"Living to spite your ex isn't a great way to live, IMHO"
Very wise and good advice. However, living to spite a few random assholes is a joy that I cherish deeply.

Being mostly nowhere close to home on Christmas I've missed out on most of the stuff that I'm seeing. This year my mom wants us to drive down & see my cousin (not doing well with several medical problems) at her house. Four hours there & 4 hours back. So we will end up driving 8 hours to visit for 2 hours (or so). Not my idea of fun. I also will get to visit my least favorite aunt (& she is the only one I have & still comes in dead last). Just fricking great. Oh & I have to get someone to come over & feed, medicate, & let the dachshunds out. Big production for 2 hours. Well maybe we will get lucky & hit a skunk on the way.

I'm seriously considering this for next year. We went to Puerto Rico last year in August, and we might go back for Christmas/New Years 2011. I've always wanted to decorate a palm tree and get away from all the insane people we're related to.

This is the very reason I live 300 miles from the nearest realitive. They NEVER come to see me b/c the road only goes to their house, not away. My DH, kids, and me have been having Christmas at home alone for 14 years and it is pretty nice. I say take a trip and make yourself happy!
