Make sure the mother sees the check or else that book could end up in a stack and not find it for months or years! Glad DS has great friends! That's always a relief!

Red- Good idea- I hadn't thought of that! Either that or big sister will hope the book to read it to little brother and throw the check away

Sad now. (Luckily) someone mentioned a pregnancy clause for cruising, and I'd be just over the max allowed weeks. So we'll have to wait until March to start. Boo. Was really hoping for a Halloween baby. Now I could end up sharing my birthday, which would be fine. Just disappointed. Muttley, you're on your own this month, sorry chica! But at least this way I can enjoy girls weekend to the local casino the first weekend in March! (Always look in the bright side, right?)

Yesterday was a spend. Picked up my engagement ring from getting a prong fixed and a new screen protector for my phone. Today should be an NS (since I don't count FSA funds as a spend, I had the prep work for a crown done today, I'm still numb on my left side). Tonight DH has to work and my parents are picking up mini-D so I can go to a pilates class. Today is a really rainy day, we actually had thunderstorms this AM, such weird weather for February. Last year this time we had over a foot of snow.
Red- Sorry you have to postpone TTC at least it is for a good reason.
3cats- I'm doing the same thing. Trying to spend at least 15 mins additional a night cleaning and straightening up things around the house.

Goal: 15 NSDs
Update: 2/15 NSDs
I have an interview for a temp job that is supposed to last at least three months next week. My experience is only kind of related to the position, so I'm not sure what my chances are. At least it's a nibble.

red- I'm sorry- but I karma'd u in hopes it might make you feel a little better. They have a cruise you can earn for sales with CH and they give people the opportunity to cash out for cash because we always girls (or families or single dads) who are pregnant and are too many weeks or not allowed to go or the baby is too little or it's too expensive to buy in for all their kids and they can't find a sitter for that long.
Hoping drama calms down b4 MommaBear, Aunt, and Uncle kill other Uncle. Keep fingers crossed for DB he has his name in at 6 apartments.

Today was a spend day as I picked up lunch (was starving at 3pm!) and also paid for the PO box for the next 6 months. One less thing to worry about after my trip.
Working hard on the proposal and work for the new, major client. I am so grateful to be working with my coach next week and get some help on this because it's so intimidating! blue eyes has been so incredibly supportive too as I freak out lol which helps because I've had a few friends who are really not helpful.
HOW did I miss that the founder of Mint is in my network? Uh, hello I swear that I'm losing my mind.
Also, trying not to get cranky tonight with my parents for having the worst guest room set up ever. I always bring an arsenal of technology to charge before a trip (ipad, phone, computer) and they have ONE plug in and I have to move a bookshelf to get to it. And the bookshelf is full and overflowing with crap. Sigh. I am so grateful not to live like this anymore. I even had to give them an alarm clock for Christmas for the guest room.

update; 5 NSD, 0 EOD. I am still using the gift cards I purchased during the last year. I have been using them since the week before Thanksgiving and have not spent any money on groceries since then. I am going to purchase the same amount this year and do it again. I am also going to add gas gift cards to the lot. Since I don't spend more than $100 on gas in a month, I think I will get gas cards totaling $200 for the month.

Update: 4 NS Day
My last post was eaten. I have been trying to get a few things done around the house this weekend. I managed to get a few things out to decorate for Mardi Gras. I like the season, love the music but I don't do the big crowd things. Therefore, my MG experience is very limited -- just the way I like it. Next weekend begins the first major weekend of our annual madness.
Will try to check in when I can.
Have a good week all.

Just a quick check in--busy weekend
3-cats if you get gas cards beware of expiration dates and the charges for delaying the usage of the card. I had one once that charged 3% each month the card was NOT used!!!

Ugghhh! My temp crown came off tonight. I've tried to put it back in twice now, but it keeps popping back off and my dentist isn't open tomorrow. I think the inside of the crown cracked, so it won't stay on. I guess I'm on a liquid diet between now and when I get it put back on. I tried eating yogurt and it popped back off. I think tomorrow I will call their answering service and see if they can refer me to a dentist is open.
3cats- that is great that you've been able to use your gift cards for so long. That is a nice way to get a cushion going.
Today & Friday were NS's, yesterday was spend.
Financial Peace- Hope the interview goes well.

dakota; the "cushion" went for a new computer, car repair, and faucet repairs. Still have some left but not much. It is a start though.

Update: 3/20 NSD
Waited until Saturday to get the baptism present for DNephew. While I was at the store I picked up cards for DH's birthday and for valentines day. So I am ahead of the game with regards to those purchases.
Sunday was a NSD- drove to the baptism. The parents paid for us all to have brunch afterwards. Was so nice to get to visit with everyone.
Did not watch any of the super bowl yesterday except for the half time show and that was by accident. My movie ended and I happened to be on NBC when I shut off my DVD player just as they announced the half time show. It was ok. A little over the top narcissistic with the whole "We L.U.V Madonna" but oh well.
DH B-day is today. He wants to maybe go out to dinner tonight so I will try to set something up. If we go out today will be a spend.

