We'll all probably die. According to the predictions.

Have you loaded up your store with flashlights, batteries, hot food? Do you have a generator there? Hope your customers have bought you out in preparation for the coming storm.

I live in the area of buy a boat. Just be prepared with water and a form of light. Food that you don't need to cook is good too. Canned ravioli, cooked shrimp, fresh or canned veggies and fruit. Lots of wine and books. Not necessarily in that order. Fill a tub with water for flushing in case the eledtric goes out. Cover windows and stay away from them. Cuddle up and talk with SO. Then clean up when it's all over. Good luck.

As long as you don't try to go out during the storm and you're not living in an area that's below sea level or in a structure that's unsound, you're likely to survive. You may have some cleanup to do, you may have some repairs and damage and you'll be inconvenienced for a few days.

Yeah, I live in the totally screwed area, too, and I'll be traveling to another location 90 miles away, also in the totally screwed area, on Monday to clear out my late father's house in his retirement community, wrap up that part of his estate, and have the stuff I'm keeping from his house transported to my house. Should be interesting. I expect to be very damp by the end of the day. It is what it is, and I'll just have to deal with it.

I cancelled a trip from one screwed area to another screwed area. It may be overkill, but I just don't want to get stuck. With the flooding and the downed trees, I don't really want to burn a week of vacation.
Its such a nice day today, its hard to believe what is going to transpire. I'll probably secure a few things that are a blowaway risk. Its the food that could be an issue. I'll be fine, but picky DW may not. At least I don't have a lot of expensive stuff in the freezer this time around!
ETA: I'm charging all my devices, and going to use them as little as possible. I'm also preparing for the fact that we may end up at restaurants more than once. The food in the fridge should stay alright so long as the fridge isn't opened too many times.

I've heard yolu can take trash bag and fill it with water and tied up and lay flat in the freezer. When electic goes off it will keep refrig cooler longer...
WWBG...how do you go to the restaurant in this weather condition?
You can all come to me and we will drink 'to our safety'! P.S. I mean only those from 'screwed' arfeas and annie!

Lol, we're in the "so screwed we hit the liquor store" bubble. I'm going to assume that this storm is all a giant misunderstanding, but I am secretly hoping hoping that Septa will shut down on Monday afternoon so I can leave work early. Priorities. ;D ETA: I just went to Septa's web site and both lines I take are in the "you're fucked" section.

For less then $100 you could have bought a small cheap generator. That would keep your refrigerator going. Maybe not, I am not sure how many watts a fridge uses. For a few hundred you certainly could. A few hundred for the size you'd need to run a fridge...but, try to find one! Everywhere here is sold out already! A fridge will keep 24 hours if you don't open it much and a freezer 2-3 days. We were without power almost 24 hours after a storm this summer and nothing in my freezers even started to thaw out.

For a few hundred you certainly could. a $100 generator would keep a dorm fridge running, not an actual family sized one. Plus I'm sure as soon as the storm was announced, all generators within 200 miles sold out.

Count me in the totally screwed bubble. We live up on a hill, so not worried about flooding, but we ALWAYS lose power in wind storms. Last October it was 3 days. So we know the drill but it really sucks. Not a D battery to be found in stores around here. Plenty of TP and water and food and candles.

I liked the list of pro tips on reddit, especially the ones to get people thinking about their pets. We went outside and brought in anything that might blow away and put everything in the basement up on pallets in case it floods. Finally found our big box of matches that we lost last storm. We have a 10,000 gallon cistern but they are recommending that people without a good water supply fill up their tubs so they can use that to flush toilets if needed. www.reddit.com/r/LifeProTips/comments/1259qw/lpt_hurricane_preparedness_fill_bathtubs_with/c6se2ur

I almost filled up my tub before shutting off my broken pump for replacement. DS kinda laughed and then we just took the pump out. For three days I wished I had filled everything in the house up that would hold water. Hauling all the water in from the tank in buckets completely sucked. Will never make that mistake again. FILL UP THE TUB. If needed, you will be thrilled you knew to do it!

Everyone needs to put the upcoming storm into perspective
This storm isn't Armageddon. The end of times is not here. You need to simply plan for and expect potential power outages. Expect some flooding in flood prone areas. Have enough water and non-perishable food to carry you for several days (if necessary). Secure outdoor belongings inside. Have a full tank of gasoline in your personal vehicle. Other than than that, there is not much more you can do about it. We have no control of nature.
The storm's intensity will diminish. The storm will move on. You will probably have a bit of outdoor cleanup to complete. Life will go on as normal. You will go back to work. Your children will report to school. You will pay your bills the first of the month.
Relax and marvel Mother Nature's show.

My dh is driving either heading to or already in Baltimore. He 'should' be in Chicago tomorrow night. I'm so fucking scared that he will get delayed there. I doubt he would be safe in a truck.
Everyone stay safe as you can. Don't be the fucktard who ends up on the news because they 'thought' they could go out and about. No one looks good when they are soaking wet and standing in water. Just sayin!

But long term power outage should be prepared for... It's easy to do... No reason to be in danger from something preventable or manageable.
We also made sure chain saws are filled and gas cans, not sure if those are on the list...

The only thing I would give more than a passing thought to would be how those around me will act. Most of them can't manage to act like decent human beings on a normal day.
On the other hand we have plenty of food, gas grills and one heck of an arsenal.
I managed to be out of town for last year's hurricane and the derecho in June. We shall see when I get home tomorrow.

lduttinger! How are you about to manage? Be safe! Generators are 3 month waiting list. Thanks for asking TL. I'm fine. Not in a flood zone and did all of the appropriate things to prepare. It all passes and the sun will shine on Tuesday. We're getting it now through Tuesday. Virginia Beach is having some flooding and the roads where I live get flooded at high tide from the Inner Coastal Waterways. No one is out and about anyways. SIL is an officer and has mandatory overtime to redirect people off the roads. Other than that we just wait for it to pass. I have wine and DDs do too!
