I have joined myfitnesspal- I am mizbear1976 there
worked out with the Wii for 45 minutes and was sweating! What game on the Wii do you workout with? We have the dance one, and some sport package.

I like that idea, mizbear. I've posted this elsewhere on the boards earlier today, but today was spectacularly craptastic. put me in a sour enough mood that I've decided to stay in tonight and flip back and forth between the Bruins game and the Three Stooges marathon (for old time's sake - I used to watch it with my dad every year until I fell asleep as a kid). I've already finished my first adult raspberry lime rickey - a Stoli razz & soda w/lime - and there will be more before I call it a night. as I was pulling out of my complex to go run errands this AM, I felt and heard something in my clutch just POP! and the transmission disengaged from gear. I was able to steer the drift into the parking lot of the complex next to mine, coming to a stop across two parking spaces. got out, dropped to the ground and saw that nothing was hanging from my car (good), got back in to mess with the gear shift....discovered that I could put it in gear and take my foot off the clutch pedal and the car didn't stall (*really* not good). I had a couple of the maintenance guys push my dear Rocket around the lot a bit to straighten her out into a single parking space and I walked back home to make some calls. 1) I've got a rental car until (at least) next Tuesday. $140 makes me the not-so-proud operator of a white Fiat 500 for that time. I already hate it. 2) the Rocket was towed by flatbed to a Honda shop downtown. I have a 10-yo Acura, so they should be able to tell me pretty quickly what the problem is. 3) my to-do list for this week already included making a couple calls to have a new catalytic converter and new tires put on.....now what? the Rocket is a 2004 with over 160k miles, but I'm not ready to give her up just yet.

My stupid food and ankle are still hurting. I've been taking it easy, but it isn't really changing. So, I'm just going to get back to my 10k+ steps and elliptical and hope it works itself out. Let's rock 2014!

I was planning to give myself a day off or just do a swim, as a reward for surviving spinning class, but I ended up doing 30 minutes on the elliptical.

Hi all. In addition to finally tackling my debt this new year, another one of my goals is to lose 35 pounds. This won't put me at a weight I should be at (still too heavy), but that's not my purpose quite yet.
It would average out to less than 3 lbs a month, which seems completely do-able. With the long timeline (a whole year!), I'm really hoping I can cultivate some healthy habits and lifestyle changes that will stay with me.
I will weigh myself in tonight to get a starting number and then I start fresh with no excuses anymore! Everybody else's motivation in this thread has been awesome to see.
Really looking forward to an awesome 2014 with everyone!

Alright, I am officially kicking off 2014 weight-loss for me.
Weigh in this morning, managed to make my goal of "maintaining" my 1-week-pre-holiday weight over the holidays! It's a Christmas miracle! That means I'm up 2 lbs from where I was the day before Christmas, but whatever. Given how hard I tried to be good with food and how little I succeeded, I will take it!
Kicking off 2014 - 15-20 lbs to lose before the end of Feb. (Depending on how much weight DH loses - we need to lose 70 lbs between us to qualify for the carribean reward.) Plan is: No alcohol. At all. Exercise 5x/week. Follow diet as have been, and track daily in LoseIt app.
Happy new year and hope everyone is out there kicking some butt!

I read yesterday that walking in loose snow burns 3 times the calories as walking on a treadmill. It has made me hate it a little less. I got in 2 workouts yesterday- Elliptical machine in the AM and then I did a Leslie Sansone "walk away the pounds" video and added dumbells. It was cheesy, but it did the job. I also trompled through the snow for about a mile with my dog... that has to count for something!

I also trompled through the snow for about a mile with my dog... that has to count for something! I'd believe it. so does the addition of ski boots when trekking back and forth between your car and the base lodge, like I had to do a couple times on Christmas when my credit card fell out of my pocket somewhere on the trails. I had my challenge initial weigh-in this AM, and I was right - I put on 4lbs over the time I've been off work. not ideal, but easily fixable! I'm enjoying a snow day at home today, my rental car was sliding all over the road when I went out to pick up some ground turkey for some chili. not going anywhere until it's time to go pick up my Rocket later today. so happy it turned out to be an easy fix! so - turkey and black bean chili is currently simmering on the stove. I used 93/7 ground turkey and drained most of the fat out. I only use low salt beans, and no salt added diced tomatoes. no idea what a serving works out to, but it can't be all that bad. this should last me through the weekend. oh, and as long as I get the Rocket back tonight, I'll be skiing tomorrow. woot!

