I really want a new phone. Right now I have a non-smart phone that I got in March of 2010, yep I have an 8 year old phone. My Dad pays my cell bill as part of a family plan so what I get is semi dictated by him. If I wanted to buy my own smart phone he wouldn't have a problem with that but I doubt I would have any type of data plan. He doesn't see the need. I am hoping within the next year to break away from the family plan and do my own thing.

My data plan is so small that it is no longer offered. I am grandfathered in. I probably have to get the now offered smallest plan if I have to get a new phone.
Sometimes I wonder if I really need a smart phone.

Tuesday I was lectured by the young pharmacy manager at Walmart because I didn't have the WMT app on my phone. He offered to do it for me also....he just couldn't get it through his head that I didn't want the app on my phone and wouldn't use it anyway. My phone texts, emails and darn it all....it acts like a phone. Imagine that!!!
Yesterday I stopped at Lowes to buy some liquid weed killer. I told the cashier this purchase was "military discount". She finally had to call a manager over to authorize it due to the new policy for military discounts, which follows" In order to continue to receive my discount, I must have a My Lowes card". I politely told her I didn't want a My Lowes card.....so, for this purchase she allowed the discount, but going forward I'll no longer be able to do that. Next stop? Home Depot. Will not shop Lowes again.
Onto Walmart yesterday. We have the largest store WMT ever built 1/2 mile from my house (188K sf). Needed to get a birthday card...just one little lonely birthday card. Of course, only 4 non-Scan & Go lanes were open, even the express lanes are now gone. I absolutely positively refuse to use the Scan & Go until they make it worth my effort to do all the work myself when purchasing anything. I went to the shortest lane open, paid $3.97 for a card, and grumbled to myself all the way to the car.
I'm not going to play by all these new rules in place to accomplish nothing more than ticking me off.

I rarely, if ever, use the scan and go. My main grocery store is a local chain and they don't even have scan and go machines, but they do still have box boys/girls who will carry your groceries out to your car and return your cart to the store. It is only in the last year or so that they even have cart corrals in the parking lot.

We had 7 kittens adopted today at our Petco Adoption Center ~ yay! We also rescued a new little buff-and-white one. My healthy eating is continuing .... 3 months down and 45 pounds lost. Slowly but surely, I'm working on getting healthier and keeping my blood sugar under control. My next blood test is April 30 ... with a doc appt on May 10 ... so I've got enough time to continue to make a positive change. We went to Trader Joes this evening and I am ~ once again ~ ridiculously stocked up on veggies! My other goal this month is to try to move and stretch more. 2018 and has gotten off to a slower-than-hoped for fundraising start for the rescue. ( I coordinate all fundraising efforts for the 501c3 nonprofit). We're down $25,000 this year from last year for the first quarter of the year ~ and that's a bit discouraging and frustrating for me. Facebook is really showing people a lot fewer "page" posts ... and so much of our fundraising comes from publicity and posts on Facebook. I will say that we had sort of an epic first quarter in 2017 ( we had a dozen pink plastic bins dumped on our property containing kittens ~ and got a lot of media attention last February. Our local newspaper, 2 local tv stations and the LA Times covered that... so at least I KNOW why we're down a bit this year.) Lunch today was a salad I made from the Whole Foods Salad bar: romaine, spinach, carrots, red pepper, radishes, lime-basic tofu, artichoke hearts, asparagus, fat free balsamic dressing, and probably more croutons than I needed ... but they were crunchy and delightful! ( That was 7 veggies plus tofu ... which isn't exactly a veggie.... )Dinner: Brisket, roasted carrots, asparagus, a potato pancake, and greens: spinach, mustard, collard and turnip greens. ( Don't be TOO impressed with my cooking skills ... the brisket and potato pancakes came from Whole Foods!) Weather-wise, our 10-day forecast is all 70s and 80s. There is the possibility of showers next Friday ... otherwise, a mix of sunny/partly cloudy. The overnight lows are all in the 50s. April weather is really quite nice here ... not beastly hot .... that usually starts in May. That's one of the reasons why we chose to get married in April ... 15 years ago. (April 12 will be our 15th anniversary) We were invited to a friend's house for Easter, but declined since we both just want to stay home and enjoy some peace, quiet and down time. For those of you who celebrate Easter or Passover (or just Spring) ~ I hope you enjoy yourselves!

I have them put dad's on his side of the back seat and mine on the other side. I usually take dad about the same time every Thursday and the regular clerks all now us and are very kind to him.

