Maybe I'm getting old or maybe I just never raised young men . . . We have a young adult male relative visiting us. It's been great to see him. The food bills and the hot water use I expected, but OMG the grooming supplies in the bathroom !!! Shampoo, two different kinds of conditioner, scrubbing grains, manly body wash, body spray (Axe), some other spray deodorant, whitening toothpaste, whitening trays, and assorted other tubes of "grooming" supplies.
Is this a new norm, or this . . . different? DH is a bar-of-soap-and-toothbrush kind of guy (he buys his own stick deodorant and shave cream from the 99 cent store). I remember negotiating with the girls and even then ended up spending a fair amount on their teen/young adult makeup and grooming items, but now young men are getting into the act? Yes/No? Do you have young men in your house and if you do, what do you (or they) spend on grooming supplies? Now I'm really curious . . .

I'll speak for Archie and say:
"He's gay."

I'll speak for Archie and say: "He's gay." He sounds just like my brother in law, who is gay.

He may not be gay, but he's at least metrosexual.

"He's gay."
That's what I was thinking, most straight guys don't have all that.
I'm fairly young, probably not as young as your relative, but all I got is toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, razer and shaving cream, and deoderant.
I guess you could also throw in a few things for my contacts, contact case, contact solution, some cleaning pills ect.
As far as actual cost, none of it is that expensive, except for maybe the razer blades which cost like $20 for a pack of 4. Most of it costs about $4-$5 for a big thing of soap or shampoo.

it IS quite overpowering. Men should smell rugged and earthy - IMO musky but light colognes are good.
ETA: DH just uses a bar of soap, toothbrush/toothpaste, razor/shaving cream, and a spritz of cologne. He's 29.
ETA2: oops, he also uses Pert Plus or basically some kind of shampoo/conditioner combo

I have 2 boys 18 and 20. They are both well groomed young men who take a shower every day. When they are at home, I only need shampoo, "manly" body wash, toothpaste, shaving gel, deodarant. Younger one use to have some acne stuff, but I think he is past that.
Aside from the body wash instead of bar soap, I think that is pretty much the basics. I think the youngest may also have some of the Axe body spray since he has a girlfriend.
We don't really do the teeth whitening, or other assorted body lotions.

Am I the only one who uses shampoo? Nothing fancy, just the giant bottle $4 of pert plus that lasts forever.

I'm just thrilled that the older one wears deoderant. Very low maintenance guys - they'll use whatever shampoo I put in the shower for them. Then again, it's not something I buy, but if someone gives me a gift of the really floral smelling specialty soap and I leave the bar in the shower, all the boys in my house will use it.

Well, DH has as many products in the bathroom as I do if not more. Three different types of hair product + hair spray, his own soap, shampoo, and body wash (but he uses my conditioner - if he uses it at all?). Shaving products - razor, electric razor, shaving cream, aftershave. And cologne. He uses my blow dryer which irritates me because he puts the product on his hair first, then without wiping off his hands picks up the dryer to use it. Gets the handle all gross and I make him clean it off all the time.
My DB, who is gay, has a FULL line of products in his bathroom. It's crazy. The other DB would be the bar soap + toothbrush type.

Gets the handle all gross and I make him clean it off all the time. I use my blow dryer maybe once a month. DH uses it every day. (The boys tease him that he's higher maintenance than I am...) Anyway, lately, the few times I've used it, the handle is all sticky and I couldn't figure out why; I thought the plastic was melting or something. Sounds like DH is using hair product! Very weird. I'm not opposed to him upping the grooming game, I just wish there were a few other things he'd focus on before moving on to using hair product. Baby steps.

DH was out of his soap/body wash once and used my Clinique facial soap to wash his entire body! We had a little chat about my stuff being off limits for washing his behind.

Df uses my shampoo and I sometimes use his styling clay. He has a beard, but he uses an electric razor to groom it and keep his neck clean. He usually uses whatever bar soap is on sale, but he likes the fancy man soaps I sometimes buy him. Since I love sandalwood, I buy them for him often!

I love the scent of Dr. Bronner's Eucalyptus soap on DH, so it's what I buy him for the shower .

He's not gay (has a girlfriend); Metrosexual? a definite maybe. I think the bar on manscaping has been raised for the younger generation. Many more surfaces to trim or tweeze or exfolliate or various and sundry other grooming practices. Guys... girls... doesn't matter. Everything is much more, um, thorough these days.