I would rather walk in snow than on semi-shoveled, sanded/iced, slippery sidewalks. Burning more calories = bonus points

Does shoveling snow count for anything. I was out twice yesterday and 3 times already today. I am trying to convince myself to go out again today.

Shoveling counts a lot! Like any exercise it depends on your weight, fitness level etc., but just as an example I weigh 132 and according to online calculators 20 minutes of moderate shoveling would burn 110 calories. So keep that in mind when you have to go shovel AGAIN (and you probably will).

shoveling absolutely counts! it's cardio at the very least, and if you get that dense, wet stuff it is a serious weight workout for a decent-sized driveway.

Shoveling counts! it can be really hard work, that's why people drop dead doing it!
and I agree... i'd rather walk through a few inches of snow than half-ass shoveled slippery messes!

Bsbound mentioned this thread on the kids thread, so I'm popping over to say hi and join in. I have an 18-month old DS, and I definitely still have some baby weight to lose. I want to focus on getting more exercise in and on eating more fruits and veggies, as well as cutting down on sweets (my biggest weakness). DH mentioned yesterday that he'd like to lose some weight, so hopefully we can encourage each other.
I'm about 5'-6", and weigh 196 lbs. I don't have a specific weight goal in mind (I've never been thin - I was around 165 at my July 2010 wedding, which is probably about what I weighed in high school), but would like to go down 1-2 dress sizes and have my clothes fit better.

I do not mind walking thru snow. Just afraid I would be unable to drive thru the snow when I have to go to work tomorrow. The snow is slowing but the wind is blowing and the drift in front of the garage may come back.

TCU - copying from the other thread: "Bsbound - I may need to check the fitness thread out. I'd like to lose weight to get back down to pre-baby weight, so I have a couple of fitness goals this year. I think I'll have better success with focusing on doing more physical activity and eating more fruits and veggies than by focusing on losing weight. We'll see." People here measure in lots of ways. Normally I'm not so focused on pounds except I'm being incented according to pounds, so...

Hi, I am also coming in from the kids thread via bsbound! I have baby and pre-baby weight to lose. I'm about 5'8" and used to be around 160-165. It seems so far away because I am currently at 205. To start, I am doing Weight Watchers online to help me with my food choices. I also need to cut back on sweets (and iced coffees!). I also hope to start working out at home soon. I think coming here will help me stay on track during the day!
Maybe I'll track my weight here and eventually my exercise...?

Hi missk82, welcome! Folks here pretty much do what works for them, and we're really supportive. Feel free to share your goals, bring up challenges you run into, whatever we can do to help.

I am glad housework burns calories!
So I have not gotten back on the ball yet- as I said, I told Mr. Bear I was getting back on the bandwagon Saturday, but depending on the weather I may start sooner, since we are slated for some snow and Momma Bear friend thought she was going to get to drive- I told Momma Bear if she was driving- I was staying home! (I also said that the first remark about my driving they would either be walking or we were turning around)
Trying to make the switch to tea from hot chocolate and coffee. I drink hot tea a lot anyway- but I can drink it without anything in it
Making 6 tons of chili next week- zucchini, lentil, bean....
Can't wait until I start seeing results....
Can't wait to see what Mr. Bear thinks of the results....

Welcome new friends! Glad you're here!
I weighed in for my weight loss challenge thing this morning. 187.8! I haven't weighed this much since I was almost 9 months pregnant 8 years ago. I'm 5'5" and would love to be around 140-145. It's a big goal and I know I can't do it all at once, so I just have to remember that. I remember thinking it would be so easy to lose weight, and then realizing that it's not so easy... anyway, I guess I'll do a tagline like I do on the Midwest thread...
