Pennsylvania school district bans fur-lined boots

POTTSTOWN, Pa. – A suburban Philadelphia middle school's ban on a popular type of fur-lined boots isn't about fashion, it's about cellphones.

Pottstown Middle School parents were informed of the new ban on the unlaced boots on Wednesday.

District community relations director John Armato tells the Pottstown Mercury students are using the boots to hide cellphones and bring them into class. Current school policy allows students to bring their phones to school but requires them to be kept in their locker during the day.

Armato says the ban targets the unlaced boots with fur or faux fur lining made by footwear companies including Ugg. It goes into effect Monday.

Principal Gail Cooper says students can still wear the boots to school, but must remove them before going to class.

Exactly! I've always thought about asking these people where they work so I could bring them some "junk money" and see how they like it. However, money is disgusting and dirty and don't want it anywhere near the "goods"! ;D

Not all Uggs are ugly, IMO. I've got these. I wear them with my jeans in the winter when it's wet out. Love 'em, and they're very comfortable. I've also got a flat pair of Uggs high boots with Mongolian lamb (I have a Mongolian lamb coat). They're great for snow and ice.

Yes...I'm telling you women actually pull money out of their bras. Thankfully, I'm not the one that actually has to handle money in these places. I just get to watch the clerk or teller's face and see their disgust.

As far as "junk money"....that would be a guy's version of putting money in his boxers or briefs for safe-keeping and pulling it out to pay for something. Similar to bra money and just as disgusting.

Sorry but I have a real problem with this rule. Your punishing all children for the actions of some kids. Why not just take the cell phones for a 3 day period or even a week? If I was a parent we (the school & I) would be talking.

And the reason they have to keep their phone in their lockers is because the school instituted that rule because some kids wouldn't stop texting during class.

Why don't they just formalize that schools are prisons and go from there?

Fuggs - I always hated the look (except for apres ski, which is where they belong) and have bought them for my kids but never for myself. So last year I broke down and bought a pair for myself. OMG I never want to take them off!!! They are like the MOST comfortable slipper and the sheep wool is soft and keeps your feet warm but not hot. I will wear these everyday until the temperature gets over 65 degrees again :-)

Schools could more sensibly institute testing center protocols for exams. You walk into the room, put your phone in a bag with your name on it, it gets put in a locked bin. It is re-issued back to you at the end of the test.
