Hello Everybody! We have Done a Long Term Game for a few years now, which has been littered with various drawbacks. Some have been due to the Time frame of the LTG, Many have been due to the Limitations of the Platform We have been Using.
Well this Year We are going to change things up.
The First change is that we are migrating the LTG to a different platform. The LTG will Now be run over on INVESTOPEDIA, through their STOCK SIMULATOR.
The Second Change is that unlike Prior Games, there will no longer be an End Date - and as such there will be no cut off for New Entries. This Change is being done for several reasons. Primarily so that IBB continues to do what it was envisioned to do - Be a place of thought provoking conversation and ongoing Peer to Peer Education, for Novices and Grizzled Market Veterans Alike.
The LTG's have been a Friendly competition since they were first started. The New format changes only the Platform and Time Frame, from a Short 1 year to an ongoing platform. While this is true, there is still plenty of opportunity for Friendly Competition. An Example would be Bull to Bear, if you have an Idea of where you think the Market may go and why, yet someone else thinks contrary - Which thought will be shown to hold merit ?
The New Style will also allow for Folks to see how Some of the IBB Stalwarts proceed along the path pursuant to their commentary on the Issues of the Moment, Day, Week, Quarter, Market Cycle and Condition. In other words, New Investors can get a general sense of what works and what doesn't & More advanced investors/traders can potentially find new ideas from which to work.
As always the New LTG will allow folks to try out Ideas BEFORE risking any Real Capital. Making Mistakes in a Virtual Environment is a lot better than Making Mistakes in Real Life.
No Investor or Trader is Invincible, we all make mistakes. The Trick is to Learn from our Mistakes, so we can proceed less on Emotion and more on Fact and Experience. This is what makes Investing/Trading as much of an Art as it is a Science. And the Constant Evolution of Learning is what ultimately makes us Better investors and Traders.

I have been running a Portfolio under this banner for awhile. I have not reset this Portfolio. I am only ahead of the starting Cash by $16K (give or take). Our Investing Style is very Slow so I do not envision that where this portfolio is will be of much Issue as the Style of the LTG is Being Upgraded and overhauled this year. I Intend to stick to the Plan we use in Real Life as a basis for this Ongoing LTG. The Only differences will be (A) The Size of Purchases (Our RL Port is Much smaller) & (B) As of Now The INVESTOPEDIA Simulator does not allow for the SALE OF PUT OPTIONS (Which is in RL an Integral Part of our Investing Plan and procession).

I am hoping that the New Platform is more friendly to those who favor Trading. I know that over the last couple of years the prior platform has been hell on the Traders.
The Investopedia Site is free for the simulator and a lot of other stuff.

Cool Rovo. The platform seems to be fairly intuitive like many RL trading platforms for the trades. So the Trades are fairly straight forward. Although I can't attest to the Options, or Short Sales - As I haven't used these features of the Simulator.

Folks when you join, it might be nice if you took Just a few moments and Edited you Investor Profile. It will give others a better sense of who you are, your level of experience and what time frames you look at.
In That section, you are asked for you Name (Required field) - You Can just put in a Single letter for first and last if you are concerned about privacy - also you don't have to give an age range if you don't want.

Just thought I would mention, I noticed that there are 4 folks currently in the new game. I can state who 3 of us are - My Gal, Myself and Rovo. I am fairly certain that it will not post whom the other person is until they make a trade, I don't think that someone could just join and sit in cash.. We had someone try that over at the Old Platform and it never posted them as actually in the game.

Oh I did catch (well my Gal Did) a hiccup in the new platform - it seems that one can't enter a trade before the market and have it fill when the market opens. Now this could be the type of order she put in (Market Order) or it could be specific to the Stock she put the order in on (UTL) - or it could have to do with the Trade Volume Restriction on Stock..
If it is the last it will be an easy fix, but I will have to know if this happens to anyone else before I go fustering with the Game settings..

I did a buy and then tried to enter a sell order, for the same stock, right after the buy filled. It wouldn't let me do it and told me to wait 20 minutes. I know why but since it was a limit order it could have taken the order and held it. Just a little quirk.

Took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about. But I think I figured out what you mean. You entered the Buy for TQQQ - then tried to Sell TQQQ - but hit the 20 min restriction. the Buy hadn't actually filled, so you couldn't Sell the stock..
That restriction Can be changed (down to a minimum of 1 min) but the system reccommends that you don't due to the fact it runs on a 20 min Delay. Says something about "for the most accurate results".

