10,000 protesting at the capital today. The unions must have seen this coming, it didn't happen overnight. The unions quit quite some time ago being about the employee. They are now all about the politicians. I do feel bad for people . I'just think they were so insulated in their bubble and many did not have the courage to talk to union reps and say wait...hold on , slow down. I personally know some teachers that felt this way but felt they couldn't say anything. There may still be a vote tonight. They are letting people express opinions for 2 or 3 minutes each. I'm sure that will drag out if it helps prevent a vote tonight.

Just curious , what kind of salary's are we talking about say a cop with 10 years in, starting salary, same with teachers, starting , say 10 years with and with out a masters...if i could see those I would have a better idea of how i feel to be honest with you..i'm from the school, what are we talking about here, specifically. If salary's are normal, but there are people out there stuck in bad jobs or out of work and jealous of those working..well sorry gang...tough. Teachers , fire and cops..needed , other wise, wouldn't have them. Okay found a link...well paid it seems, granted average is a misleading statistic..seems salaries are very good..benefits very, very good. ------------------------------------------------------------------ www.kenoshanews.com/home/average_salary_for_unified_teachers_is_50000year_7896457.html---------------------------------------------------------------------- I am retired, know what I earned in my best years but a while now, times change, they seem low middle class, no idea cost of living in cities of Wisconsin, {do they get free cheese as a bonus a Christmas, very poor attempt at humor, strike that, sorry} My son in private , makes three times that over average, double of the high end plus with bonuses, {very good bonuses} thats a full year job, think three weeks vacation, fortune 500 company, but they work his ass off , lots of responsibility, as it should be for the amount they pay him, always chance of down sizing too. I consider him very well paid. Howwever to have to call out the National Guard, even threaten to, to me a threat, a stick, over kill with out any riots or indication of out of control citizens, ...I would like to see negotiations..offer cut or layoffs first..let the union decide...unless this is what we are , nation, faced with , no longer real middle class. How about freeze of all increases 10 years till times get better, then revisit. Times better, better opportunities open up, community will not be able to fill the jobs, now there is union clout...don't like it...then quit, replace them..anything but the guard till needed. Has all avenues been explored by the governor? Is he just a macho hard ass, there are those you know.

I'm not sure what salaries are but the real contention from what I am hearing is health care contributions (minimal to none) and pension contributions (minimal to none). I know our local teachers received a pretty healthy raise the last few yrs while business all around here were closing and laying off and their first contribution toward their health care came last year. I'm sure there is probably some jealousy out there along with the people just unable to keep watching state and local taxes rise. A bit of both. There could probably be and should be some give on both sides but there hasn't been up until now and Walker seems to think he can pull this one off. Police/fire are not included in this I guess. That has been contributed to campaign contributions but have not heard anything to back that up yet. Who knows? It's just crummy all around and I'm sure more to follow.

I found a link...am sure there's more..round figure...11 year or so teacher hi 50's with a bit over 30 thou in benefits..that's health, death, pensions, what ever..see link above. Didn't do law, just teachers, remember all should have degrees, don't know if HAVE to have masters with in a time period, Connecticut, New York do or did, not sure if they ever dropped that, what I remember, relatives , friends in education back in the day.

I am a little confused by the article that was posted. Is the guard if activated, there to replace fire, police, prison officials, state officials who don't show up to work..to arrest if they violate civil disobedience. with in the collective bargaining..if the state is broke, has to cut , why not just institute a cut back , furlough of x among personnel till they get to what they can afford? Give the leaders of the unions..up to them how to best cut efficiently. What is guard needed for? This is the same mess that UAW put the big 3 in. Leaders of the unions don't know how to do anything efficiently. It is the same thing as saying leave the budge up to our politicians and we will have huge profits.
