came up with this idea to lose 20 pounds. a bet with myself with the help of and acquaintances I've known for years. the total bet would cost me $700
Pay Schedule Weight lost: If 20 pounds lost she keeps $0 (returns $700) 243 If 15 to 19 pounds lost she keeps $200 (returns $500) 248 to 244 If 10 to 14 pounds lost she keeps half $350 (returns $350) 253 to 249 If 5 to 9 pounds lost she keeps $500 (returns $200) 258 to 254 If 0 to 4 pounds lost she keeps all (returns $0) 263 to 259
and umm....gave myself 3+4= 7 weeks to lose 20 pounds from 263 to start!
Duration Saturday July 14 to Friday August 31

the only problem I had at being 270 was my look. I didn't like how far my stomach had stretched out. I kept my arms tight with some shape of muscle. my legs are just fine and can carry all this weight around. so... that's pretty much it. so what difference does it make for me at 270 or 240? nothing!

Go get 'em Tiger! YOU CAN DO THIS! (P.S. What helped me personally to lose weight was walking. Even if you only walk 15-20 minutes a day, it helps A LOT!) The only thing I'm concerned about is your timetable. At first, the weight might not come off quickly. For me anyway, it seemed to accelerate AFTER it started coming off....

I've been able to lose 20-30lbs in the last 2 years, primarily due to diet change and increased activity, although I should still increase my exercise levels.. my two favorite activities (derby and swimming) cost more than I can currently afford.. and the time might become an even bigger issue if I get this job in October.
It's so worth it though.. i'd like to drop another 30 before I'm 40.. that gives me 5 years.
I think it's awesome that you've found some way to motivate yourself. I still don't have that, beyond "feeling better about myself."
Good luck!

I've lost 23 lbs since January to May from mostly diet change and not much else. I had surgery in both February & March and wasn't allowed to exercise.
Good Luck Zaire, you know you can do it.

Don't make bets with people to lose weight, Zaire - especially with deadlines attached - It's going to put too much pressure on you - which could backfire if you're too stressed-out about it.
Like everyone else said - a change to simple healthy eating habits & excercise will help drop the pounds. Lots of fresh fruit/veggies, lean meats, grains, etc. - NO junk food or greasy take-out.
And lots of exercise - even if it's just walking. Make a habit of walking for 1/2 hr each day and stick to it. After a week or so, extend the distance or time. If you sit a lot at work, or on your time off, you won't drop the weight as quickly as you will if you're active.
It's a small adjustment to what you're used to doing, if you really want to lose weight - and you wouldn't have to worry about possibly losing money.
You CAN do it on your own, Zaire - just think positive, eat healthy, excersie, stay focused on your goal, and stick with it.

And Zaire you can come on this thread and report about it, and it's FREE. We are pretty good at kicking butt around here. Save your money dude and get yourself a Bosu Ball. That's the only exercise that I was allowed to do. Zaire honestly if you want to lose it take up power walking and eat right.

My doctor is a quack! I have been going to him 2 to 5 times per year over the past 6 or 7 years. He has never remembered what he said or covered at my previous visit. He would tell me the very same shit he told me at the previous visit! Ok finally this year after I started my bet I have been going in to update my chart. as usual he tells me the same exact thing like lines from memorizing a script! Then he goes into his well Zaire you have to change your diet, eat right and lose some weight. Soon as he said that I got REALLY HOT. Angry? Maybe not but frustrated definitely! By this time I have been on my bet for 5 weeks bust'n my ass with exercise and eating less. This was a second devastating hit that it does not matter me losing weight during this bet! I said I have lost 13 pounds since my last visit. My chart has 265 listed and today I am 252. My last visit was Nov 2011! THEN he reads my file and said OH I see. Then I let him in on my bet I started 5 weeks ago not all details but the jest. He said well he likes the idea, but the timetable is bad because people put on weight over years and expect to take it off in days. THAT pissed me off as well cause I can take it off in days to win my bet just have to change diet and exercise like I have been doing but stay motivated! He then said well he did not notice cause my shirt is not tucked in and my big / baggie cloths he could not see I lost weight. What-eve Doc! That is when I lost motivation to win my bet.

If you are going to let someone's comments make you lose motivation then perhaps you really don't have that much. It should be about what you want to accomplish not what others want you to.
Why haven't you found a doctor you like better? I'm sure there are people you know or work with that could give you recommendations.

Exactly! that is what the $700 is for It should be about what you want to accomplish not what others want you to. exactly! Why haven't you found a doctor you like better? LOL funny my x-best friend wanted me to switch doctors. as I told her. I like for my doctor (and dentist) to be close to where I live.

Why now? Good question! This year I hit 270 pounds and stomach was stretched out pretty far. Didn't like my look.
Why 20 pounds? Good question! The number just came to me.

