Less than 60 cents per cup, although I buy the K-Cups online in mass quantity. So, it might be more like 65 cents per K-cup if you buy the regular boxes. I will say that you can get Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons like crazy, and they carry the K-Cups, so it might bring down the price.
That is only the variable costs. If you add in the fact that the machine is like $150, I figured I broke even (vs. Starbucks) around the 6 month mark. It will be more if you put cream and sugar in your coffee.

Thanks Thymye! I'm trying to be realistic about how many things we can actually change and I just don't think right now is the time to take away coffee from dh, so the upfront cost might be worth it.
That or I'll stock up on the starbucks via's for a month or so.

I see the full size keurig machine for under $100 all the time now. I have the mini and paid around $75 for it. My first one was defective, but I returned it to Kohls and reluctantly got the exact one and have had NO problems with it. You can find deals on the kcups all the time. I never pay full price for them. Either BB&B as someone already mentioned, or even grocery stores when they are on sale and I have coupons. I've even found them clearances at Walmart for as little as $1 a box.

At BB&B I saw a little mesh filter for a Keurig coffee maker that you can use to make your "own gourmet coffee" as they put it. It cost something like $5 and I would think that that pays itself back pretty fast. Less garbage too, so better for the environment

I'm going to get YNAB this summer and I'm so excited!!!!
We also try tonkeep the convenience food in the house. It is just silly to purchase a $1.50 Gatorade at the gas station when you can get them at for 25 cents at costco and keep them in the garage next to the car! Or at least that's what I tell my DH.

I haven't used it once in the year and a half I've had it. LOL! I've heard they don't work all that well, but, I guess one of these days I should try it. I was at BB&B this weekend and saw little disposable filters, like 5 in a package for $4.99. Maybe that's what you saw. The reusable filter is different (and more expensive).

The reusable keurig cup is a PITA, imo. We have one, and it brews fine. But cleaning it is a bitch. Although, its metal, so I end up throwing it in the dishwasher to clean it (which I am sure is not good for it). I don't think the disposable k-cups would be any less environmentally friendly than getting disposable cups each time you stop by STBX though. And if you pop the foil cap off the top, you can throw them in the recycle bin (well, I do anyway, not sure if you are supposed to or not).

What ever happened to coffee beans? Grind them, add water, push "start" and you have coffee in about 10 minutes.

No it was the reusable all right, but I might have remembered the price wrong. It was definitely less than $18 though because that is something I would have remembered

I find it amusing that people assume that eating out is eating crap. Or that eating in is not eating crap.

To me, the whole purpose of the Keurig is easy/convienent. If I want to deal with cleaning a filter - then I'll just use a regular brewer.
LOL - Totally. But, if her husband balks and says the Bux is easier, the Keurig is a compromise - not quite as cheap as a regular coffee maker, but much, much easier than anything else.

I live out in the country. When I leave the house at about 10:30 in the morning to go riding then hit the stores in town, I pack a lunch and drink just as I would if I were going to work that day. I eat right after I ride and when I get to the stores I'm not hungry.

Another vote for the Keurig! At the beginning of the school year, I started having to work at 5:30, and my husband didn't leave til 7. He usually made the coffee. I fell into a nasty habit of stopping by our fave coffee shop on the way to work... Ok, this is totally the dumbest reason, but I just couldn't handle grinding the beans in the morning! The noise totally freaked me out when I was the only one awake! Also, we have pretty different tastes in coffee, so with the Keurig we can get K-cups that we each like. We also got the reusable filter. Admittedly, we are coffee snobs, and our coffee line item is pretty large. But like others have said, it's a good compromise!

I can't seem to fight the narcissim, so I've decided to lean into it.

I couldn't care less about the 'latte factor'.
It's my 'Manhattan cocktail bar factor' that I have a bit of trouble with. ;-)
