I actually mistakenly referred to a man as a woman yesterday when I was shopping with DS. He DID have a man bun, and sunglasses, which makes it hard to tell from the back.

I did that once to a customer when I was working in the drive-thru. He had turned his head so I couldn’t see his face. Gorgeous long blond hair. I was sooooo embarrassed. My manager thought it was funny. He tried to complain about it, but she told him if he wanted to look like a girl he should expect to be called ma’am.

Something similar here at the office: When a client refers to their SO without using pronouns, I never assume it's the "opposite" gender. That and regardless of age, I never assume someone very young is not yet married. And last names. When taking dictation from a new client, I never assume their spouse has the same last name. Ah, the things I've learned in my old age.

... Something similar here at the office: When a client refers to their SO without using pronouns, I never assume it's the "opposite" gender. ... I recently had an "Ashley" book our facility for a wedding and I did learn the person was the daughter of someone I knew so I could use "she". However, for the longest time there was no mention of a second person who would be involved in the ceremony. It was not until they arrived for a tour that I felt comfortable making any reference to what turned out to be "him".

How I feel on the rare occasion when I actually do quote a health insurance policy.... I felt that way about plain ole math as far back as first grade. And I wound up being a bookkeeper! Go figure.
