I did 35 minutes on the elliptical this morning before going for the Botox injections in my head/neck/shoulder that I'm hoping are going to solve my evil headaches. Won't know for a few days if it worked. May give myself tomorrow off, as right now I feel like crap.

Hey ladies, mind if I join? I’m looking for some support and accountability on my weight loss journey.
Short version: I’d like to lose 45 lbs. (I’m not putting a time limit on my goal, at least not yet.) I’m going to use the tagline like we do for racing, so I can see my progress. I’m following WW, and my weigh in day is Tuesday. At my weigh in last night I was down almost 3 lbs, which I’m friggin ecstatic about. Minnesotagirl7: (45 lbs 10/23/13)
Long version: I joined WW in 2006, and lost almost 35 lbs. But then I got lazy, thought I could do it on my own, etc. Gained it all back and more. I go to WW with my mom, and we’ve been doing it half-assed for over a year. But I need to lose, so in the last few days I’ve rededicated myself. I’ve been tracking my food like a champ, and within the next few days I’m going to amp up my activity. DH has been using MFP, and I’ll likely do that with him along with my WW tracking. I’m focusing on low carb, and high protein/fiber. I will also be tracking my measurements. That’s something I’ve not done in the past, but I like the idea of another way to see progress other than the scale.
Does anyone have suggestions for sides I can make with my high protein dinners? I’m kind of a lazy cook, but I’m willing to try something more involved too. For example, right now I have some cottage cheese or raw vegetables. I’d like a couple more options for variety. Thanks!

Minnesota- Veggies are always your best bet. During the week, I rely a lot on the steamable veggie packs or make a salad to go with my meat. Be sure and eat healthy fats... when you cut your carbs and increase your proteins you need the extra fats- they really help your food stick with you. also- you'll need more water. I always feel a million times better when I focus on lean proteins/fruits/veggies and cut out flour and sugar. I decided to switch back 2 weeks ago and got sick, then the only thing i wanted/could stomach was chicken noodle soup/chicken flavored rice and toast

Thanks, sarcastic and bsbound. I've been drinking a lot more water and cutting back on my pop intake. I won't even tell you how many cans of diet dr. pepper I used to drink in a day... And unless its all in my head I'm already feeling the different from the increase in water and eating better. I hope you're feeling better sarcastic.

I didn't do great on food choices yesterday, but I did well on overall calories. Still not together enough after our trip to be back to swimming or circuit training - the mile-high pile of laundry and lack of edible food in the house trump exercising at the moment. Pizza lunch for the boss today, will try hard to be good but it's hard because presence is mandatory, as is sharing in the food. Birthday celebrations are apparently a big deal to her. So willing myself to be somewhat disciplined.

welcome, minnesotagirl! I echo the veggies. how are you preparing your meats/fish? I'm going to assume you still live in MN, and your grill won't be available much longer this season, but this advice will work for a grill pan too, in batches - there's a lot of hearty veggies that you can grill right alongside your proteins. corn cobs, asparagus (just a couple minutes though), most squashes, eggplant, large portabellas, I could go on. one of the biggest results-producers I've found is cutting out all dairy for as many meals as possible. I'll "cheat" every now and then to make sure my body still knows how to process it. my sis has been dairy-free for medical reasons for almost a year now. she took a "cheat" bite of our cousin's amazing blueberry cheesecake this summer and had to spit it out, it was so rich to her. just the quick taste sent her into a couple days of unpleasantness since her system wasn't used to the dairy anymore. I don't need to deal with that! as far as an update for me, I've ticked back up a couple lbs in recent weeks. I've had a bit of completely unnecessary stress that isn't my doing, and I haven't been eating all that well. I had two weddings so far this month, and I'm leaving for a cruise next Thursday. I'm not sweating it too much, because the last time I was on this ship, the food was awful enough that I lost 6lbs over 5 days. I'm deliberately not bringing snacks in the hopes of the same results, at the very least it will kickstart my metabolism like the last time. this particular music cruise isn't going to be as much of a party boat for me as the last one (but it will be rockin!) so I won't be drinking nearly as much either. will post back when I get home

My grill doesn't go out of commission ever. I prep food and DH goes outside, knocks the snow off the grill and fires it up!! LOL :-)

I am considering getting a fire pit instead of a traditional grill so I can sit outside and enjoy it when I do not have food on it. I am a little skittish, but I really like grilled food.
My clothes are getting too big. MommaBear is trying to sabotage me and got mad when I told her I didn't appreciate it.

Hang in there, Mizbear! I'm sorry MommaBear is being unhelpful You are doing great, don't let anyone/anything derail you now. My good news is that I did 35 minutes on the elliptical this morning. My bad news is that the Botox shots on Wednesday don't appear to have done anything at all for my headaches.

Swam for 2 miles today - straight without a break! Partially makes up for a totally f*d up food week.

I woke up this morning and couldn't even stand on my right foot. I have plantar fasciitis and probably won't be running for a while. Bummer!

Went hiking for a few hours this weekend. 5+ miles along with the equivalent of 36 flights of stairs. Felt great! I love hiking during the fall.

I walked 13.1 miles this morning. Amazingly, I feel pretty decent!
I guess I will be ready for the 15K next week, and the half marathon in 3 weeks. And more than ready for a winter off from this long-distance walking crap.

Bsb- I went to starved rock. My dh's hometown is about 5 mins away. We were overdue for a visit to the in-laws.
When I was in the burbs, I used to go to the forest preserves... Less of a hike, since there aren't a lot of inclines. Have you checked to see if there are any forest preserves out near you?

Yeah... The inclines really kick things up a notch. Sadly, there isn't much elevation around here. Sent from my Nexus 4 using proboards

It is one of my favorite things in all of Illinois. So crazy to have these huge canyons in the middle of the flat midwest!

I am trying to convince myself that I want to get up every morning and go swim before work. Which means a 4:45am wakeup to be at the gym by 5 and home by 6:30 before B gets up for the day and DH leaves for work. It would be so amazing to start the day with a workout, and swimming like a mile every morning would really kick my fitness level up. But 4:45am... It's just so... early. I'm spoiled now with my short commute and relatively late wakeup! I want to do this, right?

4:45am wakeup? If you can swing it... GO FOR IT! I know several people who get up early and get their workout done in the morning. I have tried it several times but I feel like I only do half-ass workouts because I feel so crappy when I wake up super early and I'm half asleep. I had an easier time during the summer because the sun was up and shining. It would be pretty sweet to have it done and out of the way first thing in the morning!!!

I work out in the morning before work and love the feeling of getting it done, plus it actually energizes me for the rest of my day. Why not try it for two weeks and see how it goes? You might surprise yourself.

I like the 2 week trial idea, thanks!
