I hope loss preventions in all stores is being brought up to speed on this type of thing. Punks!!!! Maybe automatic door locks, so they can't get out? Microtrackers that if not removed by cashier are activated at the door? Exploding dye tags that if not removed are activated at the door? This is an awful phenomenon. Maybe special harsher criminal prosecution for this type of crime. Maybe call it terrorist activity. It sure does rely on that.

As far as I'm concerned, if a whole mob of people come into a place of business and steal them blind, that IS terrorism and punishment should be harsh.

If you lock them in, everyone in the store with them becomes a hostage. That could get to be a very, very ugly situation.

When I was working with young criminals in Seattle in the 1980's, they referred to this as a "bum rush". They did it periodically at small convenience stories for snack food. They used to laugh about the neophytes that they would get to go along who were too slow and stupid to not get caught.

Mob of 40 sounds so crude. They prefer "unionized consumers".

Most places have a set of double doors. Lock them between the doors. This is not a new tactic, but the mobs are getting bigger.

You can't lock the people inside due to fire safety laws. Just imagine the lawsuit if someone got trampled to death in a crush at a locked door, especially if they were not part of the mob.

That is a brilliant idea, problem solved, but lets not stop here, lets pass a living wage for Haiti , problem solved, why we can solve the worlds poverty problem just by passing laws, brilliant, poverty eliminated worldwide. Since passing laws works so good, lets just pass a law that says you can't steal, problem solved, stealing eliminated. We may be on to something here, I"m sure there are a lot of other things we can just legislate away or into existence, how about passing a law that cars must get 500mpg, oil problem solved.

Never ceases to amaze me how much attention was paid to that soundbyte with Joe The Plumber, but no attention was paid to Palins actual "share the wealth " legislation she bragged about..........

Anyone surprised at this? When you stop enforcing laws people will start testing them to see which other laws your not going to enforce. Add to that the knowledge that kids have today. They know that nothing "serious" will happen to them if they are caught. That's just the way society is today. We need to either enforce the rules or learn to live with it.
When a country demands nothing for it's citizens, that's exactly what they will get.....nothing from them.

It's worse than not enforcing the law-- stealing IS the law. That's why socialism and redistribution theory fails the moral test because it violates, "Though Shalt Not Steal". Modifies it, really to: Thou shalt not steal unless you really need it and someone else has too much. I posted the article on the metaphysics of modern theft to make this very point.
Sooner or later, there won't be any Sears stores to steal from. When we become like a place like Haiti where as soon as you have a modicum more, or nicer than your neighbor- theives, or the government (usually one in the same) simply take what you've got.
We have a president that has spent his political career villifying the producers, lambasting the achievers, and demonizing the rich. Is it any wonder people think it's now OK to steal?

LOL! Hahaha! I'm really laughing this time. It is a very genuine and heartfelt "LOL."
I saw the title of this thread and thought to myself, "Okay, let's see how many posts into this story will there be a snarky comment from a conservative about Obama or liberals?"
I just wanted to see ...
And there it is ... IN THE VERY FIRST POST!!! OMFG LOL!

www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/112807564.htmlA flash mob did this in WI at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, WI on Christmas Vacation. Mayfair Mall is a upscale Mall with a very diverse clientelle. Very Rich and Inner City customers all shop there. Now, people who are more financially secure would rather shop at a Mall that does not have access via public transportation. I shop this mall frequently on my lunch hour and occasionally bring my kids on the weekend. It is out of my way to go from home but it has all the stores my kids want and some services we like too. I have been there in the evening and asked myself why I was there b/c the youth clientelle made me uncomfortable.

Gosh ... other than Craftsman Tools, what did 40 people find to steal from Sears? ...I'd go for the jewelry section... and then hit the "as seen on TV" section... then maybe drive off in a riding lawnmower...

I guess, if you've got 40 or so people, you could throw a lasso around just about anything and drag it off, molly. ;D
