hmmm... I am pretty good at not watching trainwrecks except for Horders. It is not something I watch very often but every now and then on a Sunday afternoon or something I will start flipping channels and come across it. They always seem to show several episodes in a row and I end up watching 2-3. I just can't help myself. Oh, and Judge Judy... LOVE Judge Judy!! Also, got sucked into Downsized a couple of times even though the episodes I saw drove me nuts (especially the mom) I would sit there an watch it. Not even sure if that show is still on or not. OMG, yes - DOWNSIZED!!! I watched the whole first season while yelling at the TV. I also watched the second season, but they seemed to have gotten a little better by then. Still nowhere near where they should be, but better. I remember the wife saying "oh well we could move out of Anthem, but then it will be a 45 min commute to work for me and that's too far". WTF?!?!?!?! I have never had a commute shorter than 40 minutes!!! Is aversion to commuting more than 20 mins a regional thing?! Most people around here commute between 30-60 mins to work. I think I saw maybe 3 episodes the 1st season and in every one of them the mom drove me nuts!! In one episode she wanted to start a family boot camp business in the neighborhood even though she had no training and no certification. Then one time she was spending all this money on coffee drinks so they got a fancy coffee maker and she couldn't figure out to make coffee. She kept just randomly pulling recipes out of her ass trying to make it work. One of the kids finally looked up a recipe online and made it right. I was sitting there like duh?? why didn't you just do that in the first place. Then I saw the 1st episode of what I think was the 2nd season and then the dad was driving me crazy wanting to buy a house when they really couldn't afford it. That was the last one I saw...

Most people around here commute between 30-60 mins to work. You'll probably find that aversion in most of what you call flyover country. We talk about people who commute for an hour or more as if they are insane. If I got a job that was 45 minutes or more away, I would move to be closer to it. That's how big my aversion to commuting is.

Personally, when I had a commute (on country roads) of ~30 minutes, I just accepted it as Life. But now that I have one of ~10 minutes, I'm not sure what it'd take to get me to go back! I consider 1/2 hour a long-ish commute. ;D
ETA: Both of those commute times were in OR and then Colorado. Not quite fly-over country but certainly not NY or LA!

I still can't narrow it down to 5 all-time favorites. I love so many old shows.
Are there any other game show fans?
I loved Password, Truth or Consequences, and $100,000 Pyramid.
There's a few old,old sitcoms I really liked - Bewitched, That Girl, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Dick Van lesbian Show, Leave it to Beaver and Soap.
LOL at how proboards changed the name of one of my favorite old shows.

I loved Soap. I need to go back and watch them again. A friend of mine has the box set of Good Times. I used to love that show. I watched them a few months ago and realized that show is actually pretty depressing. I also loved What's Happening and Alice.

Wow. Probably over 80% of the shows named I have never seen even a single episode of....
I could probably narrow it down to about 20. Near the top would have to be:
24 The X-files The West Wing The Star Trek franchise Seinfeld
I do want to throw out some love for a couple of almost criminally under-rated shows.
The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (one season) was an absolutely wonderful show for those who could get into it. And Sports Night (two seasons) was one of the most quick-witted, fast-paced, and well-written shows ever on TV. Police Squad (six episodes) was great too. Truly a shame that they ran for so short a time. On the bright side though, it makes owning the DVD sets a lot cheaper.... ;D
Now if only they would bring Seven Days out on DVD.

I liked the West Wing too. I'm not sure what my fave part of the Star Trek franchise was as they all had their characters. Spock, Captain Janeway, most of DS9, etc.
One of my top 5 would be Babylon 5. Extremely well-written, conceived and acted.
One show I wish really had lasted was one I don't even remember the name. Might have only lasted a season. It was about a NYC guy who moved to the LA/Hollywood area and the culture clashes. The episode I remember best is when the CA folks all called each other to come home and sit in front of the TV to watch the cops do a car chase. I also loved him being schooled on how to navigate the shallow lets do lunch paradigm out there. It made me laugh a lot and figured it taught me some of what I should know if I get to end up there.
I liked Sports Center too and probably some other gone too soon TV shows.

The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (one season) was an absolutely wonderful show for those who could get into it. We loved that show when we were kids! It was one of the few shows my dad watched and we watched it with him! I completely forgot to add one of my favorites: MacGuyver!!!
