No spending today - I've been painting on and off all day. Finished the room wall color and the first of two nightstands. The bookshelf is almost done, just some touch up and I need to sand the edges of the shelves so they fit again. Then it's on to painting the headboard.
That and blogging is basically my recipe for non spending. I have plenty of projects and most of the supplies already so it's just about getting stuff done. When painting is finished I'll have more magazines to scan, recipes to try, ceilings to finish lol. Always something!

happy monday, y'all! i hope everyone had a good and productive weekend. i worked for about 10 hours yesterday, writing posts, designing a website and adding some pages to my book. it was busy, but wonderful! i need to figure out how to make that happen more often! honey--i wish i had something to offer (jobwise). but i know that something, anything, will fall into your lap. red--i've forgotten to say this but i LOVE the t-shirt in your FB picture. start--my brain has been going nonstop since our conversation last week. i have one of the books your recommended on my nightstand and i'm waiting on the other one (it wasn't at my library). thank you so much! i was hoping you all could do me a favor. one of my posts is a candidate in a personal finance blogger olympics deal, and the winner gets $1000. i don't quite understand the different heats and stuff but, if you could vote for me, i'd be really grateful. here's the link: www.gobankingrates.com/personal-finance-olympics/what-ive-gained-paying-debt-daily-money-shot/i'm not expecting to win (or even place second or third)--i'm up against some incredibly talented and popular bloggers--but my goal is to not come in last! how's that for thinking big?

Rocky Mtn Saver: 3 NSD, 6 CSD (<$5). I really need to catch up on NSD's... but we're going camping this weekend, so that should help! It's hard to find ways to spend money while in a tent in the woods!

7 NS/CS This weekend was pretty productive, the house actually looks worse, but DH is running the stuff to storage and the thrift store today. (Hopefully he gets them to right locations! ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) ). Tomorrow I'm taking the day off to drive on mini-D's fieldtrip to the new aquarium, so DH & I will have the afternoon to get the house back in order. Friday night we were up until about midnight trying to sort through things. Saturday, I picked up my CSA and then came home to sort some more. That afternoon we went on a tour of an organic urban farm. I thought it was interesting. Mini-D not so much, he liked looking at the livestock, but the talk by the owner was not his thing. That night was my dad's 70th b-day party. Which was fun I got to see a lot of people I rarely see and show off my boy. Sunday- My MIL took mini-D after church and DH & I continued the sorting process. Then I ran to JoAnn's and picked up some cording to make tiebacks for the drapes in our room. I really don't understand why people want bedrooms that look bright and sunny, but now we can make ours look that way. It is the place you sleep and should be as dark as possible for as long as possible. Anyway I got them installed last night. Now all we have left is to clean up the clutter from all of our sorting and purging and we should be ready to go. Also figured out on Saturday that DH had used some really old color safe bleach as laundry detergent and I think that is the source of a painful rash on my hip. He rewashed a bunch of my clothes, I'm hoping the rash gets better soon! Honey- Glad you made a decision. Have you thought about doing quilts to bring extra money? MrsL- Voted for you. AZmom- Hope the leg is feeling better Rocky Mtn Saver- I used to live in Denver and went camping a lot there, where are you going?

He rewashed a bunch of my clothes, I'm hoping the rash gets better soon! Glad you found the reason! It can be frustrating to have something wrong and no way to know what the cause is!! Rocky Mtn Saver- I used to live in Denver and went camping a lot there, where are you going? We're going up Poudre Canyon near Ft Collins. I was a bit worried after the fires up there, but some friends have been up the canyon and say that the unburned areas are just as fine as ever. Our camping area is high enough that it wasn't in the fire. I think we're still under a campfire ban, though. :-(

Honey or anyone: If you could please do an update or if anyone would like to take lead and do this for me pleeeease. Our updates are posted in bold so it could be easy to tally.
See you all in week
~Happy No Spending~

Honey/SES- I need some cooking/canning advice. I have tomatoes, onions and jalepenos. I want to make a taco sauce (not salsa) would the jalapeno flavor intensify when it is pureed and canned? I'm a little concerned that pureeing the peppers will release more of the oils making the sauce way too hot. I'm planning on roasting and seeding the jalapenos first.

