Hey, everyone! There are times when I'm in line at the grocery store or drugstore and I'm behind someone who is also a "couponer" and overhear the great deal they got (final OOP after coupons, discounts) and I get envious.
Most of the time they are buying things that I wouldn't buy, but I'm like..."Dang...that's a good deal." If they look my way, I always say "great job" or something to that effect. While I'm envious, I'm really happy for them for being able to do it.
Does anyone else every have this happen to them? Or, on the flip side, have you had negative reactions when you've been the one getting the great deal?

There are MANY things I so NOT buy at our local chain grcery stores. Compared to the independent & ethnic markets in my area they are WAAAY too $$$. Therefore, I am not usually envious because I pay less than they are.
At the drug stores or dept stores (like Target) I will glance to see if I am 'missing' something but there are SOOO many things from those places that I have at least a years worth in my stockpile that I am unlikely to be envious.

I'm in a small town and I've only ran into another "couponer" a couple times, but never in line. Usually you can spot each other by what is in the cart or by the pile of coupons they carry through the store. On occasion someone will stop and say "did you notice you can stack this coupon with this one?" Or, if someone sees something in your cart they'll rip out a coupon from the flier if it looks like you don't have one and they aren't using it. While I'm in line I have gotten a few "wow"s after my total comes up to some rediculously low amount for a full cart of groceries. If I have a ton of coupons that aren't just quick-scans I'll let the person behind me go ahead if they only have a couple items, but most the time they tell me to just go ahead. Most of the time if you warn them and have your coupons ready they don't get negative about it. I had a couple cashiers at Walgreens ask for advice about coupons after they see me walk away with great stuff for a few cents OOP (best so far was $25 worth of stuff for 7 cents OOP and $10-$20 in register rewards). Now that I've taught them I do have competition in that store But with me being near no-spend I don't go in as often.

I have only once run into another couponer, and I could only tell because we were in CVS on a Sunday and she had all the free after ECB item's in her basket except one, and she was on her way to get that one. She told me where to find the right size heat wraps, and I offered her one of my huge stash of Covergirl coupons to use on her mascara purchase. That was cool!
I have occasionally gotten a compliment from a cashier, though.

I rarely run into other couponers. I have often given coupons to people in the same aisle as me and who grab something I have extra Qs for.
Yes, once in a while the people behind me get aggravated, but I just turn to them and sincerely apologize. Usually that helps.

I warn people in line behind me that I have a fistful of coupons. Sometimes they go to another lane or just stay and watch my total decrease. Some have commented favorably, especially some of the cashiers. A young cashier at Rite Aid said she has an easy time taking calculus but doesn't see how my sister and I can get our totals so low. I ran into another couponer at a store and gave her frugalsuz's website and she told me about a women and children's shelter where I could donate all my extras. Sometimes I share with the cashiers about the good deals that some of the stores are having.

I've had cashiers be in awe of the savings. So far no one has been upset with me in line, either. Maybe they are, but I'm so engrossed in my transactions, I don't notice. I share too. I like to share. No one needs all of anything.
