"we should be getting cold weather next week" Define cold. I was kind of wondering that myself but then decided I really don't want to know.

I decided on my compromises for dinner today. There is table cloth on the table, but I didn't iron it. With the new micro fiber table cloths they don't wrinkle like my Grandma's linen ones. I used the good dishes but the every day silverware, no hand washing silver for me after dinner. AND the big one, I'm wearing jeans, I refuse to dress up today, even in work slacks. Things are coming together, which I knew they would. Thank goodness this isn't my first time doing a holiday dinner. My carving, mashed potato stations are set up with appropriate utensils, the butter is on a plate ready to put on the table, jelly and cranberry sauce are in their table ready containers, so it will be easy to set them out when the time comes. The asparagus is clean and ready to go. In a bit I will peel the potatoes and get the thickening ready for the gravy.

Good for you!! I'm still in my pajamas. I may or may not bother to get dressed today. I thought it was supposed to be niceish out, it ain't. I need to set my swing upright and pick up a chair that blew over. Joy. Funny you should mention tablecloths Sharon. I have fond memories of our tablecloths on holidays. We had woven ones that were older than me and every year when I was bored, I would sit there and start coloring in the little boxes on them. And every year, when he figured out what I was doing, my father would smack me. Ah, memories.

No tablecloth for us tonight, though I will use placemats and linen napkins and nice wineglasses. Should be quiet enough to eat on the patio, since the tribe next door (four boys) went to grandma's house for the day.

Whew! We ate too much, and I didn't even make all of the side dishes we usually have. At least we've got some great leftovers for the next 2 or 3 days...

It took freaking forever for the turkey to cook, 6 hours for a 14lb bird. That put our dinner 1 1/2 hours late. DD finally fed DGS and put him down for a nap. DGD came in and started finishing what was left on his plate so we added some jello and few other things. She started dinner early and then finished with us. DGS slept all afternoon and they had to wake him up to get ready to go to the other grandparents house. The kids are going to swing by here again on the way home and pick up some leftovers. That isn't an unusual move, they usually put the kids in their jammies too and then head home. DGD are a whole piece of pie by herself. She started from the top down, first she ate the whipped cream, then she ate the pumpkin, and then the crust. I couldn't get her to try a bite of the lemon pie I was having. ETA: With a two year old at the table I should have left the table cloth off. She is very careful when she eats and tries very hard to not spill but even so you can definitely tell where she was sitting.

Sharon, can you get one of those vinyl tablecloths with the felt backing for when the grandkids come over? My Mom used to have those, and I got several when I had young kids. Great for cleaning up spills. We made too many pies, so we shared with the neighbors.

Slept in today, which felt good, right now it is a balmy 23 degrees, brrr. The forecast for Saturday evening calls for a wintery mix and then Sunday and into Monday is a chance of freezing rain. UGH.
In a bit I am going to start working. I decided to work today and save the day of PTO since I'm not a black Friday shopper and I can work from home.

Good Morning Kids! Any of you going out to shop during Black Friday? If I do, it'll be online. Unfortunately, I will have to go to the grocery store, but I'll wait until later today. We're almost out of eggs, and a couple other things.

"we should be getting cold weather next week" Define cold. I was kind of wondering that myself but then decided I really don't want to know. Cold for us...in the 40s on the coast, and 30s inland. Not cold by the rest of the country's standards, I know . Cold enough to turn the car heater on at 4:30 am on the way to swim practice. And yes, we have only outdoor pools here. Heated, at least, but not kept covered in off-hours. But it's good running and cycling weather. And the state's citrus crop actually needs that cool weather to grow well. The other crops have issues in freezing temperatures, but we should not get below freezing next week.

And good morning peeps! So rare for me to be home on a Friday (I am actually off next Thursday, Friday and the following Monday, but that is for the Senior Games, so I will be in and out of here). I am running laundry and doing freelance and really just trying to relax a bit. We are going out later for our annual coffee date and may go look for a new vacuum cleaner (I am considering the Shark Apex) and I also need to get my sunglasses fixed. We will do small business Saturday in the town north of us -- they do a fantastic job of it.

Well, THAT was interesting. I just had a telemarketer call me. She was talking to someone else, in what sounded like an Asian language, until she realized I'd answered the phone, then she spoke in English. I didn't stay on the phone long enough to find out what she was selling.

Today was a frustrating day. I had received permission from boss to work from home today even though it was a holiday. Logged on this morning and found we had big issues so instead of using the quiet time to get caught up on things I ended up with a ticket into IS. We got everything resolved but I gave up around 1pm and logged off for the day. Decided to then put up Christmas lights since the weather will be nasty starting tomorrow evening. I was testing the light strings and on the last string it went pop and I blew a fuse. Of course I didn't have any more fuses for those strings of lights, so off to Home Depot I went. Home Depot didn't have any fuses in the size I needed so I picked up a new string of lights since the lights string that was bad was at least 20 years old. I get the new string of lights on the house and go to add the next string (an older string that still works) and the plugs aren't compatible. The old string has one prong on the plug that is bigger and the new string can't accommodate that. I will go back to home depot tomorrow and get another string of lights.

Good morning everyone. We had Thanksgiving dinner yesterday so plenty of leftovers for today. Only gained 1.6#. Still losing weight daily since CHF diagnosis. Sharon, sorry about your bad day. I used to spend hours keeping our lights working. A new 100 bulb string then cost $2. Spare bulbs and fuses cost more. Also every string came with 2 spare bulbs and a fuse. 42* and overcast. Rain and wind expected around midnight and tomorrow.

We had a nice day today. Did the Small Biz Saturday thing next town north, including coffee and cake at a favorite small coffeeshop. Also got my sunglasses fixed while shopping. Came home on a back road and found an old produce stand I used to go to is not only still in business, but has expanded. Stopped and picked up sesame oil, apples, carrots and a pile of local corn, all for under $10. I stripped the corn and it is in the freezer already. Also found that a small seafood market I love near the produce stand is still in business, AND they added a few outdoor tables. I put this on my list to go back to for a visit. It's a hole in the wall place, but the boats bring seafood fresh to their back door.

Got a few chores done tonight, like washing the kitchen floor and tidying up a few things. I will grocery shop tomorrow. I realized tonight it's a good thing I get a little obsessive about checking things when it comes to pre-competion preparation. Turns out one of the venues for next week's senior games (cycling) was changed to a totally different location in a different county! It's not a bad ride -- about an additional 30 minutes or less. But for folks who just go by the original brochure and don't check, or don't know traffic in the new venue area, it will be a problem. Wonder why they had to make the change a week before the games. Could be a lot of things, most likely a road construction issue or other events at the original venue.

Good Morning Kids! We dragged ourselves up for the early service at church this morning. DH's start time is different at work today, so it is sort of throwing us off.

Those tacos look good. I am tired of turkey. Turkey isn't something I particularly like, don't dislike it, just don't want it more than once or twice year.
Today I bought a fake tree. For years I have been steadfastly in the real tree column but I am learning from my Mom how I don't want to be as I age. It was getting harder and harder for me to set up a full size tree and yes DSIL would help but by having a fake tree they don't have to help me at least for a few years, hopefully. My mother views making any changes to her lifestyle as just giving up and getting ready to die. I would rather make some changes and have the kids come to visit because they want to instead of creating an obligation (and resentment) of we have to go help Mom out. I also ordered in another string of the Christmas lights. The two home depot stores in our area don't have any more and the clerk at the store today said they wouldn't be getting any more. It cost a few dollars extra but they will deliver it to the house. It will be nice to have lights all the way across the house instead of halfway.
