At least one Christian seems mad as Hell and not going to take it any more. Case claims defamation over reference to Christian ministry. A process server reports that MSNBC's Rachel Maddow has been served with a lawsuit alleging defamation for her comments about a Christian ministry.
She was served late Monday evening at her condominium in New York's Soho neighborhood. The server provided a photo of Maddow at the time:
The complaint said Maddow "outrageously disparaged Bradlee Dean's physical appearance, his first name and his profession as a heavy metal entertainer and his standing in the community and represented that he and YCR, (You Can Run But You Can't Hide), had advocated the execution of gays." As a result, Dean has had death threats, the lawsuit said.
Not coincidentally, Rachel Maddow is also of a leftist political ideology, who as a committed and also proud lesbian is active in the so called 'gay rights' movement. www.wnd.com/?pageId=332101

Good for Rachel taking a stand and confronting a bigot. And in front of a whole lot of witnesses.

Heh. This should be fun to watch. Anybody can file a lawsuit. The value is in the outcome.

Not coincidentally, Bradley dean is a bigot with an anti gay agenda. In order for the lawsuit to fly, she would have actually needed to defame him. Everything she said was true, and I am quite sure his reputation was already shit. If anything, she gave the turd free publicity.

Surely there are more vulgarisms that could be used. I've seen them. I've even seen some of them used on these boards. Of course they only display the lack of a vocabulary and don't do anything for the discourse, but they MUST make the user feel good.

I'm sure I can come up with more than several multisyllabic expressions for the word "shit", but lets call a spade a spade shall we? And BTW, your notation of my "lack of vocabulary" as you so succinctly put it, only demonstrates your lack of argument.

I can't disagree that fecal matter is fecal matter, no matter how lovingly, how long or how openly it is fondeled.

Perhaps we can also agree that it is most readily detected at its source.

Perhaps we can also agree that it is most readily detected at its source. Actually, it's not. It's most readily detected when one steps in it.

Frankly, I think the defecation debate has gone on long enough; especially, since it can't seem to be kept as playful banter. Therefore, back to the subject of the thread, please.

Good for Rachel taking a stand and confronting a bigot. I don't think she did herself or her cause any favors by lying. If the man's a bigot, state your case. No need to make stuff up.

He is also suing a newspaper.I thought the right was against these silly lawsuits. Bradlee Dean is a wack job. He is suing for taking a statement about muslims being more moral than Christians out of context. That statement was just one if a list of strange spewings from him.-----" Bradlee Dean, a Minnesota metal rocker, announced the lawsuit in a Tuesday press release. His suit stems from an August 2010 segment of Maddow's, in which she quoted a statement he made on his radio show:
"Muslims are calling for the execution of homosexuals in America. They themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible, the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than the American Christians do. Because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination. If America won't enforce the laws, God will raise up a foreign enemy to do just that." Dean charged Maddow with deliberately ignoring a disclaimer that he issued which stressed that he was not calling for gay people to be killed. He said Maddow's airing of his statement caused "serious" harm to him and the ministry he runs.
Actually, Maddow did read the disclaimer--"we have never and will never call for the execution of homosexuals"--just after airing Dean's statement.
Dean also said he is an ally of Michele Bachmann, and accused Maddow and the "left wing media" of using him to harm her presidential prospects. Even though he is filing a multi-million dollar lawsuit, Dean said that "money is not the issue."

"Dean reserves his most incendiary rhetoric for gays, whom he believes are actively working to undermine the Constitution. He's argued that homosexuality is not only immoral, but actually a federal crime. When President Obama nominated Sharon Lubinski, who is openly gay, to be a US Marshal in 2010, Dean argued that Obama had acted illegally because "homosexuality is against the law in the United States." (Although some states have refused to take the laws off the books, the 2003 Supreme Court case Lawrence v. Texas ruled that homosexuality statutes were unconstitutional.)
Last fall Dean raised eyebrows when he suggested that Rep. Keith Ellison (D–Minn.), who is Muslim, was using support for gay marriage as a gateway to the enactment of Islamic Sharia law in the United States. "I would say to the homosexuals: You better keep your eyes peeled," he said. "You are playing the fools. I knew there was a correlation. I knew it, I knew it, I knew it. And the homosexuals are using the Muslims to do it, and the Muslims are using the homosexuals to do it."
On his radio show, he's alleged that gays were responsible for the Holocaust, and that gay men will, on average, molest 117 people "before they're found out." He's also suggested that extremist Muslims who call for the execution of American gays are morally justified. "If America won't enforce the laws, God will raise up a foreign enemy to do just that," Dean explained. "[Homosexuals] play the victim when they are, in fact, the predator." He has since clarified that he does not support executing gays, and that his remarks were intended as a brotherly warning to gays to change their ways."

---"Although he portrays himself as a spirited defender of the Constitution, going so far as to offer a 12-week Constitution study class for $240, his past association with an anti-government group calls that into question. Until 2010, Dean was a member of Oregon-based Embassy of Heaven, a self-described "Christian Patriot" organization which subscribes to Sovereign Citizen ideology—the idea that citizens are themselves sovereign nations and therefore not bound to the laws of the United States."

July 27, 2011 Categories: MSNBC . Maddow sued for defamation MSNBC host Rachel Maddow has been hit with a $50 million defamation lawsuit from a Christian rock musician who also runs a ministry. The suit focuses on a Aug. 9, 2010, segment on Maddow’s show about campaign contributions given to Bradlee Dean and his ministry, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide International. During the segment, Maddow ran a radio clip of Dean’s that referred to homosexuality as an "abomination" and talked about Muslims "calling for the execution" of gays in the United States. . On her show, Maddow then stated that Dean clarified he “didn’t really mean to sanction murder of gay people” and ran a statement from Dean’s website, which reads, “We have never and will never call for the execution of homosexuals.” Dean’s suit claims that Maddow disparaged the spelling of Dean’s first name, his appearance and his standing in the community, as well as gave the impression that the disclaimer Maddow spoke about in the segment was “disingenuous, insincere, false and meaningless.” The suit seeks money for Dean’s “business losses” and for damages to Dean’s reputation. The lawsuit also cites “red meat” reporting from MSNBC about Michele Bachmann as evidence of the network’s agenda. MSNBC put out a statement that called the suit “baseless” and added that the network stands by its reporting. Watch the Maddow segment after the jump. www.politico.com/blogs/onmedia/0711/Maddow_sued_for_defamation.html

Good for Rachel taking a stand and confronting a bigot. Yes, let's support one bigot for standing up against another bigot. I thought people were allowed to have their own thoughts and feelings on things? I guess only if it conforms to liberal left ideology though, huh?

True but aren't most of these law suits settled out of court with some payments that are not always revealed to the public or the media??? Maddow earns @$2,000,000.00 per year with her gig on MSMNC, Books and appearances and this is all part of the job being a so called political pundit or anchor of political TV.....nice gig if you can get it and you can get it if you try.....btw hasn't Maddow also defamed, demeaned and degraded Sarah Palin, Michele Bachman, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and etc and etc afterall that is her job, as she sees it, I guess .....a Liberal Elite Mudslinger par excellence

Truth is an absolute defense to defamation. I find it funny that jkapp calls her a bigot- somebody please explain that one.
Nothing illegal about demeaning or degrading, though. I think the main difference between her and Coulter or Rush other than ideology, is that she isn't an angry asshole that spews hate and fear. Compared to the others she is rather calm. I saw a video of Rush the other day on the air and it looked like he was on the verge of a heart attack the whole time- so pissed off and pretty much yelling at the audience. How can anyone listen to that?
