What sport would you compete in? Why?
I'd go for the targeting sports like archery, air rifle or trap shooting. I wouldn't have to spend tedious hours grooming my bod to do my sport like in gymnastics.

200 fly, 100 fly, 400 IM because those are what I swam in college. I was state ranked in 200 fly and 400 IM.

200 fly, 100 fly, 400 IM because those are what I swam in college. I was state ranked in 200 fly and 400 IM. 200 fly . . . . . that's one stroke I could never do. Sooner or later one arm go slightly behind the other, or my feet would separate. I did the 200 breaststroke, 400 medley (either the breast, back, or free in that) and the 500 freestyle. I metaled at state in the last two. I was also on the dive team. But I only dove occasionally as the swim coaches didn't want to give me up to the diving coach. lol Then they ran into a dilemma at one of the meets. . .my twin became sick on the bus on the way to meet . . . she was on the dive team. They found someone to do her backstroke, but they didn't have enough divers to replace her there. (The diving was first as that school didn't have a separate diving pool.) The problem was, I was in 3 swim events which meant I couldn't dive also. So my twin said she would dive (with a little coaxing from me, while she argued ethics with me, and worried about getting into trouble) . . . and I dove for her. They never knew the difference. ;D

So I guess my answer would be swimming . . most likely the 500 if that's an event in the Olympics. I loved that one . . I don't know why . .at first I HATED it. I would groan every time the coaches made me swim it. At one meet I did badly on purpose . . .and they still kept me in it. I guess they knew what they were doing . .. I came around . . learned to love it, and metaled at state with it.

when I was a kid? figure skating, singles. now? ice hockey.
although, I did try to convince my mom to let me try out for (and drive me to) the Junior Luge tryouts when I was about 15. that would have been pretty damn cool. ;D

Beach volleyball. I'm way way too short for indoor, and was always told I'm too short for beach as well, but my boss got a division I scholarship for it and he's half an inch shorter than I am.
ETA - The slacker in me is tempted to say skeet shooting. If the woman who won is anything to go by, you don't even have to kinda be in shape to win at that.

Shotput-but I would need my 18yr old shoulders I couldn't do it today. When I was in high school I picked up a shotput at the beginning of track season and as a confirmed couch potatoe, without practice, without weight training, and without any "shuffle slide" (I would fall off the platform every time I tried) I just stood and heaved it 32feet. I think Olympic level at that time was 52 feet. I coulda been a contender I think...

They are letting some weird sports into the Olympics nowadays, i am waiting for Darts and Dominos to be declaired Olympic sports. I like darts because you can have a pint of beer while you play, and dominoes the most strenuous part is shuffling the dominoes.

Well, since they're the Summer games, that should probably be lawn darts - and make the distance to throw with accuracy competitive.

Football, Basketball, Volleyball, and Handball are in the Olympic games, so why not Golf, Cricket, Rugby, and Lawn Green Bowls, with lawn green bowls, us oldies would be able to take part in the Olympic Games. There is the Olympic games for the young and fit, Paraplegic games for the disabled, so why not Olympic games for pensioners. We could have the Zimmer Frame 100 feet sprint for a start, they do say pensioners are going to be the largest group in the world soon, so it is time more thought is put into pensioners.

Is there Olympic sleeping? Otherwise, I'll have to be an announcer with Malarky. Surely I can't do worse than the slew of people commenting on the crap we just watched. They all go by the name Captain Obvious, right?

I would have to say Gymnastics. I'm not sure which part though, probably the floor,or the uneven bars. I used to fly through the air when I was younger. It was an amazing feeling to go from the high bar to the low bar and then back again.

Jackthelad - the oldest guy in the Olympics was riding dressage. A rather spendy sport for us EEers. The pacer for indoor contact cycling was 60 something; and one of the women rowers was a bit long in the tooth, too. True story - when on a mission trip to Jamaica, I happened in a hut where I heard loud dominoes being played. Usain Bolt was one of the very young guys. He even told me/us to watch for him moving up. More ideas - some Venezuela teens are pushing pole dancing as a sport. Olympic watching is also a forerunner as peeps are glued to their TVs ignoring walking the dog, wholesome meals, house and spouse keeping duties. Olympic sleeping's counterpart olympic insomnia. Olympic "hit the spot" brevity on EE. The one liners that state the root of the issue and solve it in ONE sentence. to all of our actual EE Olympians.
