What is the minimum we need to do before the chg

Moon and mods,

Some of us are not prepared for the change and I myself am not eager as I expect new memory requirements to insure I will only be able to be on from the library after the cut over.

So for those of us who aren't as eager, what is the minimum we need to do before the cut over? It appears we all need to create some global account as our current log-in info will no longer cut it. Correct?

So if someone could post a summary of what we need to do now it would be extremely helpful. Also, if the cut over does happen before the 16th it would be great if the board overall could be warned at least a day in advance. Until yesterday I didn't realize the 16th was a Wednesday and originally I wasn't planning to deal with this until Oh Thursday. Obviously I need to change my plans.

Optimist, you don't actually *have* to do anything before the upgrade. I have been asking people to go do their global id ahead of time though, just so it's done. They've changed their upgrade process though, to make it easier.

As for the possibility of upgrade before Wed, I don't yet know and may not until Monday. I received a PM from Martyn Dale, who is their tech support guy over there. This is the majority of it (bolded/colored emphasis mine):

As mentioned in the post, this Monday we will be looking at the top forums in the contest to see which forum will be upgraded to v5. How do we determine which forum that is? The forum scoring the most points AND is interested in being a part of a testing phase.

Why might people not be interested? Surely anyone who is looking to upgrade early will do it?
Not necessarily.

Due to the fact it will be a test phase, there is the chance (although unlikely) that issues may be discovered which result in a slower conversion time, or the need to temporally revert the forum back to v4.5. Additionally, the forum would be converted to v5 at the time we are ready, not at a time which may be best for your users. This is the reason for us giving forums the option rather than just doing this to the forum with most points.

So, what that means is that if it turns out to be us, we may not get much notice at all. I will do my best to give notice if I can, though. If we do it on Wednesday, you can probably figure I will do it early in the morning when I get to work (I start at 6 am) because that time of day there aren't usually too many online and I'd like to minimize impact as much as possible.

Thanks Moon. Given they changed the process so we can keep our IDs
perhaps I will just wait until the cut over. I'm glad they've made it so
we can log in as normal but know that the changeover is here.
