honey - I got the package today! Thank you SO MUCH! my best friend is going to be so very jealous Also, the picture on my photo blog today is for you : theonethousandproject.wordpress.com/2012/01/11/harvard/Yesterday was sucky, I had a few bummer moments and bad news that kept me awake so I emailed Blue Eyes. Nothing better than getting a sweet email first thing in the morning! Feeling better today and focusing on the positive. I finally got enough mental clarity to write for my biz website and have my newsletter going out today. Also joined a mentorship program with students from a local high school who want to be entrepreneurs! Excited to work with them

spruby; My computer is in the hands of an expert, not DS. He is good but this called for someone else. I followed instructions for repair on line and it ended up just a blank screen and nothing else. I tried putting the start up disc in and still nothing. It will be at least another week before I hear anything. update; 9 NSD, 1 EOD. Will try ti get in here on Friday because I work Thursday and Saturday.

3 MOAN days so far! and many NEO days Not so sure about the NS days though. I believe I have 2 (Monday I was too tired and yesterday I know I didn't spend). Possibly more but my brain is shut off at the moment lol.
money - thanks! I try to stop by when I can!! Although I've been rather spendy lately... bad red!
spruby -what's your blog again?
Book recommendation: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. fantastic true story. And by fantastic I mean somewhat tragic but very well-told.
sheila - glad DS's conference went well. I'm sure you're glad to have him home!
shanen - sorry MIL is still so up and down. I hope you guys get her on the road to recovery soon! And I'm so glad DH is okay, and you have such good insurance. That's always nice when stuff happens.
QOTW: I ususally sit down and look over all my financial spreadsheets, goals, etc for some motivaton. As though by just LOOKING at my budget I will be able to better stick to it.
azmom - DD sounds like me in elementary school, and it was because I was bored out of my mind. I got in trouble for talking and goofing off a LOT because I'd be done with my work in four seconds or feel it wasn't worth it because it was so easy. Not sure DD is the same reason, but it could be.
Finally made my freelancing website!! ipsumeditorial.com. woot. Blue's friend is going to code a "real" website because I don't have the patience to make wordpress do what I want, but this will do for now!
honey - smart shopping! I was going to recommend jcpenney if you didn't have any luck. I usually do okay there.
start - feel better already, gosh! lol. Hope you had a productive weekend.
So my grandma's cat died on Friday night. His name was Jake, and he was 19 years old. He's been getting thinner for over a year now, and we've all kind of helped keep Grandma in denial about it. As of Saturday, my grandparents didn't want anyone to call or stop by. They are really distraught over it, which I totally understand. I just hope it doesn't affect their own health. Need to pick up a card to send them now a bit of time has passed. Jake was like my cousin - I pretty much grew up with him. Plus it's a reminder that my childhood cat isn't far behind (she's 18). Also, my stepbrother found a tiny kitten last week and brought him inside and fed him kitten milk and snuggled him in a blanket and brought him to the vet and he was so cute and today he passed. he was just too sick by the time they found him. Poor Mr. Pickles. At least he was warm and loved at the end. I almost cried at work though. I really thought the little guy was going to pull through... so a depressing post from me, sorry.
mrslynch - have a great time in Disney!! You deserve it!
start - awesome about the mentorship program. I really need to find some way to volunteer/give back. I'm such a selfish wench. and nice blog. I had a photo blog. I should update it someday. I should start taking pictures again someday. Sigh. Always someday...
Jennifer Hudson was supposed to come to my WW meeting today after her book signing (it was at the WW office). Well she left early and we were stuck with her super fake leader leading our meeting and being all chipper for the video guy who was there. Annoying. And disappointing. Expected better from JHud. Plus I gained a smidge. At least I have time to work out again! Freelance project was turned in Monday, on time, only due to me getting no sleep Sunday night. Next project's goal: time management.

mrslynch - I have blog questions - just no time to write them down! I have 4 hours carved out on Saturday - DH at art class - so expect a PM Sunday! mrslynch - I'm sure you know all of this - but if you have time at WDW - go to the Animal Kingdom resort in the evening and you can see the animals with night vision goggles, plus they have a fire pit/rocking chairs and the Boma buffet is great. Jiko the main restaurant is even better! Best place to see the electric light parade in Magic Kingdom is the front porch area of the customer service building at the front of the park (Parade either begins or ends there). If you like fireworks and dessert - they have a special fireworks viewing option at MK in a covered area with a dessert buffet (extra fee of course). ohhh have a great time! let me know if you want more random tips 3cats - ouch on the pc - fingers crossed it is an inexpensive fix redwagon - blog is www.virtualtraveladvisor.com - so sorry about your grandparents kitty honey - great find on the skirts - how are you doing?