I'm there, finally! Haven't made any trades yet cause I have to figure it out first. For me, a computer dummy, your directions for signing up were VERY limited/basic??? Anyway, I managed to mess with a bunch of stuff and finally figure out how to get in! ;D Today I have a list a mile long of things to get done so probably won't be doing any reading, figuring out the site. Just wanted to let you know that I made it!...can't get rid of me that easy! ;D

I have been . DI, I put a order in for OAS at the open today and it failed to go in. It was only 16000 shares but it only traded 113000 I guess in the first 20 minutes and didn't make the 10% but the stock trades over a million each day. I lost about .60 cents a share on it Not going in. I did buy more later on in the day.

Ty, Yes but if you did the order in real life it most likely would not have filled.

You're right. We will never know with any certainty. I've put buy orders in for 1% to 10% of daily volume and usually it just drives the price up to a penny above my order.

I hav enoticed over the time I "tested" the New platform that certain things have seemed to "hiccup". Such as You set up an order before the market opens and then it doesn't fill - which I have seen be due to no Early Volume (10% rule) or because of the type of Order (I have usually had this happen with straight MARKET ORDERS). I Could adjust the Volume Restriction, and Quote Delay and there is one other - But as I had Said before , the Platform Strongly suggests that you leave those 3 Alone for the Most accurate Results. So Far (from my "test) I am just happy that it has been tracking Dividends. It still is to be seen how the Platform handles a Split (I have KO In the Port there to find this out). We will See... And I have seen how things are shaking with thse who are in and Active at this point - - I didn't think that my Conversion of what I had done would be much issue and so far TY and ROVO are proofing that presumption...

I learned today that you can not cancel a "Market Order" once it is placed. This makes sense but if you make a mistake on the order you are stuck with it. Gee. Just like real life. I can't make any headway in this game.

Ok I know it has only been 10 days since we started up the new Ongoing Simulator, but I want to take a moment to post a table to see if it has what folks want when we post perfomance info here for all to see. I am hoping that we can get performance info posted at least once a month. IMHO posting perfomance info much more than that would be counter productive, as this info changes day to day and thus who is where changes day to day. Player | Virtual Portfolio Value | Overall Return % | | | | | | dinvestor1 | $1,013,359.29 | 1.34% | | DIsGal | $1,001,146.38 | 0.11% | | Beenherebefore | $1,000,000.00 | 0.00% | | uncle23 | $997,980.00 | -0.20% | | Kadee | $997,642.07 | -0.24% | | rovo | $997,005.60 | -0.30% | | clarkrl2 | $983,736.67 | -1.63% | | tyfighter3 | $909,183.73 | -9.08% | |

Help DI!
I tried to make a buy this morning around 9:45am. On both limit & stop orders it tells me there is no volume & the trade can't be done. At a market order it tries to sell it to me for yesterday's price and it had dropped at least 4 cents this morning. What am I doing wrong?
The delay on showing our purchases is also driving me nuts. Had some that didn't even show up in yellow at the bottom of my portfolio until much later in the day....way past 20 min. delay.

? I responded but it didn't post it. Proboards is getting weird.
Anyhow, I am not sure what is going on there Kadee. The only thing I can think is that there wasn't any volume. As to the One that quoted from yesterday, not sure may be it only quotes from the last it has?

Evidently if you put in a limit or stop order but there hasn't yet been any volume it won't sit there until something happens like it would at a real brokerage office...it just won't take it. And the market price from yesterday...it has that 20 min. delay so it hadn't updated cause the market hadn't been open for 20 min. yet when I tried to do the buy.
So this delay thing will put a real crimp in my style of buying/selling since it takes so long for anything to show up and for prices to change.

This is what the Game Management Screen Says when you click Full Description about the Market Delay.
Basically, the quote you get when you place an order is 20 minutes old. So it is not accurate, hence why they recommend leaving this setting alone.
What I have done to try and compensate is this -
QUICK SELL RULE - DISABLED (now you can set a Sell order Immediately after you set a Buy Order and the System should take it)
This had been set to a 15 min. Delay changing it to DISABLED should theoretically offset the inconvenience of the Market Delay Rule. (Note: The old Messed up Game on the Old Platform also used a 20 minute delay, which given how messed up the platform was only compounded the issues)

I placed a buy limit order this morning in the game and it has failed to fill the order. The share price dropped below my order price but the order failed to execute. Strange.

Not exactly sure why that happened to you. Although I can say that we can't expect things to be perfect, after all it is a free resource.
What we are hoping for is a playing feild that is more level than it has been the last few years on the other platform. So far from what I have seen, it is - I haven't had any issues with having Dividends recorded (which was a HUGE problem with the other platform), I think I have had one problem with a trade, but that was one that I set up overnight to execute at market open (which Failed to execute). And aside from that there have been a couple of notations with certain things, at certain times not executing.
So Far it seems to be working better. However to really test the robustness of the New Platform we need more People, more activity and More Corp actions for the system to deal with.
Wonder if Wxyz is going to jump in.
