"..good one " OK my opinion , but...
I don't know if any one listened or watched POTUS press conference today, I did, came away with a few things. For those who don't care for him, what he has to say, thus stays away from these outings, to bad. Not that you have to take what he says as gospel and take to the bank, but he explained what the process is in dealing with the budget, a lesson in civics, no not a lecture, talking down to, just by listening, you just understand better. What and why he cut and added and why he held off on the entitlements and explained clearly, what the press wants, public, a finish in one day, not happening and shouldn't. Things take time, from the happening on Egypt, 18 days and counting. Press, media, want done and over in a week, if that long. Same with the budget. there will be posturing, marshaling of the troops, both sides , but hopefully, a good , calm negotiating, dealing on all aspects, including entitlements, explained why some cuts, as a activist interested in those programs ,he cut, reason for perceived increases, but the tweaking of, example , Pell grants, increased in past ,now to protect so don't have to be stopped, unfordable, tweaking, no longer covering summer school classes. Same with the Bi Partison commission, gave a basis to work from, agreed with some items, disagree with some, wanted more done on some but important thing was it put all on table, glad to see 11 signed after but know has to go to those who didn't, exampl head of the House, find out wha he disagreed with same as his own party members who didn't support it, not a failure, some place to start from. makes sense to this neophyte. If there is a reprint on the web, newspaper, suggest, take a moment and read. Hey, for those who really don't like the man personally, won't have to hear his voice, though he does sound good, but the press conference, was long, he answered many questions on all topics, some pointed ones you might want to hear his explanation and didn't run away from anything.

I just hope somebody reads it before voting this time. I wonder if many are aware that starting in 2013 there will be a a 3.8 % sales tax on the sale? 3.8% may not sem like much but on a $400,000 home that is about 15 grand tax you will pay for selling. Why is this in a health care bill?

Everybody needs to take a minute or three and learn the truth about this 3.8% (capital gains) tax instead of continuing the myth. www.realtor.org/small_business_health_coverage.nsf/pages/small_business_health_coverage?opendocument

I did not view it. I am at work. Some of us are productive and tax paying citizens. There are some of us still around.

Seems though they rammed through a multi-trillion healthcare take over rather quickly.

My thread was not on the merits of the Bill..another thread possible. My thread deals with the press conference..he was asked many, many questions..not a confusing out of control conference , calling on reporters think all angles/leanings by media were hit, yes Fox too and he was answering and explaining... All I am suggesting..read the transcripts, am sure it will be published, or the conference rebroadcast. The main thing is this is a beginning, not being finished in a day, lots of work both sides, some of what you brought up, there was reasons given, You might not like em but there was a reason for certain cuts, even the heating one, I'm not going to explain here to you...read or watch if rebroadcast. It isn't a blame thing, it's how your government and mine work or should. Just want to sound off...ok, so don't watch, read..just sound off..to me unproductive. My thread just a suggestion and my impresson and yes as a middle to the left , initially had questions of why not , for example, no dealing with entitlements , now I know why and they are to be dealt with and considered and most probably , definitly hit in the final bill. So go emotional if you want or better in my estimation, go rational and be informed, your call.

I'm not too interested in what the President has to say, or members of Congress... I want to see action, and will reserve my judgement for when they actually do something.

Disagree, the statements , what they say lets you have a idea of where they are coming from. This budget will take time and have to be worked on by both sides. Expect posturing, the marshaling of the troops by both sides . What makes this budget so important over other years? Gor the first time in a long time , there is talk about entitlements from both sides , a consesus, have to be visited. That WILL affect everyone her , if they are a citizen. Your lucky Burns, your left out, lucky you. Personally, I believe it will affect me, as a Senior, expect Medicare to be visited and while some tweaking may be set for the future, expect some to hit me right now,{Ok with in a fiscal year} You younger one's, the Medicare tweaking will also affect you too. Not today but when you get there and guaranteed two things, you won't get there, and it doesn't matter, {sorry guys/gals} or when you do, Medicare will be affected and possible SS. You may find your self, if wanting to get full benefits, working longer, and on early retiring , getting less. So this is a important budget. Don't want to read or hear about it? Why are you on these boards? Oh I know. "Obama sucks because I said so "

Concerning the new 3.8% tax on investment income over 200,000 single/250,000 married (when combined with regular income);
This new tax was never introduced, discussed or reviewed until just hours before the final debate on the massive health care legislation began. That legislation was enacted on March 23, 2010, more than a year after the health care debate began. This new tax was put forward after Congress was unable to agree on changes to current law that were sufficient to pay for the proposed changes to the Medicare program and increased subsidies to individuals and businesses. The new tax raises more than $210 billion (over 10 years), representing more than half of the total new expenditures in the health care reform package. NAR expressed its strongest possible objections, but the legislation passed on a largely party line vote.
People with fairly high income of say a combined total of 200,000 and total investment income of a relatively high amount, say 150,000, will owe an extra 3,300 in taxes. This is not an insignificant amount. No tax increase at this point is. This will not work. Implosion is immanent. Take Mr. fiscan's advice, please.

Do you have some kind of buzzer connected to your pc that goes off when somebody responds to your posts or on one of your threads?

It seems to have gone beyond that simple feature Mr. billisonboard. Perhaps it is just a case of desperation.

Florida yankee: My bad it says the tax will be assesed on those with $200, 000 to 250,000 agi. It's actually a pretty complicated tax to understand if you've never really dealt with taxes. It'll cause a few headaches for those in excess of the $200/250k AGI. Because politicians are always true to their word..... Is this the new tactic for you on the (middle to far) left...putting words in "our" mouths to try and shame "us" before "we" even reply? I never assumed it would work. Similar to the "luxury tax" a while back....some of the "rich" will suck it up and pay the tax...some will find a loophole...some will simply simply hold their investments and wait it out. Like all failed tax schemes, this one will end up getting repealed. When you go in to personal debt, is it because you don't make enough or do you spend too much for the income you have? Typical thought pattern of those on the left. Throw your kid under the bus so they don't have to take away any of your precious entitlement programs. Nice dezi.......

I know, I know Florida , me bad...I did mention he will be pissed didn't I? Yeah...you did. If it were me, I'd be more pissed off that my "old man" would support new taxes that redistribute more of my wealth to support unaffordable entitlements created by his generation.

....but quit your whining and pay your taxes because I deserve your money more than you and your family does." Gee...thanks Dad.... If you consider him a political black sheep, he must be one hell of a conservative guy. I like him already!

Some of my tax dollars are medical "insurance" for my aged parents. Knowing that I will not be forced into bankruptcy to pay for their medical bills is a comfort.

Then we sometimes get into , " let them eat cake " discussions...