There have been stories on our local television stories about charities being concerned that so many people will no longer itemize, that donations will drop. Sorry it's coming true for your charity.

We had a good Easter Sunday. It was fairly low key since my Sister and her family stayed home. I stayed after and helped my Mom with some of the clean up, hauling extra chairs down stairs and drying the silver etc. She sent me home with a couple pieces of lemon pie. Right now I am stuffed so they will keep for later.

I think you're right.... though, honestly, we tend to attract a fairly large number of small donors, rather than a few large donors. We bring in over $1 million a year ... $5 and $10 and $20 at a time. So I guess I just need to try to reach more donors.

We had a fairly quiet day today. We got caught up on our rest, and then enjoyed lunch at front in the sunshine, watching the birds and squirrels. Then we were off to Walmart to pick up our groceries. I spent a good hour in the swimming pool (yes, it was cold) ... but I was reading in the sunshine and the sun felt good. My top half was warm, my bottom half was cold!
Did some bill paying and banking this afternoon ... it's the first of the month, after all.
Dinner tonight was leftovers: brisket, asparagus, potato pancake. plus some cauliflower and toast. We started watching Jesus Christ Superstar on NBC. but rock operas really aren't my musical genre, so I turned it off before it was over. (I found the live audience screaming so loudly you couldn't hear the singers to be a bit distracting, too.)
(Lunch included 14 veggies, if anyone is keeping track)

I love scan and go. It’s fast and I can pack my own stuff and not get eggs on top of my bread. I’m in and out quicker than spit! Target has it now as well.

Not much happening around here .... we had some rain, but I think that is behind us. I went to a fundraiser yesterday and had a nice time. It's a drill weekend so my wonderful DH is at work today ... so I'm home doing laundry and tidying up .... I probably need to fill bird feeders, too. My healthy eating took a detour yesterday, but I'm back on board today. Brunch today is fiber one cereal, leftover brussel sprouts, half an artichoke, and the leftover beef moussaka. OK, that's a weird combination ... but I want to finish up some leftovers. Hey, fiber, right? Weather-wise, we've got highs in the 70s and 80s this week. Thursday is our 15th wedding anniversary.

❤ mollymouser ❤ happy anniversary! Curious if you have any advice about keeping my new cats off the tables and countertops. We have squirt bottles but that doesn't seem to be enough of a deterrent. Hoping they outgrow it as they get older and lazier because I really dislike this habit - grosses me out.

OK, after a week or so of not really focusing on my veggies, I'm back and trying to do better. The scale has bounced up 2.2 pounds and I know that's pretty normal ( the tide comes in, the tide goes out) ... but it was a good reminder that I had goals for my April 30 blood test and my May 10 doctors appointment. I am hoping for a "low tide" day on May 10 when I have to step on that scale in the doctor's office. I hate that scale. And I hate that they make me wear clothes to step on it. (snort) Went and got my hair trimmed today ( I was feeling scruffy) and then headed over to Trader Joes and stocked up: red peppers, yellow peppers, orange peppers, jicama, chard, spinach, kale, tomatoes, apples, chopped salad ( there are 8 veggies in there), egg white salads, eggplant hummus, cheese sticks, chicken, salmon, sirloin, and some more of their Everything Bagel spice blend. I was somewhat proud of myself resisting various fast food places on the way home.... yay, me! LUNCH: chard, kale, spinach, acorn squash, jicama, mushrooms, cucumbers, radishes, tomatoes and some leftover sirloin. I've signed up for the postal services' Informed Daily Delivery Digest where they take photos of your mail and give you the tracking info for any packages you're going to receive that day. According to the digest, no packages today. So what did I see the mail lady dropping off on my doorstep as I drove up? Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR boxes. Methinks their system needs some work. I also got a box from Fed Ex and a box from UPS. No, I haven't gone on an Amazon shopping rampage (well, no more than usual) ... it's donations for The Cat House on the Kings May 5 Spring Open House Silent Auction ... I collect the mailed-in donations, inventory them, and keep them safe until they can be transported to the CHOTK and put in a special location. We started doing this 5 years ago because staff was losing things ( or misplacing things) .... so now I've got a nice pile of things to transfer to Tammy tomorrow at the Petco Adoption Center. ( She goes out to the CHOTK on Wednesdays and Thursdays) This will be my 2nd transfer of "loot." I ordered 4 cute prints and 4 matching red frames for the Open House, and I spent some time last night putting them in frames. There's an owl wearing red glasses, a llama wearing red glasses, and 2 different cats wearing red glasses ... and they are just adorable in the red frames. Here's the link to the cute owl (if you're interested) smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B018V7AXQY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I also ordered a cute cat bed shaped like a banana and matching banana cat toys ... which are cute cute cute. My wonderful DH was out of town on Tuesday and Wednesday, came home last night, and is out of town again today and tomorrow. I was proud of myself for breaking down the impressive "fort" of cardboard boxes he'd been storing in the garage and along side of the house and getting them ALL to fit in our recycling bin. I spent a lot of time ripping up cardboard and now my arms are sore! ( Yes, getting a box cutter WOULD have been far more sensible, but I was too focused lazy to stop what I was doing to go look for one.) (grin) Thanks you for the Happy Anniversary Wishes. I didn't actually get to spend my anniversary with my wonderful DH (he was working), but the plan was to go out to dinner tonight ~ a week later. But he's out of town. He did, however, get me some lovely gifts (yard decor, some clothes, and a very pretty heart necklace), which was nice of him. After 15 years, we're pretty used to the military interfering with our social life. OK, enough chatting for me ... I need to go process some cat adoption applications and to post cute cat photos on Facebook and ask strangers for money. If you're on Facebook, please consider joining The Cat House on the Kings Official Fan Group ... it's a lot of fun. Here is the link: www.facebook.com/groups/CHOTK/ (There is one screening question that asks if you're a spammer)