Dakota, I have not canned with jalapenos personally, but my friend who does seeds and roasts them first. I seem to remember her saying the heat can vary from pepper to pepper. Don't forget to add some garlic, salt, sm amt sugar, cayenne pepper, cumin, some vinegar and I would add some dry mustard for a bit of flavor and as an emulsifier to bind the sauce together. A small amount of oil might help with texture. Go with your personal taste. Do you have a specific recipe or are you going to "wing it" for your family? I would suggest making a small trial batch to test the seasonings with your family. Let me know what you come up with. I will be getting tomatoes and peppers soon. I like to use taco sauce as a dressing for taco salad. I never thought about making my own, but the friend I mentioned who supplied me with a couple of pints each year moved to Boston.

Today was another NSD even though I need a few grocery staples badly. I'm going for a coffee meeting tomorrow so I'll pick up the groceries on my way home.
I can't wait for the trash pickup this week! I had a full can of recycling last week and someone knocked it over and they didn't take it! So now it's realllly overflowing and I have a lot of papers that need to go out.
Tonight I've been cleaning up the garage, after moving my Grandpa to his new facility I had to bring home a bunch of stuff for storage. I've been organizing it, doing laundry and sorting things that need to go to my mom and uncle. I'm also finally getting caught up on laundry since I have a bed to sort clothes on!
Also over the weekend I got rid of 14 egg cartons via freecycle, emptying out a cabinet in the kitchen. I rearranged all my glassware so now it fits in the cabinet and infrequently used stuff is above the fridge. I've had a few flies coming in and if they really invade I know I'll want clean counters because dead flies are disgusting.

dakota - In my experience I have not found that the canning process changes the flavor of the item being canned, though for some items the texture can be affected a bit.
Roasting the jalapenos should actually smooth out the flavor a bit as will removing the seeds. Not sure about whether pureeing would affect the heat as I have not done this myself.
As SES said, and I would recommend, make the sauce - adjusting the flavor and taste as desired. Oil or a touch of brown sugar will reduce the heat a bit if it is TOO hot for you. I think you will also need to keep in mind that if you are using a water bath canner you will need to process the sauce for at least 30-35 minutes AFTER the water returns to boiling when you add the cans to the water.

mrsl - I'm curious if you make anything off google adsense. I'm debating adding it to my blog but I'm not sure it'll be worth it.

Spend today for lunch, coffee meeting and groceries at Costco. Thankfully that should be it for the week unless I need gas in the car for another 2 trips to Sacramento (aka likely).
Things were good today, I've been really quiet and reflective on where my business is going and making some tough choices. Thankfully my 2 hour coffee meeting was just the boost I needed to get energized again.
Also I am almost fully moved into my room again! Working on painting the second nightstand tonight so that can go back in tomorrow and then it's off to paint the headboard. I am itching to get my photos and canvases back up on the walls!
It was good to sleep in the master bedroom after 5 months but I could not fall asleep until 2am. Good news is that I have company on Thursday night so I better get the guest room cleaned up and ready!

Yesterday was a spend. I am trying for a NSD today. I have a mandatory bus meeting, but it is near home and if I play my cards right I will eat at home. 5/10NSDs ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Rocky Mtn Saver: 4 NSD, 6 CSD (<$5). Ironically, it's been a ridiculously dry summer... except the week I decide to go camping, when of course the monsoons feel like returning! Argh. At least we'll be moisturized well while camping. ;D

thanks to those who voted! as of yesterday, i'm currently in 7th place. only the top 3 move on but my goal is just not to finish last. we'll see what happens since voting in this round goes until the 29th. question--i know that we're much more focused on the finances, but would it be okay if i kept myself accountable to my writing? i have a goal of getting to 10000 words in my book by the end of the summer. i need a way to track so once a week i'd like to post how many words i've written to reach that goal. red--first, thank you so much for both your words here and your comment yesterday. they mean a lot to me. to answer your question about adsense, i've had it since november and i've yet to get a payout (you get paid once you hit $100). i've earned about $16. but that's for a few reasons, primarily because i don't employ a lot of tactics that would draw in an audience who would click on those ads. i don't so much care about the money as i do writing quality posts and cultivating a readership (even if it is kind of small ![:))](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cheesy.png) . i won't trick my readers or use SEO crap just to earn a penny or two. it's not worth it to me.

Yesterday was a spend. DH & I had to pay to get into the aquarium on mini-D's field trip. I understand the school can't pay for all the parents, but it would have been nice to let us know on the driving sign up sheet what the deal was instead of the day before the field trip. Anyway it was okay, glad we didn't have to pay full price.
Rocky Mtn: I never went to Poudre Canyon, we tended to go to Estes/Grand Lake more often or the Collegiate Peaks area.
MrsL: Please do
SES/Honey: I made just regular tomato sauce and got 2 pints and 1 8oz jar. That is a lot of work. Not sure it is worth doing again. I'm thinking anymore tomatoes I'll figure out how to can crushed tomatoes and do that. I used the food processor to puree then I pushed it through a mesh strainer and that took forever. I did make some taco sauce out of canned tomato sauce that got a big thumbs up from the boys.

