This thread has made me feel "normal" as the night sweats and waking up started a few weeks ago for me. (I thought it was due to my RA flare up which exacerbates every ache and pain anyway).

Same here, bitched and moaned about periods. Scoffed at hot flashes. Ha! Stupid me, I found periods a lot more of a hassle than menopause. Glad they're over. And, with one of my staff out on maternity leave (due back in on Monday, thank heaven), another due to have her baby in June, and 2 other young, female, newly-married staff, I think my employer is glad, too.

Oddly enough the hot flashes/sweats etc completely stopped when I had an IUD put in. Worked like a charm! Don't IUDs release hormones?

Sounds scary!! I'm 47, I should expect it to start anytime now, right? Depressing.

Sounds scary!! I'm 47, I should expect it to start anytime now, right? Depressing. Yeah, buy yourself a scooter and take up crocheting- life is over! Seriously- since turning 50 I've remarried, taken up sprint triathlons, visited a dozen new countries including India, and changed jobs. You'll have hot flashes whether you're on a transatlantic flight or watching marathons of "Bridezillas". Life is what you make it.

I'm wondering why it helps to stick my foot from under the blanket when I am hot ALL OVER.

Kittypuppymom, you might want to see if you are gluten sensitive also. You have a lot of similar symptoms (there are numerous symptoms). I don't have celiacs, but am sensitive to gluten. If you have the tests, don't be surprised if they come back negative. Mostly people that test positive are severe. I gave it up and feel much better. I can also tell if I've had gluten. Alot of people will tell you it's not safe to give it up, but really, it isn't much different than giving up alot of carbs like bread. Believe me, there are so many things you can eat that you don't miss out on much. And yes, it is healthy. Alot of it is just home cooking without all the processed stuff, which isn't good for anyone.
