I read your Valentine Day post. I'm sorry it was a down day for you.
I don't like the idea of eating once per day because the food hits your insulin system so hard. Your body can grab those calories and save them thinking it's starving. Eating actually increases your motablism.
A good book to read is The Zone Diet which has a lot on how the body functions in relation to food. The book also tells how to balance your meals.
Another idea is eat when you get hungry. If you get hungry in the evening then that's when you eat. I'm an on-the-clock eater. If the clock says noon, I will eat something even if I ate brunch at 11:00 a.m. I will eat at 5:00 p.m. even though I will be eating out at 7:00 p.m. Those are my over doing it days.
What are your plans for summer? The exercise and nutrition can be tailored to that. Buy yourself a Speedo one size smaller and try it on frequently. That is a good motivator. I used to buy slacks one size smaller when I was younger. It worked great.
As for me, my exercise plan paid off big time this past weekend when I could snowmobile and not get too tired or sore.

Motivation Level = HIGHLets kick it Heartemist!! over the weekend down to 254 on Sunday morning after morning exercise!! yea did ok with eating and was able not to over do anything over the weekend true I hear ya with not agreeing to once per day eating - however it did work out for a minute for me. got to stick with what I know that works. Summertime now that you mention it does worry me. I can't stand summertime - I LOVE winter. I NEED to be cold, feel coldness! I run hot so freak'n much Summertime is going to be difficult to maintain exercise - but on the other hand I did start this bet in the summertime so I should be alright. Plus I should be within weight range as well.

Eat five small meals a day, and you can help keep your metabolism up. Breakfast like a king. Lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.

Huh? How can you be DOWN to 254?
You posted on Feb 2 (just two weeks ago - post #104 on the previous page) with a pic of your scale reading - and it read 244.2 lb. That's a full 10 lb that you've GAINED since then.

SL: The photo was from September. The 244.2 scale reading was from when he lost the $700. We were switching to BETA. Z had PM'd me that reading. He then figured out how to repost it. The holidays were a hard time for reduced eating. BUT, being back on track is what counts.
Zman. You sound like my DH. He would lay on the floor and pant during most of the summer. Then we took up golf. Over the years I have gotten a heat issue and have to be active during the cooler morning. I can relate.
I actually put on weight in the summer from inflammation and swelling. I take off my rings so I don't get sausage fingers. When it gets bad, I go stand by the freezer section and soon the restroom is visited.
Have you gotten yourself one of those cooling pillows? I think there is a sheet or mattress pad that creates cooling, also. Other cooling suggestions are put powder on your sheets and/or buy satin sheets. I usually get black satin sheets because they don't stain.
The satin sheets do dry quickly in a dryer. I'm talking 15 minutes. So there is a time and energy saving too boot.

Here is a weighty problem. My GrS has to put on 15 lbs. so he can play football next fall. For years he was in wrestling and was dropping weight this time of year. He has trained his metabolism to do that. His weight dropping was brutal. The only part I was told about was reduce fluids and slim quick before meets. Gramma, me, thinks he will regret this in years to come. I mean the putting on weight.

Weigh yourself after you have toileted in the morning BEFORE you exercise. Make sure you are balanced on the scale. Mine weighs 3 lbs. heavier when I lean forward to look at the number. Also, weigh yourself at night. That will let you know how much you reduce overnight.
In my younger fast metabolism days, I could lose 2 lbs overnight by not eating after 5 to 6 p.m. -----------------
How well did she like the Valentine's gift?
What has the person you lost the $700 to come up with for you to earn it back? Or did you just say phooey and move forward?

Then why bother re-posting a pic that's five months old - and not even an accurate reading for current weight? It would have been better to post a NEW pic with the current scale reading. In any event, he's still gained 10 lbs instead of either losing more or leveling out and maintaining the 244.

Your post is discouraging. The photo was important to our conversation and meaningless to anyone else. Just as this thread is not liked by everyone.
As I said before, the holidays were a difficult time for both Z and me in the nutrition and exercise areas. I am trying to be supportive rather than critical of minor setbacks. I have offered a variety of ideas trying to help out in an attempt to find the long-term solution and reach the maintenance weight goal.
Slow progress is still progress.

Losing weight and keeping it off is a lifestyle change. Zaire seems to be chasing short-term solutions and that never works.

