I thought it was probably a scam as soon as I read this:
Seriously? Her husband left her and took THE WASHER AND DRYER???
If my husband ever left, he might take the t.v., the Xbox or even the microwave, but I'm pretty sure the washer and dryer would be left behind.

As soon as someone explained to my husband what those funny white boxes did, he might be interested in them. ETA - my youngest sister once had a lowlife boyfriend who moved out while she was at work - she was in college full time and the only one working as well, yes he was a gem - and cleaned out the apartment. Even though she was the who had bought all the stuff, he took it with him. He even took stuff to be mean, like all her socks.

Personally I didn't find the whole thing raising big red flags for me, at least not the story of needing a washer. If it was really just a scam, she would have requested both. And frankly their are better things to go after than a washer if you are trying to get the items to resell for profit. I think that she likely is a single mother in need of a washer. Although, that doesn't mean the GCs are valid, so that part of it could have been a scam. Smart to take the $300 for the set.