2 NSDToday will be a spend as DH is taking the car in for service. Our foster dog arrive Friday morning. He is the sweetest old gentleman. He's a Beagle/Terrier mix and it's kind of freaky in that he looks like a perfect cross between our two- except he's got longer hair. He's 8-10 years old and super calm. He mostly just wants to be wiht people. We put his dog bed under my desk and he spend Saturday lying there at my feet while our two slept on our bed. You can see pictures of him over at erinshanendoah.com/lifebypetsWe watched the Super Bowl. I like football and the commercials, so we always do. Our friend Jen (in my age group 20% of females are named Jennifer/Jen) came over, but that was it, so just the 4 of us and the 3 doggies. The roomie made Asian style bbq pork and we had dim sum (love having Asian grocery stores near by) as our Super Bowl meal. Then watched The Voice. After The Sing-Off, it's my favorite singing show. Excited to see Smash tonight. I do love Katherine McPhee.

3NSD
Yesterday was no-spend. We watched a lot of How I met your mother, I worked out, then we cooked and headed over to our friends' for the Super Bowl. Me against 7 others. Getting sick of being the loner but that's what I get for moving to another state, I suppose. I prefer it when we don't care who wins. Makes me less of a pariah. Oh well. Not going to change me.

Red - I hear you on being a fan of the team that is not the local team. I'm a Cubs fan in Cardinal Country. It does suck (especially since they have won the world series twice since I moved here). DH is sick. He and DS missed Kindermusic again (they've only gone once in the 4 weeks of this session). We're hoping they can make it up on Tuesday, but not really counting on it. I started running again yesterday. I'm training for a 5k on March 31. Hopefully the mild winter will hold and motivating myself to go run will be relatively easy. We're actually suppose to cool off this week. I am officially down 9 pounds since September 1st. It has been slow going, but I am getting there. Another pound and I will be in my "acceptable" range. Spending wise, we spent a little much at Walmart this week. Not too bad, but still need to watch it next week. We also went out for lunch on Friday (used an old Visa Gift card) and for brunch on Saturday (we were out of oatmeal, eggs, and milk in the house). If we don't get DH's 1099 this week, I'm going to give that company a call. We need to get our taxes done.

muttley - great job on getting running and losing 9lbs! I think I've gained them! Are the Cubs and Cardinals rivals? That's what makes it really bad. If I were, say, a Diamondbacks fan or a Twins fan they wouldn't care. But the fact that it's Sox-Yanks, and Giants-Pats, makes it so much worse. I don't REALLY care about football, but still can't root against them, you know. First-world problems, right? lol. Hope DH feels better soon!

Gotcha. Yeah. It blows sometimes. Unless the Sox win, but then I'm celebrating alone too. I usually go on Facebook to bond with my homestate folks at times like those.

shan- Howie is sooo handsome. I too read that article in Slate you mentioned. A shame that qualified families are turned away. IMHO.
DMs truck is done. She will pick it up on payday. The mechanic told her that even though it has been an inconvenience for her, DB could have been killed had he been in his car.
I can't say I have necessarily been good on my NSs this month. I have been picking up odds and ends things.

update; 6 NSD, 0 NEO. I so wanted to get a pizza tonight for supper but I didn't. Then I wanted to get a hoagie but I didn't. I am having Hormel chicken and noodles and a peanut butter sandwich. I don't have any milk so I am having iced tea.

Yesterday was a spend- planned and budgeted for but still a spend. Had a great Birthday Dinner for DH at a local italian restaurant (not a chain) with BFF and her family and my folks. Dinner for all 8 of us was just under $100. Seems like a lot but it was great food and DH didn't want presents so that's all we spent on him for his b-day. My BFF is close to my entire family and my dad and BFF's DH get along really well. So it was great conversation and just a peaceful celebration. One of my friends from HS (who I lunch with from time to time) was celebrating her DH's b-day at the next table with her family too. So that was a nice getting to visit with them too. All in all a very peaceful day capped off with a night of watching the Voice (only reality competition shows we watch are Top Chef, Project Runway and the Voice). DS doesn't watch much tv with us but he will watch the Voice, Top Chef and the Walking Dead so quality family time after dinner

hello, lovely ladies! i apologize for, once again, going MIA. i'm a terrible support system as of late. mainly because i'm so busy. my writing is going in a really positive direction AND i've just decided to launch a graphic design service. i have a couple of clients who are letting me experiment on them (for free, of course) and if that goes well, i can start charging. so, if any of you have a blog/website (or know someone that has a blog/website) and wants a new header, logo, button or favicon and is willing to let me use you as a guinea pig, please let me know. i'm giving away my services for free to about 5 clients or so. other than that, i'm getting a lot better with controlling my spending. i'm mostly spending on blog/business stuff so i'm choosing not to count it. especially the two blogging conferences i'm attending. particularly the one in denver. where shanen will be my roomie. you can all be jealous now . muttley/red--i'm a mets fan amongst a sea of phillies fans so i totally feel for you guys. fp--good luck with the job!

