www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/the_greatest_food_human_history_5bikMtD5ZJ50x1KMCyGfTJWhen I saw this, I was at first delighted, and then wildly disappointed that I wasn't clever (or well known) enough to have written it myself. I have worked out 7 or 8 foods that are incredibly nutritious for very little money- and this one is quite literally on the top of my list. I don't eat the whole bun- I try not to eat any of it, but the bun is good, too. I don't eat it alot- but when I do, I get an unsweet tea with it- no fries.

BTW- all you have to do is say "Hold the ketchup and mustard, add lettuce, and throw Big Mac sauce on it, please" and they'll up charge you just a bit- and you'll essentially have a $1.50 Big Mac-- and it'll be FRESH made because anytime they honor a special request, they'll just make a new one.

it'll be "fresh" made, but it will still put in a valiant effort toward meeting the Twinkie after the nuclear Holocaust. there's an anecdote floating around my office, and knowing the colleague in question it really doesn't surprise me. a group of colleagues met up around 5AM to catch a train to NYC from the Boston area, for a day trip. all the colleagues travelled together, and they did not stop for fast food in their travels. lunch was brought in, and they returned to the train station after office hours to return back to the Boston area. on the drive back to the office from the train station, the driver reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a McD's cheeseburger and started eating. the rest of the passengers had reactions ranging from surprise to astonishment to disgust, and none of them can come up with where this cheeseburger got into the driver's coat pocket. apparently it was still fit for consumption. and another - a science teacher at my sis's school has a corkboard in her classroom where she posts various science trivia and cool current stuff. she's got a small bag of McD's french fries that have been tacked up there for almost 2 years now, if my math is right. those fries look about the same as the ones I got over the weekend. last I heard, the bag on the corkboard has been losing some of its contents to another teacher who keeps snacking.

Yeah- I've seen the experiments (live, not on Youtube) and I'm not recommending McD's for optimum health, but in my busy times I have limited choices-- sometimes the fast food places are the first and ONLY places up and running, so aside from what I'm able to pack (there's a LOT of shelf-stable food these days) myself, if I get the craving for the HOT and greasy- the McD's is about the best I can do.

Considering the fact that McD's doesn't even use real cheese (just that plastic crap), I wouldn't be surprised if their "beef" patties are some chemical blend of goodness too - along with their fries. Probably the only thing healthy on a McDouble is the ketchup - and 'maybe' the pickle. They should re-name their burger the McPreservative.
I agree with Chiver - the McD (anything) will survive a nuclear holocaust right alongside the Hostess Twinkie.

It ain't health food, but I don't fear it. I find food-o-phobes kind of amusing. The fact is my grandparents had ONE fear of food- they wanted it all well-done because they didn't want to die from parasites or bacteria in their food. There are worse things to fear than food additives, or 'processed' food (which is kind of like "assault" weapons- if I slice and dice it-- it's been "processed". And btw- the everlasting burger / happy meal is likely the result of the food losing moisture quickly and dehydrating before mold can grow. I'm a claims adjuster- so I know mold spores are everywhere- but they need an environment to grow in, and they need moisture. Ideal conditions are dark, still air, and moisture. I think the small size burgers, combined with the heat result in dehydration before significant mold growth happens. I don't think they're dipped in preservatives.

Subway is the single nastiest food establishment on the planet- IN MY OPINION. Their food tastes TERRIBLE. Try a FireHouse Sub, or Jersey Mike's-- really, just go to Publix and get a sub. Anyplace other than Subway and you're bound to find better food.

I gotta work with what's here. in MY opinion, it's really hard to screw up smearing avocado on a (pretty tasty) sub roll and filling it up with fresh veggies.

Subway is just a vast field of bread crumbs unfortunately... And preservatives in lunch meat aren't great either, sigh.
Ive only found a few deli meats that aren't full of crap... Sorry to say.

I forgot you said a veggie ... I used to get a salad there, but I ont risk the crumbs any more. I do order roast beef from Applegate now and again and wrap it up in my homemade red pepper wraps... Yum.

Your "best" isn't particularly stellar. Seriously, why would anyone patronize a tyrannical chain of retailers that conspires to deny America's children wholesome milk, forcing them to drink 2% or die of thirst? If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem!

From the article: Can we really blame them, though? They're stuck paying $400.00 a month to eat boiled lentils.

Yeah- I stayed in Stamford, CT while working Sandy, and the food was pretty slim pickings there. What we did find was fantastic, but you don't trip over chains and franchises there like elsewhere. Not saying that's a bad thing- in fact, it was pretty nice. But you rely heavily on trip advisor and other apps / sites.
