Yes. I am sure with all his education he could use it in other ways. I just think that a mistake and setback is no reason to abandon the career he trained for at this point. If after some time, he can't get a job because of this hippa violation, then he will definately have to reconsider.

Well, here's an idea. Next time you go into the hospital, put on a shroud and have someone drive you in in an unmarked car. Then, only go by an # or letter, like Patient X or something.
Or people could just respect the !@#$ HIPPA laws. Hmm. Decisions.
Of course, there should be precautions in place and respect for the confidentiality and privacy of everyone. My point is that there is no absolute and total privacy.
That doesn't mean you just throw caution to the wind.

I just said that Hippa only goes so far. But, whatever. Yeah, throw caution to the wind. Yup. That is what is said.

As far as the OP, can he look for something where his education would be valuable, but it's a different setting from the one he was in? Does that make sense? Surely some people have the education and knowledge to be a doctor but they don't make their living as a practicing physician. I know it wasn't stated that he's a doctor, just an example. What else can he do with his education?
Isn't Sanjay Gupta a medical correspondent for CNN? There you go. That would call for a person who had enough medical knowledge to translate the jargon and understand the procedures.

If the solution is as easy as "he should just find another job", what would be the purpose of the OP?

I think if he can find a company in his field willing to take a chance on him, he should. But as Mid says, if it would be that simple then I don't think wrongside would be so worried about him.
Speaking of which - any update, wrongside?

Speaking of which - any update, wrongside? I work in clinical research and suspect that we would probably shy away from hiring him. Our group cannot afford the repercussions of another case of poor judgement.

I think Kathy Reichs stopped being a forensic anthropologist to write novels and produce Bones, though.

Update -my friend got a job! He was offered a 6 month contract position at an out-patient clinic nearby -$100/hr. My friend has DEFINITELY learned a painful lesson. Damn. At $100/hr, can I learn that lesson?

Nice, wrongside! I'm happy for him that he found someone willing to take a chance. Did he tell them what happened? Is this a "trial basis" kind of gig?

That's great, I am impressed that he told them the truth. It would be hard to lie about something like this, and he'll feel much better having faced up to it and moved beyond it. Karma for him via you

I agree with Rock it. He needs to own up to the mistake. Trying to justify it or minimize it will just make it worse. When it comes up state that he knows he messed up, but he took this training course at his own expense to retrain himself and he realizes now how serious it is.

Phoenix - sounds like he's doing that. He told the new company about what he did and persuaded them that he was worth a second chance.
wrongside, is he planning on doing any training classes or anything to show that he's turned over a new leaf?