Zaire, it's not your doctor who's the problem. You just don't want to hear what he's saying. As long as you think dropping a few pounds will magically make you healthier and you'll always stay that weight, you're living in denial. And over-medicating the prescribed dose for meds is not only foolish, it's downright dangerous!
And you say you've lost 10 lbs many times before. But you haven't learned how to eat properly, exercise, and KEEP it off, so it just comes back with probably a few more pounds than before.
These bets you're making with friends/co-workers are not the way to go. You have to get it in your head that your exercise/eating habits, and what/how much you eat and exercise is what's going to make you get healthier and lose the weight. And you have to STICK WITH IT. You can't eat healthy for lunch and then load up on fatty, saucy, greasy food at dinner.

OHHH NOOO SL we are gonna better communicate this time around you and your boyfriend always accuse-zin me of shit and put'n words in my mouth. while I was away I picked up a skill from arguing with my x-Best Friend so we are gonna clear this up - ok Zaire, it's not your doctor who's the problem. so we are on the same page SL what is this problem you are trying to bring up? I never said I have a problem with my doctor. I am not blaming him for anything. You just don't want to hear what he's saying. I thought he (my doctor) is saying I should lose weight. I thought he (my doctor) is saying I should change my diet. during my bet I have changed my diet from what I normally eat and Icut down on the amount I normally eat and I am losing weight. so I think I am following his (my doctors) instructions. you don't see it that way? As long as you think dropping a few pounds will magically make you healthier and you'll always stay that weight, you're living in denial. ok not sure what you mean by "magically" make me healthier. my doctor has instructed me to lose weight. co workers and family has said to me I should lose weight. yes I do feel that I should be healthier at a lower / smaller weight. However I do also feel it will not make any difference health wise. every time I'm asked about health problems I say no. Doctors asks do my arm(s) get numb, no they don't. do I get shortness of breath I say no. do I get light headed at times I say no. so the problems I guess most men have at my heavier weight has not happened to me. so what or how am I living in denial? And over-medicating the prescribed dose for meds is not only foolish, it's downright dangerous! ok I just said I doubled up only just before going in to update my chart in the doctors office ok? I take med pill once a day. so it was only that one time in a week of 7 days I doubled up. I went to update my chart only once in a week. also my doctor said it didn't make a difference if I doubled up - so it's not dangerous as you put it. foolish? I only did it to see if it would make a difference in lowering my high blood pressure and in my opinion it did but doctor said it didn't (though before he read my file) and I stopped doubling up after that visit. so I only doubled up 5 times over a 5 week periodAnd you say you've lost 10 lbs many times before. But you haven't learned how to eat properly, exercise, and KEEP it off, so it just comes back with probably a few more pounds than before. yes SL that is true, partially true. I don't keep the weight off cause I don't care to keep the weight off normally. 2-I know I can lose 10 pounds just from changing the amount I eat. but I would stress out and eat how much and when ever I want so yes the weight comes back. yes I know. I choose not to keep the weight off. This bet my myself is to keep me motivated to exercise and eat right and to push myself past the normal 10 pounds I normally lose. I want to see if I can push myself to lose a total of 20 pounds and then maintain it. but because it doesn't matter I normally will lose interest and stop. so this $700 is to say no keep going and then maintainThese bets you're making with friends/co-workers are not the way to go. You have to get it in your head that your exercise/eating habits, and what/how much you eat and exercise is what's going to make you get healthier and lose the weight. And you have to STICK WITH IT. yes SL I agree. as I've said I normally DON'T stick with it because to me it doesn't make a difference and I lose interest to stay at a smaller weight. this bet is with myself. I just asked an acquaintance for help with me to STICK WITH IT as you put it. me in the past holding the money really doesn't matter cause I'm not losing the money. joining a gym and hiring a trainer to lose weight I lose the money and don't get it back, this bet I have a chance to get it back. You can't eat healthy for lunch and then load up on fatty, saucy, greasy food at dinner.

