't have to fight rush hour traffic. I thought it was less smart that they gave us a form to fill out to donate our $6, which I did (for Child Advocacy, as a direct result of zibazinski discussing her experiences as a GAL), and then got my check in the mail anyway.

I've been called for jury duty twice. Once in Houston when my kiddo was about a year old. I was a SAHM, so I was able to be exempted from having to even show up. Second time was here in Georgia. But gotta love small towns because the night before you are to show up, you call a phone # & they let you know if you are needed or not. My juror # was in the 200's & they didn't need that many of us, so again, I got out of having to even show up. Same thing happened to kiddo last year. He got the notice, made the call & they didn't need him to show up.

, which seemed really odd to me that you could settle after the verdict. The case doesn't end there, a series of appeals can be avoided if they agree on the sentencing, ie. settle after the verdict.

My house is still not showing up on Zillow and it is frustrating. Just want to see with the recent sales if it increased in value...
Be patient Carl. It might take a month or two ....... but I wouldn't check it for at least 6 months. Let the dust settle.
I've been called several times for Jury Duty ....... a couple in Los Angeles ....... once in Michigan ...... and twice here in AZ. Last time was about 2 months ago and both times I was required to call the night before. I didn't have to report either time.
I've actually served on one jury in Los Angeles and it was a civil case ......... tenant vs slumlord. Half way through they settled out of court.
No DUI cases ...... I firmly believe anyone CONVICTED of DUI should be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced as such. Judge and all lawyers want me out of there very quickly.
Now I won't be accepted to any jury ...... my grandson in law is on a police force.
