I like armor-all also but it tends to 'off-gas' and leave a residue on the inside of the windshield.

I was told the motor needed to be replaced so my windshield wiper fluid would squirt. I just need to know if this is something easy enough for the inexperienced to do or should I take it to a mechanic? What kind of car is it

< I was told the motor needed to be replaced so my windshield wiper fluid would squirt. > It shouldn't be that difficult to do yourself. Can you get access to the windshield fluid pump fairly easily? There's a pump? lol sorry I haven't even looked yet. I put the fluid in but it didn't come out. I asked a mechanic and he told me the motor needs replaced... Its a Chevy S10 4x4

Well. my WRX has about 115,000 miles and is going strong. I love that car, can't believe I've had it 6 1/2 years. It's definitely not for everyone, it's somewhat rough riding and it's noisy on the highway but man, is it fun to drive. I'll have to take it down to Seattle Raceway again, that was just a riot driving it around the track.

Here's one for you. My car is leaking oil out the manifold (has been for two years). I'm not replacing the head gasket, since the car already has over 212,000 miles on it. I'm using valvoline max life oil -- I've found in the past that it helps slow the leaks. Are there any oil additives you'd recommend to help?

Im not a believer in rebuilds in a can. If its a gasket failing, especailly oil there isnt much you can do to stop it. Coolant is a different story because it forms a crust at the leak area. But with oil, as you know, nothing will stick to it. Im going to say No, you either have it fixed or you live with it. Its not something that will get any better, and just remember, a 1000.00 repair bill is a lot cheaper than 500.00 a month car payment

If I just let it leak, as long as I'm diligent about making sure the oil level's fine, are there any other major problems that could come from it?

Well if its leaking on the exhaust, and the conditions are right it could cause a fire. I guess you need to keep an eye on it and watch how bad it gets. Oil on the exhaust manifold take a bit to ignite, but if its getting on the convertor thats not good. A convertor can reach temps of 1500 degrees, and oil will ignite at that temp

I found a car wash. Slight cussing over it taking exact change, not taking my bills and having to go buy a code but its clean now ;D

Rick, more questions for my car. I didn't make my calls Friday, had errands I had to finish so I hope to start calling around Monday and Tuesday.
I have five things to deal with and I'm wondering in what order you'd put them in importance to fix.
1) Replace valve cover (oil) It is leaking a lot and burning oil on top of the engine.
2) Replace both front sway bar links.
3) Replace control arm bushings. The dealer said they are torn and this alone they'd charge over $1K!
4) Replace rear coil springs. Dealer says they are broken and I think I do feel it driving. I thought it was something else.
5) Replace power steering pressure hose which I hope to see how bad it is leaking by week end.

Dealer says they are broken and I think I do feel it driving. I thought it was something else.( This will seriouly affect the way the car drives and is a saftey concern) 2) Replace control arm bushings. ( As long as its a small leak)5) Replace both front sway bar links.

Thanks Rick. Of course item#2 is the most expensive and item#5 the least. Need to find a good paying job ASAP.

The control arm bushing can probably be put on the back burner as long as they arent real loose. The next time you have it in the shop have them show you how bad they are, for that matter, have then show you everything

One of the independent shops I called today wants me to come in for a free eval before giving me any quotes. Still have more calls to make and hopefully my dealer's phone system will answer my calls tomorrow morning. One of the independent shops said something about their being 12 control arm bushings and which 2 were the issue? Is this possible? Hope to get clarification from the dealer tomorrow as some of what they wrote down apparently doesn't translate well to an independent shop. Sigh...

I'd have to type it in. The whole thing depresses me so maybe I'll do it tomorrow if I get enough calls and job applications in.
