Benched 1.6 times my weight last weekend. Starting to close in on the 2x weight, haven't been there for 20 years. Had to take a few days off while I was working out of town last week, but should be back at it again tonight.

I did three sets of 175lbs on the leg press yesterday. I'm avoiding squats due to knee issues but they seem to handle leg presses OK. I also did 2.5 miles at 10 mins/mile. (I'm working on maintaining a 10min/mile pace and adding distance only when I can do it at 10 min/miles). I actually could have probably gone a little farther, but I wanted to lift afterward so I didn't want to max myself out. Bought five pairs of size small lace thongs yesterday and they are actually a tad big.

Thanks MM! In full disclosure, the brand comes in XS so my "smalls" are probably really "mediums" but I'll take it. ;D (And yes...I know thongs are WAY out of fashion nowadays...but I hate pantylines so I'm stickin' with em!) Fortunately DH doesn't mind.

Yeah, I bought some boy shorts that were supposedly "non panty line." They TOTALLY leave panty lines! Now I only wear them when I'm on my period.

That's too bad MM, but at least you're going to the gym tonight. How many days until your race?

13 mile run today. Felt pretty good. Hopefully the baby will cooperate and I will be able to run next weekend. I don't think I am going to be able to hit my goal of 1:40, but we'll see. I have a feeling it will be more like 1:55.

I still workout...I need exercise or I just feel BLEH. There have been times when I'll skip a few days, but usually I can't take missing too many. Last month I set a goal to lose 20 lbs by the end of the year. I tried just watching what I eat along with my regular exercise, and it wasn't going all that great. I dug out my old Weight Watchers books and started keeping track of points. Weight loss for me is always S L O W, so I try to stay in my daily point range without including activity/exercise points. 6 lbs down, 14 to go exercise had gotten into a rut: morning w/o M-F (Pilates 2 days, The Firm 3 days), evening w/o M-F (spin 2 days, weights 2 days, walking/running 2 days), running and/or spin on Saturday, running and weights on Sunday. Right now my morning home workouts are Pilates. In the evenings I either walk or run. 2 nights a week I take spin. Saturday mornings I run with a friend, Sunday I do whatever workout I feel like doing. I usually do long treadmill runs or sprints on the treadmill on Thurs, Fri, and Sunday because the gym isn't crowded and nobody is waiting to get on the machines. I'm a really slow runner. I can run at a 10 min/mile pace, but not for very long. I did manage to beat out all the other old, slow runners and take 1st in my age group at the last 5k I ran . The next 5k I have scheduled is on the 15th...and it's a hilly one. Oct 22nd is the one I set a new PB at last year, so I'll be interested to see if I've improved. I am getting better run times than I did the last time I was running regularly (10 years ago). That's mostly due to my running partner who I met in a Boot Camp class. She's the one who got me able to run a 10 min/mile. She was on the Jamaican Olympic track team in 1964 and 1968. She's a sprinter, so she can really push me for faster mile times. Then I work on distance runs on my own.

Hey everyone! I want to start tracking myself somewhere to keep me accountable. I haven't worked out in a long time and I am starting back today. I need to lose about 40 pounds. I went to see a nutritionist last week and have been following the diet she gave me. She also stuck some magnates in my ear. Since last Wednesday I have lost 5 pounds. So something is working. Now I am going to add exercise. I am curious to see how I weigh in this Wednesday.

Grats on the weight loss Peach and thatchica! Peach I am not sure how you could fit in two workouts a day, but I am amazed! Good work on the running, margarita. How do you handle the changes in weather? I see you have a treadmill, but does that compensate when you can't go outdoors?
I have been doing the weight machines and the elliptical at the gym 3 days per week and have gotten over the initial weeks when I wanted someone to just shoot me and put me out of my misery. It actually feels exhilarating now! I haven't been able to lose any weight but I have lost an inch and a half to my waist and an inch my hips and thighs, so I like to think that I am accomplishing something.

Skari, last summer when I first started lifting weights I lost two dress sizes...but only five pounds. It is amazing how lifting reconfigures your body shape. Great job!

Good updates, I've been away from home for almost three weeks and haven't been to the gym. I was out a week for work, then took two weeks out west chasing funny colored birds. I ate like a pig, but walked my ass off. I hit the scale this morning for the first time and ended up loosing five pounds. I'll try to get back into the gym tomorrow and start the bulking up process over again, now where is that peanut butter...

Last month I felt rushed at the gym but got all my workout done. This month, I have had to split my routine into 3 or 4 days. I've lazied off my evening sit ups/pushups. The weather has decreased golf and tennis so I transitioned out of that calorie burning without the increase in biking and precor. Then I am enjoying too much food.
The culprit is distractions. It will be mid-Nov. before the gym routine gets back to normal. I can usually stay the course through the holidays.
I plan to return to x-country skiing this winter and know some peeps I can go with. My knee was a bother last winter. They get inflammed easily. Outside Mag. has some knee exercise remedies I plan on trying.

good job everyone...i'm kind of jealous of you runners...i;ve never been able to run for exercise...when i was younger, i could not get the mindset to do it...now that i'm older my right knee won't cooperate... i'm on vaca right now and there isn't an anytime fitness where i'm at so running on the beach would be great, if i could... mrs.h, maybe you could share some of those knee exercises...after my last surgery, i've been able to build my quad back up but when i try certain things, my knee will swell with fluid... hey peach, not bad for an old lady... ;D

Thanks, K here's some info on knee exercises for you www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness_articles.asp?id=363 I don't know what your typical exercise routine is, but I read that if you have knee issues to only do lunges stepping back. I've had minor knee issues, so whenever a class includes lunges I now do a curtsy lunge. Seems to help I have a very hilly 5k this morning. Yippee. Should be loads of fun I know I'll feel GREAT when it's over

the 5k wasn't bad at all. It was hilly, but my time this week was 2 1/2 minutes faster than my last 5k I know my glutes will appreciate those hills. I can already feel it

Nice job on the 5k, Peach!
The baby held off so I got to run the half marathon. I am happy with my time of 1:48, but I wish I didn't slack on the training for the past few weeks. Instead of being able to kick it the last mile, I was getting slower and slower

Way to go, Peach. Knocking 2 1/2 minutes off your time is impressive. Weren't you already the fastest person in your age group before you got even faster? Archie, that's a great time for your first half-marathon! Mine was 20 minutes slower than that, and I found the last 3 miles to be a killer.

well, Shandi...this race had some FAST old folks! The winner in my age group was an old friend, so when I saw her name I had to find her. She likes to do mud runs (not my thing) and trail runs. I totally love trail runs, but there aren't many places close to me with good trails. Up near my dad there are some awesome running trails. The high school both of my brothers attended has 6' wide trails with timbers down either side, filled with pine mulch. They use them for cross-country training. Dad and sis walk, I run and double back.
I talked to an older couple this morning doing their first 5k. She was probably early to mid 60s; he was late 60s. They both placed in their age groups! He finished in just over 53 minutes. I'm betting I'll see them again. I know I would have been really fired up to have placed in my first 5k! Heck, I was glad not to be the last person across the finish line ;D

thanks...i'm familiar with most all of those as i did them all in therapy after surgery... i still do the stretching and the bike...for the most part, on lower body workouts, i do leg presses, extensions, curls, ad & abductors, calf and sometimes squats and lunges...the lunges seem to be the one that makes my knee that had surgery hurt...i'll try the method you describe and see if that helps... btw, congrats on the 5k...