Shanendoah - Your foster dog is so cute!!! I have a beagle, so I am very partial to beagles and beagle mixes. I would love to foster dogs, but that is not something I can consider until we buy a house.
Mrslynch - Good luck with the new graphic design service. Unfortunately, I don’t know any guinea pigs to send your way.
Mizbear - Are you still having a lot of trouble with your DM and her house manners? Is she still sick?
My interview is tomorrow afternoon. I am pretty nervous about it. It is for a position that is similar to my old position but a step or two above. I wouldn’t know what I was doing going in (which they want because it’s a temp job), but I should be able to pick it up quickly because of the experience I do have. Hopefully I can convince them of that.

Yesterday ended up being a spend after a commute from hell (made my top 10 worst commutes list, if not top-5). I didn't get home super late, but waiting with hordes of people as some subway lines were down, trying two stations, waiting some more, and finally giving up and going the opposite direction to get my commuter line further out (and just barely making the train there) it was exhausting. 2 hours from when I left work to when I got home when usually it's 1.5 easy peasy. I just didn't want to cook, so we got Chinese. The one positive is I picked a "healthy" meal instead of general's chicken (my fave). So hard to strive for both good money goals and good eating/health goals. That's tiring too.
mrslynch - glad things are going well! I don't have any guinea pigs, but I'd be happy to offer feedback on designs! I miss doing graphic design. and yikes, you've got as bad a situation as we do! I really have just been feeling sad and lonely about it. I'll never be surrounded by co-fans when the Sox win the series, unless I ditch all my friends and go to a Sox bar by myself. I literally have no one to root with me. And it makes me feel like I'll never really feel home here in NY. I need to brainwash my kids... I seriously think the next time the Sox are in the World Series I'm taking a week off of work to go home or to Boston and crash with friends there. I miss Boston. We don't go there nearly enough...
My BFF is getting married in May, and I am MoH, and her mother has completely shut me out of planning the shower (when technically it is the MoH who throws it). I'm trying not to get too upset, because I know she doesn't mean anything by it, just thinks she is supposed to do it, but I had a theme (Celtic, as bride and groom are both Irish), invitation ideas (mom bought some), decor ideas (she doesn't care), etc. I get a call last night that the mom and the godmother are co-hosting, I can bring some balloons if I want to help but I don't have to. And I feel like I got that call only because BFF knows I'm a little upset at the whole thing. I LOVE event planning and have been looking forward to this one for years. And me and the mom had chatted in the fall and I thought we were co-planning. It's stupid to be upset but I don't have a lot of close girl friends and this is the last shower I thought I'd get to throw. Plus she has three sisters, does her mom really want to do this all for the fourth time? At least I don't have to pay anything... just frustrated and sad. I guess that's my theme this week. blah.
financialpeace - good luck on your interview!

mrslynch! (bear runs across void of internet space and tackle hugs mrs l) If my blog got more traffic, I would offer my blog up- but I don't think I'm a good candidate.
fp- yYes- DM is improving.
Have lots to tell you when I come back. Going to a music competition tonight.

mrsl: I've commissioned a 12y/o budding artist to design my new logo for me, otherwise you know I'd be jumping on that bandwagon. Unless you want to design a logo for my pet blog... My other two don't get enough traffic for it to matter much.
fp: He is adorable. We have a Beagle and a Terrier. And Howie is just like this perfect mix of the two of them physically- it's actually kind of creepy. Your situation definitely has to be right to foster, but there are all sorts of volunteer opportunties at shelters like walking dogs or cuddling cats, or even taking pictures for petfinder and other adoption sites. Good luck on the interview tomorrow.
red: I'm a Raiders fan in the land of Seahawks. It is very odd here because Seahawks fans apparently feel there is a rivalry with the Raiders. For the Raiders, if you're not the Chiefs or the Broncos, it's not a rivalry. So local fans get worked up over games and I'm just happy I have the chance to see the game. (We have a group of friends who have season tickets, and DH and I often get offered tickets to the Raiders game.) And while it's not a rivalry, being a Raiders fan does mean I hold a special bit of animosity toward Brady and the Pats. Enough that DH (who is not a football fan) can recognize a discussion of the tuck rule in it's earliest forms and run away from it. (Happened at school last week apparently.) As for the shower, why does she have to have only one? Now, I didn't have a shower at all, but my father's family is Southern, and my Aunt had like 10. I had two good friends get engaged shortly before I moved to Seattle, and since I knew I would miss all their pre-wedding festivities, I threw them a Pantry Party (where the gifts are staples that could go in their pantry) before I left. Let Mom and God-Mom throw this party. Then work with the other bridesmaids (if there are others) and/or your group of friends and plan another fun kind of shower or event. You want to celebrate this event for your friend. Unless she hates the idea of a second gathering, why should you let yourself be limited?

mrslynch - I just pm'd you - if you still need a test subject - I need help (in many ways - but we'll stick w/graphic design!)
Job query - i have an interview offer for a job I applied to last September (gov't job) - but the truth is I have no real interest in the job and would make a leap outside of gov't much more difficult. I just feel bad passing up a chance to go when thinks are so carppy at my job. thoughts?
