A note would help. And I rarely take time off to be sick. I did take a few hours Monday, but before that, my last sick day was over 2 years ago. Actually, I just wanna see what an EE'er would write on a sick note.

Oh, good, because I wanna go all psychopath on my coworker about now. I would need a doctor to tell me that was OK.
I just want her to quit talking. Nobody cares about what she has said, done, been through, seen or experienced. Big, fat, hairy deal if it's better or worse than anyone else. The boss just got done with a meeting, and she was practically chewing on his door, she was so anxious to jump in and show off to his guests with her knowitall-ness.
Geez, I really do need to go home.

Geez, I really do need to go home. Go home if you have to- just don't go 'postal'. If you can get some ear plugs , listen to on line radio, ignore her....or put yourself in an out of body experience to distance your self. Last week there was a hospital unit secretary that was concerned about his bombing the hospital where I work. It made for a very 'interesting' shift.

::the hospital where I work. ::
Just because they gave you a white coat to wear for your stay in the hospital, doesn't mean you work there. Was your "shift" 72 hours, and was it involuntary?

[Do you ever just wake up and...]
Does it count if I sometimes go to bed a little bit early in order to do that?
I think the AMA needs to clearly define too sick to be at work-a guideline for employees and employers to go by.
For example, the woman who gave me, and ~400 other people, severe flu on 11/8/10, spewed once a minute on average the entire work day and could not go longer than one minute without involuntarily spewing forth germs.
So #1 on the AMA list should be frequency of involuntary spewing (not to be confused with people who voluntarily refuse to cover their mouths.)
Hey, this would make a good Letterman list. Top Ten Reasons You Are Too Sick To Go To Work.

ysi, it should be like it was in school - once you vomit, you get sent home.

No. Every morning when my alarm goes off I jump out of bed - happy that I get to spend another day in the office. <sarcasm> I get a kick out of people that don't want to work - and then don't.
I am not saying any of you guys are like that. I have come across people in my life that tell me they just don't want to work and I always thought to myself "I LOVE leaving the comfort of my home every single day all day long."

I bet you're only tested for it though if you seek out the testing. I think "obvious symptoms" should lead to "expulsion" from work by the employer. The problem here is people use up sick leave then try to work when contagious, or have short-sighted bosses who don't care they are contagious and they feel forced to work anyway.

I haven't purposely tried to use up sick leave. It carries over forever so why would I? I only get 4 hours sick leave every 2 weeks. Most of my days are 9 hour days. Takes me a month and a half to earn enough leave to be off for one day. We can use it for dr appts, being sick, and funerals. Until this month I'd used 15 hours for a funeral and a few hours here and there for doctor appointments. I stayed home for 2 days last week. I'm still not better and I'd still like to sleep 12 hours a night but its not happening. Allergies and asthma aren't contagious though.

It would be a gamble to be tested for influenza for a week off. I'd be out a week's pay cuz no work means no pay. I try to stay as healthy as possible.
