Made shortbread with mine last night. Likely overkill to use the KA for something like that but it just happily does the mixing.

More pepperoni rolls today. And, just got The Mixer Bible in the mail. Should be fun.

Thanks! That sounds pretty simple. I've never made my own bread. I always end up using Rhode's frozen bread dough, which is actually really good, but I should try my own. I've made pepperoni rolls with the Rhodes rise n bake rolls. They are required tailgating food in Morgantown. I let the rolls rise, stuff with pepperoni and cheese or whatever I want, let them rise again and bake.

With the KA, homemade dough is really easy.

I have nowhere to put a KA. I have two tiny countertops and one outlet in the whole kitchen. It is on the someday list but for now I have no room for it or the money to buy one.

Yes. It is something you leave out all the time otherwise it wouldn't be worth the bother.

I bought one of these about five years ago and then sold it to a friend a year later. I didn't like how the mixer attachment didn't reach the bottom of the bowl. Plus, I feel like I mix a whole lot faster by hand and don't have to worry about lifting the "head" or having to dodge the mechanism to add another ingredient.

My KA has a pouring shield with a chute. You set in on the side of the bowl and you can easily pour ingredients into add. I have some recipes for homemade pretzels and sugar cookies i want to try this week.

Yes. It is something you leave out all the time otherwise it wouldn't be worth the bother. I designed my kitchen so that my KA had a place on the counter, or if I chose, in the extra heavy duty lazy susan. Everyone else I know of keeps cereal and other staples in their lazy susan, I designed mine to be between the stove and sink to hold all my cool toys and be sturdy enough to hold my KA.

Yup, good point. They are fairly large and heavy. It wouldn't be like pulling out a hand mixer.
I don't find the pouring spout to be much use.

I made a batch of yummy pepperoni rolls. The folks at work loved them. Also made sugar cookies, chocolate chip, a couple of pizzas and a couple loaves of bread. This KA rocks!

I have nowhere to put a KA. I have two tiny countertops and one outlet in the whole kitchen. It is on the someday list but for now I have no room for it or the money to buy one. This is my problem. I would have to give up my microwave, coffee pot, or toaster if I wanted the mixer and I'm not willing to go without any of those. I use TD's when out here, it does an awesome job with bread.

I have the larger one - where the bowl rises up, and you don't have to lift the lid. Mine was a wedding gift from my sis & BIL, and I know they got it from QVC when it was a daily special or whatever they call it. I also know you can sometimes find them at Tuesday Morning, and Amazon has some good deals occasionally on them as well.

Bed, Bath and Beyond have good prices if you add in their 20% off coupon.
As to the size, it depends what you plan to do with it. I have a Professional 600 which is great if you are doing bread as it's got a motor with sufficient power. Cook's Illustrated gives the Artisan a good score but the online reviews I've seen haven't been so positive if the reviewer uses it for bread making as it struggles.

I have the Artisan Kitchen Aid too, and I love it. Besides cookies, breads, whipped cream, etc., it's fantastic for mashed potatoes. I throw a couple of garlic cloves in the water when I boil the potatoes, and then put the potatoes and garlic into the mixer with some butter, salt, and milk. It's strong enough to do that job with no problem. add a little dill or rosemary to kick the mash up a notch!

So, far this KA is one of my best buys. I made wheat bread, cinnamon rolls, pretzels, white bread, cookies and brownies and lots of other stuff. It is soooo handy!

I made homemade ice cream yesterday. I put the bowl in the frig and filled with ice water. Then, i simply used a pint of whipping cream and a can of sweetened/condensed milk and vanilla and some chocolate chips. I used the whip attachment to whip to soft peaks. Then, poured that into a tupperware to freeze. Pretty easy!
