We'll see. The people already said they do not want the VP, either. They already tried to kill him.. somebody did, at least, which was then denied, but 2 dead bodies indicate different. It does not seem they know WHAT they want except for these guys to leave. From what I hear the only group organized enough to step in RIGHT NOW is the MB. They SAY they are not going to run a candidate in the elections in Sept.... who knows, they could be in power WAY before then. www.nytimes.com/2011/02/10/opinion/10erian.html?adxnnl=1&partner=rss&emc=rss&adxnnlx=1297353662-9XV28MZBwK+5z0QadhaZrAOp-Ed Contributor What the Muslim Brothers Want By ESSAM EL-ERRIAN Published: February 9, 2011 Sounds benign enough-- except that I've read about what their global goals are, and their idea of justice.. I guess we will see.

FOX is reporting, with caution that it is not confirmed, that Mubarek has been escorted out of Cairo, by the military, to a resort town in Egypt that he owns property in, and that the military announced on state TV that they are in control of the country. They say reports are coming fast and furious and no one really knows yet what is happening. Interesting. The people like the military.. that's good. Hey, maybe the Google kid can run the country as a figurehead.. heck, just let the internet run Egypt..

Good news that he finally is leaving....that was what the crowd was asking for , no talks till he was gone, country needs to get back to normal.

<<< Good news that he finally is leaving....that was what the crowd was asking for , no talks till he was gone, country needs to get back to normal. >>> ...but let's not forget that people were calling for his ouster BEFORE Suleman was named/placed as VP... so it may be of little consolation that he's gone, considering that he named/placed his replacement during this same timeframe...

I agree-- the military there seems to be very pro Egyptian people. It's awesome!! In times past when there has been conspiracy type talk about martial law in the USA, etc, I have always thought that the military would not turn on the people here. Let's hope we never have to find out. I have enjoyed watching the news out of Cairo, seeing the people riding on the tanks, the soldiers walking in the crowds, etc. For some reason I really like that. Of course, I have great respect for military people.

Of course, I have great respect for military people. It was good that they stayed out of it but lets not go over board on their purity here. The high ranking officers have a stake in calming the situation, they own businesses, mansions have stolen plenty and have a vested interest in keeping a good part of the status quo and will be a player here forever. This is not a military such as ours, complete separation from politics though occasion all some feel more active politically wouldn't be a bad idea. It will be interesting , IF and when Mubarak steps down what will unfold. Will it be a care taker government till all the cards are set up in a row, to have political parties formed, alliances put together, possible a rewriting o the constitution, needed and important if the country will be governed by law, not strong man or strong group rule, election dates set up and how the military fits in. Some have suggested you might see a system similar to Turkey. The military very important as a base but civilian leadership, but all ways the military power is present and their thoughts considered . The uncertainty is very high here..as it should be.

I wish Mubarek would get on with whatever he is going to do. Now so many conflicting reports-- he will step down, leave military in charge, step down, but leave VP in charge, NOT step down, but go to some clinic until the end of his term, that the military is set to take action if the protesters do not accept the change... lots of chatter out there.. And conflicting reports from our security agencies here about the MB, who they are, what they want, etc. The coverage by FOX is awesome to watch-- the crowds.. SO many people, all singing the country's national anthem, waving flags, etc. Word is the people will NOT accept the VP stepping in, OR Mubarek just going to some clinic. That is worrisome IF the news from Al-Arabia that the military will take some sort of action against the protesters if they do not accept the offer is true. Obama spoke, didn't say much-- what can he say, really, with the entire world watching and listening-- but he was right about one thing-- this is certainly history unfolding......

There was SO much chatter, though... dang-- this is scary. I, also, hope the army does not turn on the people like Al Arabia reported they would if the people don't like what M said. Did you guys hear him say.. paraphrasing here-- that he will not take orders from foreign gov'ts?? Uh-Oh. And now being reported that IRAN is going to allow their people to join in the protest to support the Egyptians tomorrow. Uh-Oh-- we all know what Iran is about, and what they did to their protesters last year. Anyone else smell an attempt here to create an Islamist nation in Egypt??

If Iran is going to allow demonstrations they must have a way to control them that would stop the demonstrations don't turn on them again, Government in power, the green party of change...could happen... It is being sugesting by commentators, watching CNN, that this broadcast might be a plan to angry the crowd even more, to leave the square march on the TV station, Parlimwent , the Palace of Mubareks as a mob, then government forces, possible the military step in to protect the populace from the Mob. which actually is the populace.

Anyone else smell an attempt here to create an Islamist nation in Egypt?? Considering more than 90% of the people in Egypt practice Islam, I wouldn't exactly call it a christian nation.

Yes, and when the Islamic Brotherhood takes over and starts executing gays, women and Christians, and chucks the peace treaty with Israel, then the liberals will say "really? I didn't know they were into that sort of thing! I thought they were happy Muslim statesmen, just like Obama said..."

Yank-- I have heard said recently that there is a difference between Islamic and an Islamist nation. That Islamic is simply-- Islamic, while an Islamist state is one like Iran. I dunno, really, but I do know that Iran allowing protests about this doesn't make me comfortable, for obvious reasons.

...krick, it could be said that an Islamic state is simply "Islam, uninterrupted" ...others could undoubtedly educate us more than me, but we're basically talking about a theocracy at that point...

BBC is reporting a military analyist at Oxford (an Ali Shukri) as saying the mitary may be coming down on the side of the government and support MUbarek to the end. What is Saudi Arabia doing behind the scenes during all of this?
