I was scratched by a wayward kitten today at Petco ~ I look like I broke up a cat fight. Happy New Year. Any goals for 2018?

❤ mollymouser ❤ be sure and hit those scratches with a little antibiotic ointment. Those little needles that kittens call claws can really do a number on your extremities.

And we keep antibiotic on hand at the adoption center! It sounded like a war zone here last night for New Years Eve and idiots shooting off guns ... over 100 shooting incidents and bullets went into 2 homes! Yikes! New Year ... going to try to eat better this year.

I am so done with New Year "celebrating!" It seems as I get older the more things get on my nerves. Having to listen to loud fireworks for several hours off and on the last 2 days has really turned me grumpy.

I didn't hear any fireworks. I'm guessing because the temperatures were/are minus 15 below zero.
I thought I would as they are legal in this state.

The nearby fireworks were very few and they were much earlier in the evening, like 7pm. I could faintly hear other fireworks but they were further away. It was much quieter than past years. Even then neighbor who is behind my next door neighbor didn't let loose with their big barrage of fireworks at midnight.

We're forecast for rain tomorrow ~ we need it. Our snowpack in the mountains is at 3% of normal. We do not need more drought.
New year ... trying to eat healthier (yet again) So that means vegetables.

No flooding here, thank goodness. The stories from southern California are just heartwrenching.
15 days into January and I've been eating my veggies. Tonight was broccoli, radishes, carrots and spaghetti squash. I put some spicy marinara on the spaghetti squash and added some italian sausage. Yum.
My big push this month for the cat rescue is selling calendars. We've STILL got some left!
Only 1 day of rain in the 10-day forecast. We need more. Otherwise, it's just been sort of grey, foggy and smoggy.

I am eating my veggies.
Dinner tonight was tuna and shrimp Poke, plus a nice pile of spaghetti squash.

I have started gathering tax info but need to finish it up. I also need to call the CPA and make my appointment, usually go the first week of Feb.

Since Lucy has been an only cat her entire life (with two different humans), I don't think I want to bring a cat in to her domain. It took her a year to feel completely comfortable with me. She still panics when I leave her, even to go across the street to get the mail.
Then if I decide to adopt again, it will definitely be a bonded pair of adult cats.

In tax news, I received an email from Turbo Tax that says they are accepting e-filings of tax returns. I figure I might as well get mine in line for when they are released to the IRS.

We had a bonded pair adopted today at the Adoption Center: Jack and Jill (brother and sister).
It was a hectic day ~ we had the vet in and had to wrestle and wrangle 27 kitties to get their rabies vaccination (required by Petco).
It was nice to see that the sun actually came out today, even if I was inside and didn't see much more than the drive home!
We took in an adorable little buff-colored Fluffball who was very meowy until her foster mom picked her up. For those of you on Facebook, there's a few pictures on my Facebook page.
My healthy eating ~ focus on vegetables is progressing ... 20 days so far. Lunch today was from El Pollo Loco which actually has an "under 500 calories" menu which is pretty nice. I had the avocado shrimp plate with a side of broccoli. It seemed a bit "light" so I had a bag of my protein chips as a snack later in the afternoon.
Well, the government shutdown has happened, which means that my wonderful DH won't be getting paid on time and in the correct amount. Which ~ in all fairness ~ is actually pretty normal for us. (grin) No crisis here, we've got a fully-funded emergency fund and we're ridiculously used to pay problems.

My Mom celebrated her 98th birthday on Jan. 14. She is now in the hospital and the outcome at this point is still unknown. I'm packed and ready to go at a moments notice, but it is a 6.5 hour drive.....my son is there with her and has medical POA etc. It's going to break his heart when she dies.....I hope I'm there for him when that happens.
The one thing we do know is that she won't be going to assisted living. likely has a nursing home in her future (watch her scream then)

Dad needs to be in assisted living. Sister has POA and does not agree. I'm sorry to hear about your mom.

Slept in this morning ~ which was just delightful.
After breakfast, we headed out to do some shopping at Trader Joes, where I picked up greens, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant hummus, egg white salads, chicken, salmon, apples and bananas.
Lunch was half an apple with cheddar cheese, and some leftover tofu.
Filled bird feeders (and peanuts for the squirrels) and then I enjoyed some reading in the hot tub. (Cloudy today, or I would have found a sunny spot) I'm reading some historical fiction about Sri Lanka and it's very interesting.
Also did online stuff for the cat rescue, and babysat the rescue Facebook page, fan group, and helped answer questions in both of the Dave Ramsey Facebook groups I help moderate.
Dinner: roasted acorn squash steamed mustard greens, collard greens and turnip greens grilled balsamic chicken multigrain toast with eggplant hummus

I picked up a great deal on dog toys yesterday. DD's Australian Shepherd loves the horses that Wells Fargo gives away periodically as a promotion for opening a new account. Hers right now has been relegated to the cupboard because it has developed yet another hole. I found 2 of them on a FB garage sale site yesterday for $5. Pet toys are so expensive and to get 2/$5 I consider a deal. Even if the lady did probably get them for free I still consider it a win all the way around.

After any holiday is a great time to shop for pet toys at Petco ( probably other stores, but I'm in Petco every week) ..... the Halloween toys go on sale, the Valentines Toys go on sale, the Christmas toys, etc. I am amazed that there are so many toy-buying occasions for cats and dogs ... marketing works! Ate my veggies for lunch: Greens and broccoli (collard, turnip, mustard), a salad (cucumber, radish, tomato, carrots), some egg whites and a lime yogurt. That's 8 veggies. So there! This was my Facebook status this morning: When you realize that all of your cats are on the Catio, running frantically around the sofa out there ~ and you suspect (correctly) that Jack must have brought in a "mousie" last night. So you and your wonderful DH decided to lift up the couch to check and the next thing you know you've got a mousie-crazed kitty swarm and the mouse is RUNNING UP THE BACK OF YOUR LEG, HEADING FOR YOUR SHORTS so you shriek and wiggle and the mouse goes flying ..... AAAAUUUGGGGH! (My wonderful DH finally caught it with a cardboard box and put him out in the bushes.) The cats are STILL all staring under the couch and I've got the heebie-jeebies