My post isn't meant to be DIS-couraging, heartemis. I'm all for encouragement when someone's actually putting in the effort, following a plan, and sticking with it. Zaire can be as motivated as he wants, but motivation has to be put into action. Right now he's sitting in one place spinning his wheels and getting nowhere. And there's usually an excuse - it's too hot - he's too tired, he's too upset about something, etc. etc.
Setting up a regular exercise routine and sticking with it - same time very day, 7 days a week. Eating healthier. Eat 3 or 4 smaller meals spaced throughout the day instead of skipping meals and then gorging at dinner time. No junk food/greasy take-out. Broil meats instead of fying - lots of steamed veggies and fresh fruits. It's ok to have a sweet treat occasionally, but eating a pint of ice cream in one sitting isn't going to help. Follow a regular sleep routine. Get plenty of rest.
Right now he's making a lot of excuses. It's too hot - he's too tired. He's upset about something.
He's skipping meals, then eating one big meal in the evening and then uses laxatives on a regular basis to try and get everything out of his system. That's not only unhealthy, it's dangerous and counter-productive - and isn't going to solve his problem. As weltz said, it's a whole lifestyle change he has to make in order to be successful.
I'm all for encouragement, but not if a person isn't sticking to a plan or listening to any of the good advice given. If he's going to be resentful or ignore any advice, why bother?

Hello Heartemist thanks for seeing how I see things regarding specific memebers here. I'm currently being watch regarding what I say towards them but they can say whatever they want towards me. has nothing to do with me disagreeing with what they say, but I'm the one approaching being banned. no worries they are powerful and pretty popular, and don't like me or want me to be a part of this community, so they intentionally cause trouble for me in hopes to get more members on there side. Motivation Level = Highafter morning exercise today I am back at 254 the problem is I am looking at my records and see it's taking a little bit longer (just by 2 minutes) to keep the higher numbers on the bike. but I'm still reaching

I did not make the purchase because I don't know if they work as intended, or how well do they work, don't have a close friend anymore to ask her thoughts....ahhh Zaire don't go there - LOL ok well I also found this ...cooling fan Laughing now cause this fan goes flat or flush under the sheets and pulls air from the floor part, shaped like the letter C. If I lived alone I would try that not too sure on price right now. I did purchase these really soft sheets! I had just learned about thread count and these sheets are 800 thread count and are so soft and they are cool as well. Satin sheets I'm not too familiar with - I'll have to look that up oh yea - grocery shopping is a must in the summertime! LOL - in the freezer section all of a sudden I can't make up my mind on what I want and get stuck in the frezzer section just opening and closing doors. Laughing now!

I think they are both on the market actually. since I'm not doing the Ensure anymore - do want to purchase a replacement to the Ensure. I was thinking Slim Fast - but ehhh - not so sure then I saw your Special K suggestion I agree with your suggestion Special K. I remember seeing the commercials for it. I looked once in my grocery store and was not able to find it. But I'll keep looking for it to try that out Thanks Heartemist

Do what you can everyday. I lost my post and cannot redo it so I'll redo later. yea - been there mostly at work with posting. at work I type in MS Word first for the spell check - then copy and paste to post. but now the code gets all screwed up and I get slack for posting message with codes. no worries though I have, found a fix. but yes - I agree back to 6 days exercise per week is a must. already there have been mornings I don't want to and don't want to get out of bed and tell myself I'll just exercise when I get home after work so I can convenience myself to stay in bed. Then fortunately my next thought is what am I going to tell Heartemist? so I get my ass out of bed and exercise!

Motivation Level - HIGHHello Heartemist I will consider motivation is on High still. this morning so funny I was on the bike and just typing away what I want to say to an x-friend of mine! and 33 minutes later, I looked at the clock and saw I went past my 30 minute mark pretty quick. But fortunately I have my records to know I didn't reach close to minimum numbers, so I had to do a total of 38 minutes to make up. Earlier this week I was thinking of my x best friend, here our community, and a problem at work. then looked at the clock 28 minutes had past and I reached high numbers! so I think focusing on the exercising is a good decision I made. I'm sure I can reach my goal this time around - May 18th right

If you spent half the time thinking about your girlfriend rather than this woman who told you to basically get lost, you'd probably have a really good relationship. Let. It. Go.

Well, it's not like he hasn't been told that before --- many times over. This saga's been going on for almost a year now. Spending all his time dwelling on the past and something he can't have, instead of focusing on the today - and his current relationship. Too bad his live-in GF doesn't post here - I'd love to hear her side of the story - or what she thinks about Z obsessing about another woman 24/7 - that is if she even knows. Might be a real eye-opener for her to find out where his priorities really lie.