Hahahahahahahaha ... I did a quick search for a plane ticket from here to Chicago midway for next week and for the 3 of us to fly it would $4000 without fees. oh lord. yep, we'll be driving (which we probably would have been anyway).
Ok, so why am I looking, bc my great uncle is on his death bed. So.....i thought I would look at flying, but since it wouldn't be direct it wouldn't save any time vs on the road. Plus cost 20x (or so).

Hey all- I've figured out how to get NS days, get a stomach bug. I was on the elliptical at the gym Tuesday after work and realized I needed to get off and get home asap. Luckily I made it home before I got sick. I basically spent all night Tuesday in the bathroom and slept all day yesterday, I still haven't eaten and don't feel like it yet. So I've had 2 NS days and I'm pretty sure Monday was too.
Sorry I'm not more talkative, just not up to it right now.

OK, I'm on a computer now and not my phone. Sheila - for your 1000 post! dakota - Feel better soon. Thanks for all the congrats on the raise. I immediately sent it to savings. I also upped the amount I send to my variable expense fund from $10 a week to $20 a week. Friday night I was feeling pretty good about everything. I realized at just $10 a week I had doubled my savings in 6 months in my variable expense fund. So, I felt good about that. Then...I don't know what happened. DH and I were talking and I really started feeling like crap about myself (please do not blame DH for this, he reminded me about how awesome I am, etc, etc). Anyway, I spent the weekend in a MAJOR funk. After talking to some friends and thinking through some things, I made the decision that I am going to speak to a counselor. DH's medical problems just have not gone away and after 5 years I've apparently lost my ability to cope. So, I made the phone calls, but my appointment is not until Feb 2nd. Then Monday, my Great Uncle went back into the hospital. Back in November he went in with aspiration pnemonia and they did some tests and basically everything he swallows he has a chance of aspirating. Well, he recovered from the pnemonia, although he was still aspirating what he swallows and it was just a matter of time before this happened, but he went back in with pnemonia. They decided not to give him a feeding tube. He is unconcious and will probably not regain conciousness. He is like another Grandpa to me. Growing up, I would spend a week during the summer with Grandparents in Iowa, a week with my other Grandparents, and then a week with my Great Aunt and Uncle. They never had children and my Uncle's side of the family was huge and my aunt is really close to her sister (my Grandma). So, they just naturally have been included in everything in our lives. So, now I've got 3 hard deadlines at work staring at me for the next week and have to figure out how to get everything done in what is likely a condensed time frame.

Muttley- thanks for the karma. Sorry you have been in a funk. It's so frustrating that you can make a decision to make an appointment with a therapist (a huge first step) and then find out you have to wait 3 weeks to even get into see them. Blurg. Hugs to you re- everything including your Great Uncle.
MK; Hugs to you too. Add in our sudden hit of cold weather and it sounds like you are ready to just chuck this week out the window and try again next week.
Dakota- Sorry you have been ill. Hope you are feeling better soon (both physically and emotionally).

muttley - so sorry to hear about your uncle. hugs. and sorry you've had a rough week, but I'm glad you recognize you need/want to see a counselor. I hope they are able to help you sort through things.
dakota - oh dear! sounds miserable!! Blue went to the gym Tuesday, too, and felt sick after, although it seems to have been fleeting for him. What is it with gyms?
sheila - yay 1000 posts!
mk - that really stinks. :-(
So I think the next step for me is to join the Editorial Freelancer's Association. It was recommended to me by a few of my freelancers, and is apparently full of job listings. Dues are $145 for a year, or $260 for two. I'm thinking I'll do one year to start, then I can reup in two-year increments if I find it worthwhile. Members also get discounts on courses offered, and they offer some copyediting courses that might help me hone my skills. They are not nearly as pricey as the NYU ones, so that's good. Plus, they are not set times, just materials back and forth online I can do anytime, which is nice. I could take the money from my freelancing taxes fund if it turns out I don't need to send it to the IRS (which I shouldn't, it should balance out with our refund). I feel like it's the right move, but I'm still leery of spending money. Blah.

