you're almost right in downtown Miami. I can't speak for hotels, the only time I've ever stayed over in that area was a Best Western in North Miami Beach. it wasn't horrible, I'd probably stay there again. Collins Ave, I think. as far as restaurants, just stroll down A1A and stay away from the handful of chain restaurants you'll pass. most else is fine. have fun

Happy, it's not really walking distance, but the new park is about 10 blocks from all that awesome Cuban food on Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street, btween 8th and 22nd Avenues. You are also not really walking distance from anything decent food-wise in that immediate neighborhood. If you can get over the MacArthur Causeway, head east and go over to South Beach. Don't bother with the main drag; look for the off-the-beaten path places on Washington Avenue, one block off the beach.
I've eaten at a great Roman-Jewish restaurant on South Beach called Hosteria Romana on Espanola Way. In fact, that little street is just a great place to stroll.

Stay on south beach - that have plenty of cool art deco hotels. Or Fountanbleu hotel on Miami Beach (not south beach though) is old time 1950s luxury hotel, semi-famous. No chain hotels (probably not any there anyway). I would not stay near the baseball stadium.
Note: I grew up in Miami, parents still live there so we do not stay in hotels.
Have fun!

We went to Miami a few years ago on our way down to the Keys. I can't remember the name of our hotel but I'm pretty sure it was in South Beach.
We ate lunch out one day at a fantastic pizza place, outdoors, with parrots flying everywhere! In fact, I think that restaurant was actually a recommendation from here!
DD LOVES birds, so it was great! We don't usually see anything but pigeons flying overhead where we live LOL.

Awesome, happy! Next time, with a bit more warning, DH and I could get down there do a meet up. I have not been to Miami for awhile.

It is indeed an amazing place, Zib. I remember going there with the grandparents, back when we were still tourists. It's still fun to visit and just walk around; lots of history still there.

I'm not that kinda gal, Arch.
But then again, you would know all about the thrills of South Beach, right? ;D
And by thrills, I'm not talking Joe's Stone Crab.
