Have you tried any products that surprised you at how good they worked? Today, I used the HotHands Foot Warmers. I took them out of their bag, shook them, and put them in the fronts of my shoes. They cost me a buck a pack. Well, my toes were numb. I was wet, cold, and miserable. I was out in an all day storm of rain/sleet/snow. It wasn't long before they warmed up, and my feet were more comfortable. I had on thick socks, and my toes still got warm. It is 8.5 hours later, and these things are still working. The packs I bought are good until 2017. I hope to pick up some more of these gems for a buck a pair.

Therma-Care heat wraps for my back or knee pain. Though they don't last as long as hot pads, they do work.
And less cumbersome than using a heating pad, which I can only use comfortably while lying down.
I also use a product called HotShotz

on the cleaning front mr. clean magic erasers do get up most dirt, stains and spills. We have hard water so I use them for the mineral deposits in my sinks/toilets, to clean the tiny grooves of the fridge handle that always look dirty and anytime I find a sticky spill.
My only tip for buying them is to find the generic brand on Amazon because they are MUCH cheaper. Search for "Melamine Foam" - they're roughly $1/ea for the Mr. Clean Brand and you can get them for 25-50 cents each for generic. Same product, doesn't wear down faster at all.

I remember when Teflon skillets first came out. My grandpa bought one, and liked it so much that he went back to the store, and got all his DIL's one. They were light yellow with a shiny black handle. My mother still had that same skillet over 40 years later.

Facial cleansing oil. I had severe acne as a teen and still have oily skin, now with rosacea thrown in. It works awesome, leaves my skin soft, and I don't have to use makeup remover unless I put on tons of mascara and eyeliner. What's the cleanser?

I have to third the magic erasers- so glad start passed on the Amazon tip!
I have been shocked about the really good job that some of the dollar store and generic products and natural cleaners do. I guess part of my shock just comes in the fact that as an adult I have been able to make my own discoveries, but also my house is cleaner than my parents was, so everything doesn't have to be cleaned with bleach or whatever heavy duty cleaner you can find.

As a kid, maybe 8 years old, my family was at the state fair. My sisters and I watched the Ginsu man's full demo like 4 times - we were in awe. We dragged mom and dad over to see "the coolest knife in the world! It even cuts leather!!" Mom and dad are intelligent, frugal people. There was no way they were going to buy some hokey Ginsu knife at the fair. But, they were big into teaching us life lessons about decision making. So, they talked to us about how some things seem better than they really are but you don't know that until you've wasted your money on them. Determined to show us a real-life example of this, they purchased the knife.... I'm 45 years old now, and it's still my mom's favorite knife.

bsb - I get them at Dollar Tree And I give DD one to scrub the walls in the bathtub while she's in there. For some reason she thinks it's fun - who am I to argue? The windshield cleaners that were an as-seen-on-TV item a few years back actually work really well. The handle helps get all the corners of the windshield without having to twist my arm in weird ways. They now have those at the dollar store too!! I like to keep one in the car to wipe off the fog in the morning if needed.

pat- I also poo-pooed heated seats until Mom bought an SUV with leather seats! Yes, I grew up in the era of standard vinyl... cloth was a luxury, but I guess I got un-used to cold seats!

Santoku knife. I ditched my traditional chef's knife for this. Love it. And, even bought a smaller partuku knife.

They were hawking the knives at a festival and the price seemed good (buy one get two). It has always been my favorite knife and it is still fantastic 30 years later. I finally looked it up and the one I got seems to be a Sabatier. I bought more on ebay and they were expensive, but now I finally have a knife set that works well and is comfortable in my hand.