Well as much as I hate it today was a spend. I should have done all these errands on Wed but I was much too tired from being sick. All I picked up today was rocks for growing my tulips indoors (so excited about this project!) and some candle wicks.
I should get out tonight and pick up a few groceries that I need but that's going to depend on how I feel.
Mom is coming up Saturday to deal with some concerns we have for my Grandpa. He's been evaluated for hospice (not ready yet) and the home where he lives is pushing for a reevaluation.

DM is sick so I am kind of on my own getting things done right now. They are waiting to get the culture back- but are pretty sure she has a MRSA infection. She is confined to her recliner, the couch, etc for now.
So I am giving her menial sit-down tasks.
Can we rewind- about 22 years.

12/31 NSD
I have to post this tonight because tomorrow I actually have to spend money. I think this is the longest I have ever gone without spending money! Of course I did pay the monthly bills--but nothing else, not even groceries!

Wednesday was a spend. The soup I brought from home for lunch exploded in the microwave, the explosion was so big, it knocked over the container, spilling about half of it on the microwave tray. So after I cleaned up the mess, I had to go buy myself lunch from the cafeteria. I spent under $5, and I'm calling it grocery budget (not my allowance) because I didn't just choose to buy lunch, I was kind of forced to. (I was jungry, so skipping lunch didn't seem like a good idea.) Thursday was a no spend., taking me to 5 NSD Don't know about today, but the next three will all be controlled spends- Saturday- Birthday party for a 3 y/o. I expect to pay for parking Sunday- Critique group - morning Starbucks Monday- I take one of my oldest friends out for a pedi and lunch every MLK day for her birthday

Update: 10/20 $0
Yesterday was a NS but today and/or tomorrow will be spends for sure. Have to pick up a pair of goggles for the Boy as he starts raquetball tomorrow and they require him to have goggles. We have a $10 gc to the sporting goods store but I expect them to cost more than $10 so I will have to pay that difference. I want to make a couple of stops at the used bookstores/thrift stores for a couple of books I am looking for. Taking Miss Pants to see the limited time release of Beauty and the Beast (Disney version) in 3D this weekend too. Should be fun. Haven't gotten to hang out much with just her since her little brother was born. This will give her mom and dad a short break since she is a ball of energy on the weekends.
This is shaping up to be one of those days that I hope goes by VERY quickly. Having a terrible time staying motivated today that's for darn sure.

Sheila - oh many you dredged up some repressed memories of seeing beauty & the beast on ice when I was a kid! we had friends who didn't have children until late in life so they borrowed me or my brother for weekends sometimes. I loved it and I know miss pants will like seeing the movie!
WHEW finished my big task of the day - I spoke on a telesummit teaching systems for business owners this morning and it went really well! 5 pages of content and I have bonuses to share as well. Excited that it went well but now supremely tired.
Grandpa- I went to see him yesterday and it's apparent he had a stroke between Christmas and New Years. Mom is coming up tomorrow while he gets reevaluated and then we'll be addressing problems at his care home. I'm not happy with them at all. So hoping the weekend will be a no spend and we can eat at my house but if meetings go late or something comes up it may mean getting lunch or dinner on the go.

start - SOrry about your GRandpa. Hopefully the meeting with the care home will go well.
Thanks SHeila and Red. This week was pretty low on the spending scale. Tuesday the boss paid for lunch and today I had a gift certificate that had to be used by Monday. So, I still have my whole allowance a week later. The heat in my office is not working today. Seriously FREEZING even with my coat and hat on and the space heater on full blast!

Sorry I am not talking much. We are almost done moving- 3 big trips left. Then the cleaning. DM has a massive staph infection and they are waiting for the culture to come back to see if it is MRSA. She may have to go in the hospital.

My great uncle passed away last night. We are waiting to see what the funeral arrangements will be. It looks like we'll either be leaving Sunday after church or after Ben has Kindermusic on Monday. The funeral will either be Tuesday or Wednesday.

Muttley- sorry to hear about your loss, it's difficult for sure.
Grandpa- our meeting was okay. The second hospice worker also said he wasn't ready for that level of care and he's already regaining strength from the stroke. We're pretty sure he's going to stay there but consolidate from 2 rooms into one plus the bathroom. It'll make it easier for him to move about. We're also going to redo some furniture so he has one tall dresser, a hospital bed and a stripper pole. Yes, a pole for him to pull himself up out of bed, aka stripper pole. It's going to be a rough transition regardless but at least he doesn't have to leave the home he's been at for five years.
Out today so it was a spend, I got some books on trade at the bookstore, a few crafty things and now meeting a colleague for coffee. Lots to work on to make sure grandpa can transition smoothly in the next few weeks.