I felt during the first 3 weeks, my main focus was to establish I just wanted to make sure I push past my normal stop period of exercising. I wasn't concerned about losing any weight. During this timeframe I did exercise 6 days a week; trying out different exercise routines to see what I'm comfortable with doing. I also did not cut down on eating and I did eat 3 times per day. This kept my weight bouncing between 260 and 265.
It wasn't until week 4 and 5 I started to lose weight. That is when I cut down on eating.
In week 4 is when I took my first hit for losing motivation from the Project Manager comment, telling me I look fat and I should exercise. That ....comment....I smile now cause that comment broke my brain, nothing matters and this doesn't make a difference.
I had been exercising for 4 weeks and I only noticed that my face has gotten smaller or I felt my face didn't look so round. Then week 5 my doctor tells me he didn't notice any difference.
Then I start to lose motivation, and feel like this $700 is money I've spent to get this far to keep or start a routine of exercising.

in week 6 and final week 7 is slow down time. Week 6 I'm not losing enough weight. like I leveled off? by week 6 I lost 13 pounds down to 250 from 263. but I don't consider this being real weight. I've been to 250 plenty of times.
the real weight to me is getting past 250 into the 240's.
Week 7 GF! LOL I've established a exercise routine starting at 4:45AM, when my feet hit the floor. exercise til 5:30 covered in sweat, then shower and out the bathroom before 6AM when GF gets up. for what-ever reason GF now gets up at...5:30AM!! why now on my last week? and she is in the bathroom getting ready for work. by the time she gets out I'm dry. so now I get up at 5:15AM to exercise.
8 days 7 pounds, oh well screw it ain't gonna happen, I'm done. So at that point, I get half my money back from acquaintance. I was down 13 pounds, into the 10 to 14 pound range and contract has $350 returned. BUT if I can just get to 248! that's a simple two more pounds I could get back $500!
final last two weeks 6 and 7 duration Sunday August 19 to Friday August 31

Week 7 - LOL WOW tough week! weight not coming off.
I made 3 payments over the 7 weeks. $350 on the first day, then $150, then $200. She had all three envelops right there. So I really expected her to say well here is $500 I did get close. well NOPE!
She stuck to the contract. I didn't say anything, I didn't argue my case for $500, I let it be!
I lost - don't be a score loser!
She asked am I going to keep pushing for 243 pounds. I said yea. it still is a goal. I do still have to maintain this weight or rather not go back up that high anymore. She said ok - do you want to do a all or nothing, by September end? Cause I really don't want to keep your money. I was like all or nothing?
Had she given me $500 or if I could have gotten to 248 and my $500 - NOPE wouldn't do it.
Then while I standing there thinking my hand just starts moving to give back the $350, and my lips part to say yea you're on! $700, weigh in at 243, by September 30.
How can I go wrong? That's an entire 4 weeks to lose 6 pounds! pfft. sure - why not and I get back all my money. When I just lost 14 pounds in 7 weeks! so I leave smiling! she has shown she is going to stick to the contract. I have to come up with a new contract all or nothing contract.
Next day I weigh in at 248! Geez now the pound comes off - LOL
Final week 7 duration Sunday August 26 to Saturday September 1 Sunday September 2 weigh in 248, 2 days after last day bet

The morning of last day I weigh in and sigh. GF - first thing out her mouth I knew you couldn't do it. Then she asks how much weight did I lose? I said well 13 pounds. GF said oh - really that's a lot. I would have thought 4 or 5 pounds at most. But 13 is a lot. I'm proud of you and you should keep working on meeting your goal. I said yea, that's the plan. I had been looking forward to the end of the bet. Especially with Labor 3 day weekend! September 1 to September 4 - I was happy! GF made her pasta salad, didn't get to grill but I did have cheeseburgers, sodas, chips, cakes, - LOL all that! so - ok Morning of September 4.....pfft - weigh in at....255! what the ...

Duration September 4 to September 8only a few days of guilt free eating and I'm back up to 255! Don't know why or understand why I put on this much weight so quickly? But I do continue to exercise everyday, but just once per day in the morning - now starting at 5:15AM. Not much motivation happening, definitely none to push myself!

only a few days of guilt free eating and I'm back up to 255! Don't know why or understand why I put on this much weight so quickly. ---------------- Of course you're back up. Did you really expect the weight to stay off without lifestyle changes? When you do something for the wrong reasons, like cash, it tends not to "take".

Okay, Z. Here are a couple of easy tricks. First thing in the morning, before eating, do light exercise like walking for 45 minutes. The body burns weight faster because no food is being burned.
Add one cup of mixed vegetables to every dish you can think of. Pasta salad with those grain carbs is a great one.
Buy 45 calorie 100% whole wheat bread. It's amazing how easily the weight slips off with this. Those thin wheat buns are great for hamburgers. Add extra lettuce, tomatoes and pickles to that burger.
Blot those hamburgers with a paper towel to remove excess fat. This also works with pizza.
Add a low calorie soup and/or green salad at each meal before the main course. A lot of soups are around 200 calories for the entire can.
Oatmeal is great for a bedtime snack. Use I Can't Believe It's Not Butter as it is a source of good oils. Truvia is a great nonaspartame sweetner.
A piece of hard candy or chewing gum helps to cut off a sweet craving.
These are easy changes to make and add up to a healthy lifestyle. If you overdo it one day, get back on board your plan the next day.
You can do it.