Dakota--A couple of years ago I broke down and bought a vitamix. It is wonderful for pureeing whole fruits and vegetables seeds, stems and all, preventing a lot of straining. It makes great frozen yogurt, too. If you ever find a used one for not too much grab it. I've never used a Ninja, but it looks like it will do a lot of the same things.

Today ended up being a spend since I couldn't find everything I needed at Costco yesterday (in small enough quantities!) and filled in with a trip to Wal-Mart today.
A friend of mine is coming over tomorrow night so I've been cleaning up the guest room (it was time) and I still need to put on new sheets and the comforter, dust, vacuum, put down the rugs and try to program the alarm clock.
I want the rest of the week (at least to Sunday) to be no spend days.
I'm conserving some cash because there is a pretty good likelihood that I need to spend some money to get my porch looking not terrible in the next 3 weeks. I'm not spending anything until I get confirmation but the New York Times is sending out a photographer and my #1 choice for the shoot is on my front porch. So nerve wracking! I know the interview went really well and I'm looking forward to seeing it all in print (or online, not sure which version will get the piece).
The tentative plan is this: Adirondack chairs from Home Depot $14 x 2 = $28 White table from living room = FREE Bright tubs for flowers from garage = FREE Tall green plant of some sort = $25 ish lots of perennials in bloom, a few annuals = $50ish potting soil from the garage = FREE (or $3/bag at Big Lots) bright pillows for the chairs from garage = FREE Ikea rug from the garage = FREE
Planning calms me down lol, so if I get the call that the photographer is coming this week I'll run out, grab everything I need, move the half finished bench to the garage, mow the lawn and pull weeds, sweep and hose down the entry way and porch, plant everything and pour a glass of iced tea. Then I only have to worry about what to wear, etc.
I do have another location I'd like to shoot at but it's at the discretion of the interviewer and photographer.

Update: 8 NSD 4 CSD
This has been a week of $pends. Some of it was necessary but each day brought some unrequired items with it. Several items were ordered now so that I could be home to receive packages instead of later while I am back at school.
MrsL -- please use the board to keep yourself accountable for your writing. I really need to start using it for MOANs again.
Need to get a move on --- chores to do and places to go. Will check in later today if possible.

Still at 7 NS/CS. Yesterday was a run to CVS for a birthday card for my assistant. She usually takes care of the all b-day cards, so I wanted to make sure I got one for her.
Anyway our house gets listed tomorrow. So for the time being I'm on a spending fast as we need to keep the house looking neat and tidy (a big challenge for DH & I). My plan is to pantry shop for the most part, with just trips to the store for perishables. NO stocking up unless we run out of something completely. I know the sales cycles and if I miss one now, it will happen again in the next 6-8 weeks.
tonight I'm going to tackle the pantry, I need to pull everything out and get it put back on the shelves nicely. It is amazing how a little reorganization can make things look so much better.

Hello from Palm Springs. So far we have managed 2 real NSD! I will have a final tally when we get home. I also had some time to think about my future blogging and have decided to refocus my blog. If you would like, please read it and let me know what you think. lol redruby - nope! My kitchen is dark red (same shade), the guest room is blue and the office is green. I like really bold wall color!
Today ended up as a NSD since my buddy bought lunch. I'm staying in the rest of the day so wooo hooo!
All 3 of the dogs are sleeping calmly and I'm really enjoying the quiet. I'll be doing more painting today and this weekend. If I get the energy I'll even do the hallway ceiling since it's unnaturally cool this last week.

Please keep you fingers crossed for my DM and her siblings- they offered the house first at a lower price to a friend who is a reputable landlord. They offered it to him at $40,000 below mkt since they knew he would have to do work (and he is a family friend) and he is waiting for the bank to approve the loan.
If you check my new thread- it is a thank you to all of you who have been pulling for me with my music. I have gotten into the showdown!
Honey- I had a dream last night that you posted about a new job. I hope this wonderful job gets from my head to you in a timely fashion.
I am still getting everything in order here.
Sold my car to my father. He gave his car to my brother. Now I have all of this extra money in budget that I can put away (I am going to help DM pay her car off early first- since I will be driving it).