Now I have forgotten what I was going to repost so we begin fresh. What went wrong is I hit the reply in the upper right hand corner instead of quick post. My weekend of fun in the snow ended up with my repairing a quilt I had given to my Gr.D. I was at my DD's home. She is supposed to be on reduced eating then she brings home freshly made donuts (and hamburger buns) that are still hot from the bakery for breakfast. Bad eating plan for me. Then the food intake got worse from there. My complaint was met with too bad, that's what we are having. Then the cat ate half of the dry Shore Lunch tortilla soup mix I brought. ----------- Time for a fresh start. GrS would use slim quick to meet weight for wrestling. I still don't think Ensure or Boost as a meal replacement is a poor choice. I think the can is about 250 calories. 500 calories for 2 meals and a regular balanced meal at night comes in around 1500 to 2000. Slim fast and Special K have meal replacement shakes. Both of them have complete eating plans. The Spec. K snack bars are 90 calories. Must stop thinking about food. That's my problem. I am thinking about what to fix for meals; where to get the best food bargain; shopping, storing food then preparing meals. --------------- I don't mind the same issues discussion. I think it's a good mental health exercise to journal your ex-friend. I am sure the g.f. knows and doesn't need to be in this conversation. On March 1st, I'm changing my name to Artemis of the Emerald Forest. St. Patties Day. For Easter, I haven't decided my new name. Have a great week. I've been here too long this evening.

Sunday was on the bad side - ate all day! and enjoyed every bite YUM - LOL nervous to look at the scale! I'll take a look later this week. Arms are still tight - Nice! really don't expect to see or notice any changed because it's only been a week. Hello Artemis I am Still focused and that's more than half this battle!

too funny is right! too bad it tasted so good as well - that's what I think - which is why I started drinking that in the first place. and the commercials don't mention anything about age? or not that I've noticed. but that's what my x-best friend said - to stop drinking it because it's for older people. but she is always right so I've stopped But I'm looking for the Special K and will purchase that instead of Ensure. The Ensure has different varieties which they have one for weight gain, I almost picked up when I first started buying them - LOL When I had a best friend I told her joking around if I didn't pay any attention to Ensure making different varieties - I would have purchased the weight gain - wondering why I wasn't loosing weight - LOL

I hope you at least take the time to read the link I'm going to post about Ensure at the bottom of this message, Z. I've said it before in this thread, and I'll say it again. Get off the Ensure and onto healthy eating - lean meats, grilled NOT fried - steamed veggies - no sauces/gravies. Ensure is loaded with nothing much more than water, sugar, and even corn syrup (which is also sugar). That's a major contributor to weight-gain (not to mention Diabetes). Before I was scheduled to go in for some necessary surgery, I was put on Ensure to GAIN weight pre-surgery.
Get exercise - you have to keep physically active too. And that doesn't mean just sitting on a stationary bike - get outside and walk briskly - moving your arms as you walk - take bigger steps. Take up jogging. Do some actual workout exercises instead of sitting on a bike - all that's going to to is exercise your legs - it won't do anything for your stomach or losing weight - you have to actually get up and work your entire body. Do actual exercises - do sit-ups to tighten your abs - body twists - knee-bends - etc. etc. If you took the money you spend on junk food, video games, movie rentals, gifts for your G/F and your cars, you could buy more than a year's worth of gym or health club membership - and actually let their trainers get you into a regular personal workout/fitness routine and they'd work with you and push you to meet your goals.
Right now, all you're doing is sitting on a stationary bike - that's your entire workout routine - that's not going to do much for helping your drop pounds- you need to change your eating/sleeping habits - AND exercise routine.
Here's the link about Ensure - I hope you at least take the time to read it this time - so you'll see how it's not quick fix or magic potion you're looking for - you have to adjust your whole lifestyle - eating/sleeping habits and physical exercise. www.naturalnews.com/002698_Ensure_food_marketing.html

Ensure is primarily used as a supplement for those who are unable to take sufficient nourishment to maintain a healthy weight. It isn't about the age of the person using Ensure. It's about the ability to take in enough calories to maintain weight, or gain weight if required.

Don't use Slim Fast! It makes you fart like crazy and it will constipate you. Don't ask me how I know this but it involved surgery I had and not being able to eat solids for awhile. Good luck, Z and get your motivation level to High again! Angel is doing a clean diet and juicing and she's lost so much weight she's nearly disappeared!
