I had approached ATM to withdraw some cash and saw a paper slip hanging there forgotten by the previous withrowee... I had looked and it sais: available balance is $3.63 It made my day! I am not a last deadbeat on this planet! What kind of good news have YOU gotten this morning?

Actually, if that person had $3.63 left in their account, they aren't overdrawn. They may not be able to spend more, but they aren't a deadbeat either.

Sure, Rocky, sure. Only next time BEFORE they will be able to withdraw - they will have to deposit!

Yes, but they're not a deadbeat. I probably have $15 in my checking account at the moment. That's because I use the cash system, so I don't keep a large balance in checking after my monthly expenses are paid/transferred. I use cash instead. But I'm reasonably certain I'm not a deadbeat.

I'm a little confused, you went to the ATM and saw a $3.63 balance for someone else. So how does that make it a cc balance?
::Sure, Rocky, sure. Only next time BEFORE they will be able to withdraw - they will have to deposit!::
So people who have to deposit money in the bank are deadbeats? What actually makes this person a deadbeat in your mind?

I think she was just happy to find out there are others in the world that live on the edge, too.

Probably. I think she's assuming quite a bit, though.

Whatever............. Maybe the guy ahead of you also just made a huge college tuition payment. Maybe he paid off all his student loans. Maybe he just paid cash for a car. Maybe he has a million dollars left in his many accounts, but he doesn't keep it in that checking account. You saw one number on one account on one day.

Sorry, no can do. Since I currently have less than $20 in one of my checking accounts, she is calling me a deadbeat. Hmph.

It's always easier to assume certain things... But the easy way isn't always the right way.

A deadbeat is someone who does not pay their debts. I think you're confusing deadbeat with "broke".
Just because you've made up a definition of a word which doesn't actually fit the word doesn't make it real.
You should definitely have someone else look at your daughter's resume before applying for internships. I'd hate for her to get rejected because it says she was a hooker for several years, because you've determined that a hooker is someone who works in retail putting clothes on hooks and hanging them up.

Person who must deposit $18 to the bank to be able to withdraw $20 is a deadbeat in my book. No, a person with $3.35 in the bank and then writes a check for $100 is a deadbeat. There's nothing wrong with having a low checking balance, it's certainly not something to judge somebody's character on, they could very well be living entirely within their means and never paying any overdraft charges.

First of all, I have not used an ATM in probably 5 years, maybe even closer to 10. If I need cash, I just use my card as a debit when paying at the store and get cash back. But, anyway, it wouldn't mean anything to see a 3.63 bank balance. I have one check card that I keep a small account at at a local bank and only keep $25-30 in it just in case I ever need to cash a check on the weekend, I wouldn't have to drive 15+ miles to my credit union. I COULD take $ out if I was desperate (and if I actually knew the PIN, which I don't), and I also have an ATM card through ING (Capital One) that I ONLY use for grocery money, so, it very often would be that low, right before my auto deposit hit. But, again, I don't use it as an ATM and don't even know the PIN for it. Just making the point that what you are gloating about really means NOTHING.

I guess I'll be a deadbeat by this time next week. I currently have just over $200 in checking and as soon as I am able to verify my transfer from my savings at a different bank, I'll be writing a check that will bring that balance down to $17. Better than $3.63 but still not enough for an ATM withdrawal.

I just charged $3.92 from Amazon for a book. And it's the only charge on that card this month. Does that make me a deadbeat? <<<Please say yes, please say yes!>>>
