Hi all, I completely slacked off at the end of last year, so I'm going to try it again. I'm going to go simple, and just track what I'm loosely terming our "moving fund," since EF, Roth, retirement, etc. are all automatic and on track.
megaptera 1/4/2014 $0.00 [Goal: $15,000]
Have a great year, everyone! Hi Mega! Welcome back! May I ask? What is going to be your game plan to save what you need for your moving fund? For example, $1,250 per month for the year? $1,000 per month and $3,000 tax refund? Paychecks from a second job? It may help you stay strong throughout this year if you decide on a strategy and post it here for accountability. Hi S4N, thanks for the reply! A chunk of it will come from the tax refund, some will come from a part-job I recently picked up, and some will come from DH not needing to purchase a ton of uber-expensive bicycling gear for a while (hopefully).

I don't want to work my day off tomorrow but if they call me, I will force myself to go in to work. It would be time and a half but miserable the whole live long day. on second thought, I'll stay here, and keep the heat on 56.

Ombud- My goal should be to save $16,750, not $12,250.
Hubs got his first paycheck last week, but we ended up buying a new vacuum cleaner when we realized the old one wasn't picking up our dog's fur anymore... so we ended up getting a dyson and that took most of what I was hoping would be our initial plunge to start our savings for 2014.
But, I get paid on Friday and we have $275 budgetted to go straight to savings so I should be able to put in my first update soon!
----- 2013 Roth IRA (Hubs) goal: $5,500.00 (Starting: $0.00) 2014 Roth IRA (mine) goal: $5,500.00 (Starting: $0.00) 2014 Roth IRA (Hubs) goal: $5,500.00 (Starting: $0.00) Emergency Fund goal: $250.00 more (Starting: $12,250.00)
Ambellamy: 1/1/14 $0.00 (1/1/14 $0, WIRS1)

Wait a minute, grits .... are you saying you're only heating to 56°? Well, my bones started aching, so I put it on 58 last night. For this part of the country, peeps would get your head examined for putting it that low. This morning, I turned it up to 60. I am getting too old for 56. It is a good thing I turned it down to 58 last night. I put the flannel sheets on the bed. Combing them with all the other covers made it nice and toasty. Ombud, if the heat runs too much, the air gets too dry for me. I get sick from lack of moisture. I am a swamp creature.

Well, I'm going to try and aim for $7500 over several catergories for my 2014 goal. I'm hoping to make a job change mid-year, so I'm trying not to be too ambitious with my goals at the moment...
Rocky Mtn Saver 01/07/14 $700 (01/01/14 = $0; Goal = $7,500)
If/when I get some time, I'll get a table up!

I decided tonight, after talking to my support "crew", that I am going to move my quit (my job) date from June to March. That means my projections for savings goals may not be met. Regardless I am going to keep my goal the same because it is early in the year and you never know what will happen.

I would like to restart for 2014 and my savings goals are: 2014 Savings Plan | Goal | Current | Remaining | % of Goal | EF Savings | $500.00 | $0.00 | $500.00 | 0.00% | Fathers Day Trip JUNE | $1,500.00 | $0.00 | $1,500.00 | 0.00% | What Nots JULY | $1,800.00 | $0.00 | $1,300.00 | 0.00% | Christmas 2014 | $1,200.00 | $0.00 | $1,700.00 | 0.00% | Total | $5,000.00 | $0.00 | $5,000.00 | 0.00% | |
HappyCat: 1/8/14 $0.00 (1/08/14 $0.00) I have a decent EF so I am going to increase that by only $500 and work on other goals this year. My father passed away on Dec 29 and my entire family is planning to get together at his Florida home for a Celebration of Life over Father's Day Weekend. This will involve travel for myself and my two daughters - mostly airfare. This dollar amount may change once I get more info on the air fare and lodging. Christmas 2014 - 'Nuff said What Nots: My sister is moving over seas for two years and she leaves in July. We have two small trips (withing driving range) planned and I've budgeted "play money" in this category. Also, Mr. Cat and I are going to Switzerland (air fares already paid) in July so a small amount of this is set aside for that trip as well. My 2 largest goals will be met and spent by July and I may add more goals or add to the EF at that point. Happy Saving in 2014, Savers!

ambellamy, which Dyson did you get?
I've been looking at them because the bags are ridiculously expensive. (Like close to $20 for five disposable cloth-like bags -- don't ever get a Miele!)
But I'm not sure how long my old dog will stick around and I hate to spend the money just for that. I'm trying to do a cost/benefit analysis. How big is your dog and how long/thick is its coat? I have a Lab, and her shedding season is basically January 1 to December 31. Sometimes it's light shedding, and other times it's full-blown non-stop shedding.
In the meantime I'm looking for less expensive vacuum cleaner bags online.

In the meantime I'm looking for less expensive vacuum cleaner bags online. We got the Dyson DC41 PET Vac... for $525 after tax (that was after the $90 rebate) at COSCTO and it came with $120 of extra parts and attachments... I'm in heaven with the sucker. I just vacuumed last night and i'm wow'd by how much it sucks up and how clean my carpet looks afterward. It feels clean when I walk on it. You can also go from carpet to hard floor in a breeze so I was also able to go from the carpet to just "sweeping and sucking" up my kitchen floor and mats without stopping so it ended up saving me time tool. All the parts are washable, and it doesn't have a belt, and we got a 5 year warantee with it. they say to wash the filters every 3 months, but we will probably do every month just to be on the safe side. I plan on using one of the attachements to dust my bookshelves and other stuff next week. Roxy is a 21 lb Austrailin Shephard mix (we think she's also part terrier, but her coat is Aussie) . It gets her long hair no problem...

We invested in a Dyson, too, and are very happy with it. I think we've had it for... 5? years. It's just the standard model, from 5+ years ago. We have a 70+ pound Bernese Mountain Dog who sheds all year and it works GREAT. I don't think we've ever cleaned out the filter(s). I should probably look up how to do that. Anyway... if you're considering investing in one, I'd recommend it.

Serious this time, 1/3/2014, $2,083 (1/1/2014, $0, goal $51,258) Here's the first post, more than a week late. Tracking my savings shows me why I'm living on so little money. It's all going to savings and debt repayment.

nalto 1/14/14 $1,961.06 (1/14/14 $1,961.06 / Goal $20,000)
So, for this year, I've decided to lump all of my savings goals into one (cash savings, Roth, investing, etc.) As for last years goals, well, you know the saying..."the best laid schemes o' mice an' men..."
Here's to a fresh start!

More news on the Dyson purchase...
There are 2 things I don't like about it right now. I don't like that I have to take the WHOLE cord off if I want to use an attachment real quick (it doesn't have one of those hooks you turn to take the cord off the machine in 2 seconds like my old one did and to get to any of the attachements, you have to unwind the whole cord.)
The other thing is, I'm not thrilled with all those bonus attachments that came with it, because I dislike the attachment function as a whole right now. They might claim its huge reach, but its constantly trying to contract back into the vacuum and I feel like its a fight to use it... and all the attachments have this little red felt on it that my dogs hair keeps getting stuck in when I try and vacuum the couch... Hopefully it gets better as I get more practice with the machine. I'm gonna try again tonight to use the attachments better.
The suction is great if I can get the attachments to like me.... and its excellent at cleaning the floors.

Do we start over now that 2014 is here or do we keep going with our past goals if we didn't reach them?

Do we start over now that 2014 is here or do we keep going with our past goals if we didn't reach them? Most people start over, but it's entirely up to you if you want to just continue onward and upward!
