My holiday bonus is only $100 or $200. Generally I just use it toward paying for all the usual Christmas stuff.

Yep we had an amazing year. Best we've ever had, busy from beginning to end. We do a lot of site development. We've had 2 very large projects this year. One was on a timeline that was really too agressive for a company our size, but we made it happen (while I was throwing up in between doing the engineering and drafting ). The other one is an insane private residence that the goal is to turn it into a showcase and have events at it. We'll be knee deep in that project for the next 5 years. ;D THe engineering side will be hit and miss, but there will be a lot of construction staking with it. We also do a lot of stormwater design and review for a small city in our area, but those projects are not what made this year so good.

Thanks wrongside and almost40. ;D I'd share, but then I'd also want to share my medical bills from 2012 and the ones we are anticipating in 2013.

We'll be knee deep in that project for the next 5 years. ;D That is awesome!! You have to love those projects. My office (of 5) had the best year we have ever had (started in 2005). We do transportation design & planning. But our main office wasn't nearly as successful, so I don't expect huge bonuses this year.

Our company is having a shitty year this year. We took on a couple of projects and used some subs that were not good. Our company has been in business for about 96 years and has had only a handful of years in which we lost money. This is going to be one of them and maybe the biggest. Sucks. But hopefully we have put all of the bad news behind us and will be profitable again come next year.

We don't get a holiday bonus, but receive an annual bonus in November. This was a particularly good year and I received a $11K bonus.

We don't get a holiday bonus, but receive an annual bonus in November. This was a particularly good year and I received a $11K bonus. Congrats! Although I suppose it is all relative to your pay. If you are bringing home 250K/yr this probably isn't too big of a deal. If your salary is 50K, then this is a pretty awesome bonus. Arch - sorry about your company this year. Hopefully things will turn around for you in 2013.

There is a benefit to it just being us, but then it is just us if things are bad. Archie - sorry your company had a tough year.

I don't know until later in the month, they have a shareholder meeting next week. I just finished the November statements with in a few thousand so know the profit pretty much already. The shareholders will give the president a lump sum to share with us. My guess is 250K or so, he will keep a good part for himself and pay 4 others nice amounts so I will get about the 6th highest amount then about 6 more people will get decent amounts. Then the union people will be given money based on rank so all foremen one amount then all under them a different smaller amount.
I expect to get 5-8K would be surprised with much more or less but will have 25% withheld plus SS and Medicare. I use the bonus to fund my ROTH IRA in January and dividend income if that isn't enough. My Dec 15 pay finishes off my 401K for the year, only 500 to go so my last two checks will go to withholding mostly but extra for spending too. My mutual funds already started paying December dividends I got about $400 yesterday and my stocks pay dividends on the 15th. My taxable accounts throws off about 2-4K in December in dividends and gains. Then January we get profit sharing should be 15% again this year but it goes to the 401K.

We typically get year-end bonuses, and since our fiscal year matches the calendar year, it's right around the holidays. Our company meeting is next Thursday, so we usually get them that day or the next. We also typically get much smaller mid-year bonuses around June or July. This year, I think the mid-year bonus was around $1k (fairly standard) and typically year-end bonus ranges from $4-6k - I think?? I'm boring and don't usually do anything fun with them.

Griswold Family Swimming Pool!
I think if you do enough responsible things with your salary, you are allowed to blow the extra money.

My new company gives serious bonuses around April, so I wasn't expecting it when the boss came around the day before Thanksgiving handing out checks, grossed up to net down to $100. OK, so I squandered it all on myself. My iPod nano had died and I added $60 to it and bought the latest version, with the tiny video screen. I love it.

My company had done the exact same Christmas/Holiday bonus for over 10 years now (I've been employed for 18, so I know it used to be way better). I just received it in the mail a couple of days ago. $20 gift card to Walmart. It's become a running joke with all of the coworkers I talk to. The first year they did it, most of the employees were highly offended. Now we just laugh about it while trying not to be jealous of those with better bonuses.

I just got my holiday bonus this morning. Has anyone else gotten one yet? Do you have plans for it? I have decided to do the following which is probably not very YM: 30% savings 10% charity 60% spent on ME! Woo Hoo Merry Christmas to ME! cool!! how much we talking about? 1K bonus so a decent amount (to me anyway).