I have not found squirt bottles to be effective for anything. Lucy is a good cat. The counters are the only thing she does that I don't like. There could be so much worse.

DINNER: mahi mahi, toast, cabbage, yellow/purple/orange carrots, pea pods, and a small pink lady apple. (I also had a bowl of Original Fiber One cereal right before dinner because I was hungry). I was trying to have different veggies for dinner than what I had at lunch. If I hadn't had the cereal, I would have had some corn on the cob.

I have young kids who aren't good about keeping the counters clean much less wiping them down. And they are still young enough that they think nothing of making a sandwich right on the counter - who needs a plate - blech!
My next step is try putting down sticky tape on the weekend when we are home to reinforce the message that counters are not for kittens.
Really hoping they continue to mellow out as they age. Both girls have taken to sleeping with their doors closed because one kitten or another will bite their toes or chew their hair during the night.
They are also scratching our bathroom mats and destroying them so I switched to more of a flat welcome mat this week.
Don't get me wrong, I love the little buggers (kittens and children both LOL).

My sister thought she trained her cat not to go on the counters. It only worked when they were home. Cats going to do what cats do.
Same for the scratching. I have lots of scratching posts. Lucy scratches on the posts. Yes, sometimes I redirect her to the posts but she hasn't destroyed any furniture or rugs.
Kittens are much more active than an adult cat. Lucy sleeps with me. Sometimes she decides she wants to purr on my chest at 3 AM, but she doesn't bite my toes or hair.

Mom and I went out of town for a long weekend. Oreo is acting like I was out of town for decades. We had a good relaxing weekend and I didn't overspend. I spent a lot, love the quilt stores over there, but I had saved my survey money for this trip so all is good.

Hello everyone it's been a while! *** Waves ***
Well things are closed on Mom's estate and all I need to do is hold onto the paperwork for a year and just ignore it. My brother and I are planning to spread her ashes next month at a spot the whole family enjoyed.
It has been a busy few months - March I bought and installed a new water heater - I got a 15 year one so I didn't have to stress about it. Than I finally broke down and bought a new mattress and pillows and rounded out the spending frenzy with a new computer. You know you a technologically behind when iTunes sends you a e-mail saying they won't be able to run on the platform you have been using. I just need to unbox and hook up my new HP all in one. I really enjoy that it has 2 tb of storage which is pleanty for my music, e-books and audiobooks. The new mattress has really improved my sleep so that is a game changer for me. It is so nice to wake up and not have my hips and lower back hurt all the time.

Sometimes I wonder if I really need a smart phone. I did get a new smart phone. The carrier did grandfather me in on the data plan. The battery was quickly dying on the old phone. It was to a point where I couldn't wait any longer for the one I ordered to arrive. Of course, as soon as I trade in the old phone, they contact me that the battery came in. I called to get the refund I was told about in case my phone didn't make it until the battery arrived. The woman who answered the phone was rude and told me I had to come in (a 90 minute drive each way) to get the refund. Then I got a second email reminding me to come in so I responded with what happened. The owner called and I am getting a refund without going in to the store.
