NASA picture shows the ocean off the coast of Alaska is as warn as the ocean at the equator,  No wonder the ice is melting in the Arctic.

Wait a minute,  The ocean around Tahiti is colder than that around Alaska.  I'm waiting for the report that Tahiti cruise ship are running into icebergs.

Read the article and watched the video.  I would swear there was no mention of Tahiti anywhere.  Am I wrong or was OldCoyote trying to make a funny?

ETA:  The video does not explain climate change as the thread title states.  It only explains a possible El Nino this summer/fall.

If it wasn't for ocean currents, there would be a much larger temperature gradient between the poles and the equator.

Good morning Tenn,  when you open the link it shows a picture of the earth ocean temperatures. just off the coast of Alaska is a red spot showing warmer temperatures.

The same red as showing at the equator.  I'm sure that the ocean temperatures off Alaska are much colder than that of equator.

To the left of the picture shows very cold ocean temperature in an area that Tahiti would be located. If NASA was trying to convince of climate change in this picture,

 Indeed that there are icebergs in the west Pacific and tropical water just off the coast of Alaska. 


Sorry that my sense of humor is not the same level as yours.

As for why there is a ocean surface warm/'hot' spot in the Gulf of Alaska, that is a result of the building El Nino in the Pacific.  Why there is a red spot, you will have to ask NASA. 

Alaska itself had a warm winter this year and it even affected the 2014 Iditarod Dog Sled race.

Right now, the coastal water temperatures for Alaska are in the 40s.

That was interesting, Tenn. Thanks. I would enjoy a cooler wetter Summer here in our arid area. However, maybe not so good for those in the coastal areas.

So you first read the article and watched the video on May 19th and then decided on May 20th to create a thread about it?  And sometime between that time frame, the video was changed on you?   I know the current video in your opening post is the same one I watched 52 minutes after you started this thread.

Yet the video in your link still has the red area in the Gulf of Alaska you keep going on about in your opening post and comparing it to the (according to you) colder waters in and around French Polynesia and Tahiti.  How is this supposed new video different from the one you allegedly first watched?

The colours in that diagram reflect relative differences in sea level.

Apparently "sea level" is only "sea level" within +/- 45 cm. The white in the image represents a deviation of 10 cm in the sea level.
